So just to field some more questions: 1) The egg cost $32 CDN. 2)Ostriches are not endangered, and this came from an ostrich farm in Ste Eustache where they breed ostriches for protein rich, low-fat meat. nidotruche.com 3) From what I was explained, they don't actually "cultivate" ostrich eggs. But they do sell the ostrich eggs that don't get fertilized (as opposed to wasting them). They are able to tell which ones have been successfully fertilized by x-raying them. 4) It tasted like a regular omelette, only creamier (as though someone had added cream to a regular omelette). 5) I know it would have been better to make a hole on both ends, but I wanted to (and did) keep the egg as intact as possible to keep as a mantle piece. Even the empty shell is impressive. 6) Ostriches weigh up to 450 pounds, and can kill a lion with two kicks. In fact, in a fight between a lion and an ostrich, from what they told us, it's a 50-50 battle. 7) People freaking out about the screw-driver. C'mon, what's the big deal? It's like a one-pronged fork. lol. And I did cook the egg after. Besides, our hands are so much dirtier than that screw-driver. 8) There was no shell in the omelette :) 9) Like, share, and subscribe!

I hope everyone understands that an egg is not a "baby ostrich". It's unfertilized - it would never have become an ostrich. It's basically sperm or a bird "period". Which actually sounds kind of gross now that I explain it this way. If it's some site like Forbes that prevents you from entering unless you take adblock off... well there is a way around it (like all things tech) Use Tampermonkey and install Anti-Adblock Killer. Scripts are amazing

You’re missing out. I made scrambled eggs with an ostrich egg. It was so naturally creamy, I didn’t need to add milk or butter to make it fluffy. It cooked with natural fluffiness and it had a natural buttery taste to it-and way more flavor than a chicken egg. It also has 5x more protein and half the cholesterol of chicken egg. Ostrich meat is also super tender and has 3x more protein than cow meat and only a fraction of the cholesterol Same thing with Emu eggs
It's interesting - been reading the comments below. There was something weird about eating this. I think it's more social norms / familiarity with "bizarre" foods. Also, it is just so big compared to the eggs we're used to - kind of felt like eating a dinosaur. The taste itself was pretty much identical to a regular egg, but a little richer and creamier. It basically tasted like an omelette made with added cream. And it lasted weeks! (we froze what we did not eat right away). Enjoy, like, share, and subscribe! :)
Seen a lot of the comments… I had a glitch in my lens that caused that purple smudge, which drove me as crazy as the rest of you! :-) Have since had the lens on my iPhone replaced, but that purple smudge angered me as well for the longest time. Lol
From the comments, it's mostly about your children. Did you informed them about the egg before the video? (Because you should always do that: Not everyone likes to hear children talking about everything and ruining the experience of the video.)

About that purple smudge on the legs: yeah, it drove me absolutely BONKERS as well. Except it cost 200$ to fix, so I had to wait much longer than I wanted before replacing the lens. Had I known how viral this video would go, I totally would have fixed it earlier. Or at the very least tried to touch it out. About that purple smudge on the legs: yeah, it drove me absolutely BONKERS as well. Except it cost 200$ to fix, so I had to wait much longer than I wanted before replacing the lens. Had I known how viral this video would go, I totally would have fixed it earlier. Or at the very least tried to touch it out.
