So much hurt and compassion in one song. The only ones who understand suffering are those who have suffered. If you like this song listen to the son Closer by The Tiny
Like a beautiful lullabye to herself. How can you deny such a peaceful acceptance. I feel like I'm on the edge of the bed looking and listening to her hum.
She was on methadone with she died. Would she be clean? In her day. Cale loved and protected her as much as a enabler can. Listen to Cale talk about her. She blew him away and he's intelligent. She was fluent in 10 languages. But who wants to know a junkie. Get real. But she was a smart cookie. And beautiful. What a great album.
J'ai lu que Nico est dcd par accident de bicyclette alors qu'elle allait chercher de l'héroïne pour elle et son fils Ari qui était venu vivre avec elle a Ibiza. Ari est heroinomane aussi.
I read Songs they dont play on the Radio about her life. When i finished the book and thought for a minute or so about her tragedy the room very suddenly was filled with deep scent, like oriental perfume and it stayed around for an hour. It came from nowhere and was nowhere else. A part of me likes to think of this experience as my personal introduction to the world of the paranormal. Unexplicable and yet perceptible. And the book was amazing. A must read. Rest in peace Nico. You were special.😌
Thanks chap, whoever you are, this has brought tears to my eyes as it always does, along with "I'm Not Sayin'" although The Primitives did a version which could almost have been Christa once she had met the 'Underground.
If you live your life worrying about what people think of you, it is not a life, we are all alone, it's the illusion of being together that causes pain,
Nico had a strong German accent which sometimes makes it hard to figure her lyrics out, but this is one of her easier songs to get right. She didn't publish lyrics on her albums, at least not the earlier ones and she's not with us anymore to ask, so …. my guess is as good as anyone's, but I know her music and believe me even she would not write such weird and meaningless lines as: "Often the ardorless and plain", and "Confuse your hunger capture the fake" which are getting perpetuated here and seem to come from crappy song lyric websites, which are full of mistakes. Even Neko doesn't get it right! Try these instead (and hopefully the song will make more sense): OFFEND the adolescent play Reward your grace Confuse your hunger Capture the FATE
hmmmm....After many listens I'm going with "Offend the adolescent play, reward your grace./Confuse your hunger, capture the fake". Do you really think that for a person who said she dyed her hair because she was tired of being beautiful that "capture the fake" is meaningless? Especially followed by "Banish the faces, reward your grace". Or...is your hunger confused? Or, for that matter, is mine? :D But hey...I couldn't've done it without you....
I tell you what: I'm German and it's even hard sometimes to understand Nico's German lyrics in songs such as "Abschied", "König" or "Mütterlein". So, maybe it's rather about the way she sang than about her accent.
You are wrong. "Often, the ardorless and plain reward your grace" is grammatically sound and makes perfect sense. It means that often, the plain, simple people with little passion compliment ("reward") the subject of the song.
NICO(RIP). lm
GREAT to see someone appreciate this Artist...
Beautiful Nico. May your soul rest in eternal peace ♥

A dark, enigmatic, and tragic figure of beauty.

She died sober, after a bicycle accident.

This track is by Nico…and John Cale. Both artists appear on 1966's THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO.
Thanks George!
does John play the piano on this, or the viola? it's so beautifully arranged
@@shuax They both sound like him
@@adamsouza7140 do you know what I think you're right, I hear a bit of style it takes in the intro
its a beautiful sad song, my favorite nico song.
As a falling star is so fleeting, yet in afterthought it brilliance is acknowledged then
The band Human Drama did two wonderful covers of Nico's songs: This one, 'Afraid' (but called Alone) and Sixty Forty. Worth a listen :)
not afraid, eternal love is waiting.
John Cale seemed like he really loved her, from what I've read about how Lou Reed treated her, just vile!
bela voz Nico. ❤
Magnitude!.

Ela era maravilhosa
I'll always love her. No matter what. It's a challenge. What do people think of you? Grace. Dying can be a choice.

It weird, I'm just a plain ole American and I hear almost all of it loud and clear! In this song anyway.
