    How are is it to manage the main sail on the Lagoon 46. With the Lagoon 42 the boom is quite low and easy to manage. Do you have to climb onto the flybridge to raise or lower the main sail?

      @SailingJoy  2 роки тому

      Hi Tim! Great to hear from you. Yes we found out that the owner and inventor of the water maker that we have here at JOY lives in DENIA / Spain and he made some adjustments by installing additional equipments on a friends L46 to make it work and controllable from the inside of the boat. The cost was a little over 1200 euros. We decided not to go that route as I really got used to the functionality directly on the water maker so I decided not to do anything. If you need this person’s contact info send me an email at ed@gosailingjoy.com and I will send it your way. All the best Ed

    Thank you for a very informative video. Can you address the fly bridge in bluewater passage making. It is unclear from this video whether you also went to France to get the L46 and returned across the Atlantic. And possibly have you crossed the Pacific on the L46? There seems to be very little real world documentation of using these fly-bridge cats in open ocean, I have read a few views that they have no place outside of near-shore sailing but not from experienced sailors. It does look like it could be a precarious place to be in big seas and bad weather even with the plastic panels in place. On the other hand the L42 helm looks more secure...but I have no experience with either. Any thoughts and experience from you or others on your channel would be appreciated.

    • @SailingJoy
      @SailingJoy  7 місяців тому +1

      Thank you so much. We had our Lagoon 46 for the past 3 years and have sailed close to 10.000 nautical miles on it. The flybridge is something we love. We have several other videos on the channel that show us sailing in Europe and I invite you to check it out as well so you have a better grasp of our route and sailing. We have redundancy of all electronics inside of JOY so in bad weather we usually sail from inside as it is more comfortable but totally doable and fine from the flybridge. We had both the L42 and the L46 and in our opinion having the flybridge is totally an added bonus and not the other way around. Keep in mind everyone has its own personal preferences. I recommend you test it and see what you like the best and feel more comfortable with. To us the flybridge is what we like sailing as a couple. All the best Ed

    I named my first ocean boat, "Pure Joy" because of my wife's name. As she was a gold digger and I did not have much gold, that marriage ended. Funny how often someone is lost at sea...just kidding! I was happy sailing a 38 foot catamaran except it did not have a generator and AC. That makes a huge difference to sleep at night. • @SailingJoy
      @SailingJoy  2 роки тому

      Hi Bill ! Thanks ! Initially we chose the L42 because Lagoon was the one with the most number of boats and parts around the world making it easier for us in the future. Also I made a study and in my opinion Lagoon held its value better than the Leopard and FP which was a reality for us when we sold our L42 for a profit and decided to buy the L46. Now there are other brands out there which would also be a great option, at the time of the upgrade we just decided to go with Lagoon because we already knew the systems and would make the initial learning curve easier. Great video buddy, 46 looks like it has a much better layout, I meet a couple in Copenhagen 2 weeks ago, and they had just bought a Sunreef 50, and they said one of the major differences from the leopard 50 and the Lagoon 52 was No squeaking sounds on the Sunreef. how does the 46" do with squeaking? It is my dream! Have few questions, when it comes to sea sick, does always bigger the boat better? However, bigger boat will have less performance is that true? Where is the best balance?

    • @SailingJoy
      @SailingJoy  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Richard ! Actually bigger the boat faster it will be while sailing in general. Bigger maybe a little bit more stable but movement will be similar unless we are talking about a much much bigger boat which in that case it helps. In my opnion sea sickness will affect similarly a Cat between 46 to 51 feet. It is definitely a combination of factor that gets me sick ! Angle of the wave, smell of diesel, empty stomach, if I am nervous, not much sleep ! Yes did it all this very last time haha. All good now ! Best Ed

    Hey Ed from your perspective and experience, what do you think is the biggest cat a couple can handle? What do you think is the limit? And I would love to know what would be the ideal size if money was not a factor?

    • @SailingJoy
      @SailingJoy  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Raphael ! Million dollar question 🤩. It is funny to say but I believe the biggest boat a couple can handle varies depending on their experience and budget. We see couples on catamarans all the way to 62 feet sailing on their own or as a family only. One thing to keep in mind is the maintenance you will have additionally that goes with the added volume. In my humble opinion at the end you need to balance it all out and take in consideration Price, Size, time for maintenance and ongoing costs ! If price is not an object I would go for a Sunreef, a more luxuries and customizable boat maker and don’t think I would go much bigger than a 50 feet as this size would be bring all the comfort we need on board without having to spend more time that we already do cleaning and maintaining the boat. I hope I answered your question. Best Ed

    Same question as @Martin Vester's below. WWe are considering either a 45 or a 50 footer for our family of three.
    Sailing-wise, the bigger is not necessarily the better (less manoeuvrability, way more expensive to maintain, less docking possibilities…).
    Also, have you considered Leopard 45? Smaller inside but the front deck seems fantastic even if smaller inside. Cheers !

    • @SailingJoy
      @SailingJoy  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Patrick ! Yes got it right bigger not always necessarily better. We did consider the leopards as we do like the pass thru doors. The main reason why we did not go for it was resell value. We had a terrific experience with Lagoon in the past and wanted to keep moving that path. Leopard are great vessels as well but we are very happy with Lagoons so far. All the best Ed

    Enjoyed the video comparison with your feelings about both. If you were to Upgrade again, a 50’ is another 4’! Then there is the 55’ and so on. Maybe selecting is based on how much more the costs would be?!
    Creaking would be a sign of two items or elements rubbing under tension. The louder they are, the higher the tension. If there is a noticeable change in creaking, it indicates a looser connection that is growing from continuous tension. It never fixes itself, will always get worse. It’s strictly a mechanical issue! Even Fiberglassed Tabbing can crack and start to creak. It’s purely the result of mechanical tension that exceeds joint strength. This is what happened to the 450 and suggested as a design flaw.
    Selecting one for myself is a constant challenge. I guess we always want something bigger, but how big is big enough? Maybe limits are depended on being able to sail it yourself?

    • @SailingJoy
      @SailingJoy  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Marty ! In my opinion selecting the right boat really goes in line with what you are comfortable handling X Price ! Today I feel I am able to handle a 50 foot but honestly the size of the 46 until now is perfect for us so we will not be moving up for at least a year more ! After the end of this season we will reevaluate. Thanks for the message ! Enjoyed your comments and remarks. Best Ed

      It is a matter of preference without a doubt ! All I can tell you is that it does works very well for us. Best Ed

      @@SailingJoy I would feel isolated there up and on long passage you be in the salon and need to go up to adjust the sails. You dont feel so?

      Hi Tim. It is a valid concern but after sailing extensively the 2 models I still prefer the flybridge hands down. I really think it comes down to a preference.

      I understand but remember What would happen the poor little red color if everyone liked only the color green ? Good look finding a boat that is perfect for you. All the best

    Upgrade your Lagoon by not buying another Lagoon.

      Super happy with ours. 3 years traveling around the world and enjoying it ! Now, a Lagoon Catamaran is not for everyone. I recommend you find a brand that suits your wants and needs. Good luck. Ed

    "Upgrade" you gotta be taking the piss, you seen the workmanship on the 45's? If those are built like that I can't see why the other models wouldn't be just as terrible when it come to build quality

      Actually I am not and Yes I have seen it. This is the second Lagoon we owned and we are very happy with it after sailing it over 10.000 nautical miles and crossing the Atlantic Ocean. There was a problem with some L450s bulkheads which does not apply for 42 or 46s. I really wonder if YOU ever entered or sailed a Lagoon 42 or 46. Best of luck with your boat search.

    They both fall apart after a few ocean crosses. These 500-700k catamarans are garbage, the industry needs to change

      Not here. Holding strong after 10.000 nautical miles.
