Da Phuk? Landed on this after searching for a Ronnie Dio song. Be more careful with that search. _Rainbow in the Dark_... _Rainbow in the Dark_... _Rainbow in the Dark_ "Dancer in the Dark premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and got awarded the Palme d'Or, along with the Best Actress award for Björk". I guess "Palme d'Or" is French for "Utterly Shitty Movie". If this fucked up scene is indicative of the rest of the movie, I'm glad I never heard of it until now. There is just so much wrong here. First, the character of Selma is so hysterical that she needs to be strapped to a carry board. She's screaming and crying, and then for no apparent reason (other than Slema's role is played by Bjork, a better singer than actress) Selma decides to serenade the staff. They show their appreciation by not allowing her to finish the damn song. Rather than showing Selma's reacting to being hanged with screams and tears, it's time for _A Tale of Two Cities_ scenario: “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.” I think that would make the character a lot more sympathetic. Other problems: Nylon rope. No, just no. Nylon is very springy. The noose is draped around her neck. Between bouncy nylon, and the loose noose, a strangle hanging is guaranteed here. If they wanted a strangle hanging, then thin cord, or better yet, stainless steel aviation safety wire. And Selma was working a shitty, low end job, to save enough to pay for treatments to save her son's eyesight. Ever hear of "Medicaid", there aren't any programs to helpo low income children in need? No medical center/hospital that would treat the boy despite the mother's not having the ability to pay? I guess all that disappeared in this fucked up alternative unibverse.

My teacher played this movie during class and I was scared of what was going to happen and when I saw Selma's body being hung I begun to cry and he felt guilty that he gave me a very tight hug and I cried for the rest of the hour

I was unable to listen any of Björk's albums for the next three months after I watched this film. Listening her voice would immediately replay this scene in my head. Then for the next 6 months that followed, I would listen to her full discography over and over again.
