  • Darren and Steve go to epic lengths in trying to figure the new episode of "The Roth Show" and what David Lee Roth is talking about (e.g. Sammy being abducted and probed by aliens, $92,000 spent on dispensary weed, Costco (Kirkland?) weed, and some truly ugly stories about Alex and Eddie Van Halen. Whew...where do we go from here?
    Gues what? Darren's DLR BOOK: HOW DAVID LEE ROTH CHANGED THE WORLD is out now! Available everywhere you buy books including Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble!

    I mean Joe is kinda sneaky. He says Sammy is doing this fake tribute for right reasons and he wasn’t sure about Dave. I mean come on now….we ALL know Sammy is doing this for himself and not the right reasons. Give me a break Joe

      @@walterevans2118 Thanks to you both for listening. While we can all have our own opinions about the "Best Of All Worlds" tour, the fact is that the "regular" VH camp couldn't get its stuff together for a proper tribute to happen (stuff did happen behind the scenes that never leaked -- I can't be the whistleblower, but let's just say business as usual).
      Therefore, regardless of where you stand with Van Hagar and/or Sammy's business habits, at least we're getting a Van Halen tribute in amphitheaters AND a Van Halen-related tour featuring Michael Anthony. Yeah? We're all friends again?

    Darren and Steve, After the whole concert invite fiasco a few weeks ago, I really expected DLR to respond back to Sam in some way... but maybe more a form of the Gene Simmons greeting card Dave sent via Twitter/Facebook a while back. To me Sam's public response to Dave was kind of harsh. I just didn't expect a dedicated podcast on the subject. But Wow!

      IDK, maybe a territorial frontman thing compounded with warehouse club quantities of weed. When the new guy tells the founder he’s not welcome to the larger party? I do wish it ended with Sam, as they’ve both taken cheap shots at one another since the failed Sam/Dave thing. Everything on the Roth Show after that was way disturbing. I agree with you guys, in that he’s obviously burnt all bridges with the Van Halen’s at the least. Love the podcast. Cheers!@@paltrowitz

      @@paltrowitz Rabid Lee Froth is so high on Cannabliss that he probably thinks the MILKMAN is his MANAGER . Is he so high on it that he still jumps out of windows to bet people 'HE CAN FLY' ? He even tried to get Lloyds of London to insure his DINKY DOO because he was afraid with over road use it was going to FALL OFF. He brags that he regularly smokes his own body weight in cannabis . He's a CRACKED POT. In fact he's proverbial 'Michael Bentine's POTTY time'. Its probably only the wacky world of Rock n Roll that keeps him from winding up in a 'mental institution'.

      Joe's music has never been favorite, but I dig the work ethic, the long-term success, the DIY ethic of his career (rather than chasing hits), being original... He was nice when we did our interview. I only hear pleasant and positive things about him. To me, that's very important.

      @@paltrowitz The REAL reason why Valerie left Ed was because Ed was taking alcohol and other substances to drown his fears about that damn tongue cancer after the diagnosis in 2000. It was throwing his creative equilibrium off hanging over his head like a sword of Damocles and substance abuse overload was Ed’s only way of dealing with it…This created a horrible domestic environment and WOLF as a CHILD was caught in the middle of it caught in the crossfire and it was doing him psychological damage. Valerie HAD to put her son first….and get him out of that war zone…Later Val and Ed FORGAVE each other. Currently Roth is trying to stir things up with historical omissions and rewrites to shine the light on himself.

    I love Roth. But it seems that every time he speaks over the last 20 or so year, I respect him less and less. DLR, don't comment on someone else's marriage. That's a classless move. In a pathetic way, I think DLR is telling the EVH wedding/divorce story to let us all know that he was once buddies with the great EVH. Like a like an adult who still talks about being friends with a the most popular kid in high school, 40 years ago. I think it makes DLR feel better about himself by basically saying "Look at me everybody! EVH shared his feelings about his wife with me! I know about his imperfections! I was his friend!" I think it's pathetic. It's like something Michael Scott couldn't help himself from doing on The Office, but that was funny.

    • @paltrowitz
      @paltrowitz  6 місяців тому

      Totally with you, Craig. I personally never envisioned DLR and EVH socializing. Instead, I envisioned that they spent time together like bandmates and business partners often do -- e.g. Gene and Paul from KISS -- by default, then once they're apart, they share their gripes with everyone. When not dealing with demons, Eddie seems like a kind soul (e.g. the Jason Becker video from the mid-1990s, giving Bumblebee to Dimebag Darrell's family... countless stories), and that's how I want to think of him, personally. THANKS FOR LISTENING.
