I actually did that job in 1970.... It was fun and brutal at the same time. 10 pin was alot more dangerous. Some guys could really chuck a ball and the pins would fly. Sometimes at your head. I saw another pinboy get knocked out. Sometimes people would whip a ball down and you were still setting up the pins from the last bowler... Getting hit in the shin by a 10 pin ball was painful.

I did this job 31 years ago. Excellent job for a kid (I was 12 at the time). I can remember one night I was working with a friend both of us were setting pins in lanes beside each other when for some strange cosmic reason both people bowled early. We both dived the wall at the same time knocking each other back into our pits. We got showered with pins.

I can see why they had rubber bands added to the pins. Can't imagine the injuries those pinboys would have received back in the day from those exploding duckpins.

I did this when I was a kids. It was 10 pin and did two lanes at a time, some couldn’t do it. Believe it was a 20 lane alley. Did 5 pin a couple of times till I got whacked in The back of the head. I liked putting a backspin when I was returning the ball it would come back. Good times.

I loved setting pins as a teenager. Fringe benefit: When
there were no customers, the boss let me bowl for free. Got in a ton of practice and it paid off in the Shore Conference (NJ) where I was leadoff for the Red Bank H.S. varsity team.

We had rubber ducks at the Fair Haven (NJ) bowling alleys in addition to ten pins. I brought a set of refurbished candle pins down from Cape Cod and, since we already had the balls, we actually had three of the five types of bowling in North America.

Brings back memories of my youth . Setting pins to earn pocket money. I'm from Canada so variety of types . 5 pin, 10 pin, Candles and Ducks. All manual with spikes pushed up by foot pedal to place pins. Flying pins always a hazard but great source of material for survival stories.

simon hue it’s the Canadian form of duckpin bowling which is most commonly known as rubberband duckpin. Basically they take duckpins and add a five pin bowling style rubber ring to the pins for increased performance.
