Frank Sinatra records the song, "It Was A Very Good Year," in the studio with composer and arranger, Gordon Jenkins. It Was A Very Good Year provides a fascinating look at Sinatra’s life and career as Sinatra’s genius and emotion is showcased in a photo montage, over the live recording.

"It Was a Very Good Year" is a song composed by Ervin Drake in 1961 and originally recorded by Bob Shane with the Kingston Trio. It was made famous by Frank Sinatra's version in D minor, which won the Grammy Award for Best Male Vocal Performance in 1966 and became Sinatra's first number one Adult Contemporary single…The phrase "It was a very good year" is often applied to wine, as the vintages differ in quality. Here, Sinatra sings about the years he remembers fondly in his romantic life and the girls that were part of it. As he's now older, he looks back fondly on these memories, bringing up the wine analogy as the memories have aged well with time.
FRANK SINATRA (1915 - 1998) was an American singer, actor, and producer who was one of the most popular and influential musical artists of the 20th century. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 150 million records worldwide.

“I had the pleasure of remixing the classic 1965 album "September Of My Years" 20 years ago. Got paid and everything. Never issued but that's show biz. What always killed me about Ervin Drake's song "It Was A Very Good Year" on the album was the fact that they did one rundown (while taping it, always marked on the tape box as "playback") and then after a few false starts, Frank, Gordon Jenkins, and the orch. nailed it in one complete take. No second try, no intercuts, edits, nothing. And even more blowmind, CBS News cameras were there filming the entire thing. I think Sinatra thrived on that kind of stress in the studio. It relaxed him! Anyway, if you've never seen this, take a look. A hit song at the moment of creation. And you get to see the big room at United/Western and Gordie conducting.” -Steve Hoffman
“The speaker recalls his life in terms of his loves, at the ages of 17, 21, and 35. Now (at 50, in Sinatra’s case), he remembers it all as sweet and clear vintage wine…What’s going on in Frank’s mind seems very, very real to me, thoroughly convincing. He’s thinking about the passage of his life. Every one of us thinks about that in September. Every one of us is mortal, every one of us has one year less left in his life. That’s pretty harrowing.”

From the same album September of My Years is another song with the same nostalgia & experienced wisdom. It is When The Wind was Green. I loved that album at 20 years & still do today. Thanks for putting the video with this song. This & he are my memories from 1954 on. I cry over those lost years.

No one could express the melody and lyric like Sinatra ever. I don't know how I missed notification on this...I just checked out the channel. Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
