Thank you for answering. I was curious because it seems as though hand cranks are predominate in the UK, but treadles are here in the US. I'm just getting started in treadling, some how I've already acquired 2 in the last 6 months. (Singer 66-1 and 15 both 1921). I'm not sure what thrills me more ... the hunt, the acquisition, restoration to working order (not perfection) or using these beautiful engineering works of art. I think it's all of the above. Be well, Laura
Lovely - imagine a hand made sewing machine at this level of artisanship and engineering. Brilliant form and function - and as an artist - I love the hand painting. I'm very curious about the paint used and also curious about how decals were made originally - and how to renew them / repaint them. Warm regards Jennie
Hi Laura, yes the machine was available as a treadle but I have never seen one. They are as rare as hen's teeth. Actually my teeth are getting rare now as well... Alex
Sublime. I agree with the article you mentioned. It looks like a dress maker’s dream!
Amazing, Genius for its day and gorgeous. Thank you Alex for sharing

Hi, Yes it is amazing. People don't see many early Victorian sewing machines but there are some beauties out there. Alex
And you have ALOT of them :-) thanks for all you do Alex A true Ambassador of these wonderful treasures, and all vintage machines
Built like a Swiss watch. Way ahead of it's time....
Well keep searching. They do turn up now and again. I have managed to get two in the last 20 years. Alex
We just received one as a donation. Its an incredibly futuristic machine when I compare it to many others of the same era.

Oh my goodness, what a treasure. Alex was it also available as a treadle or only as a hand crank? Thank you so much for sharing these wonders with us.
I would have liked to see the backside as well! Just gorgeous thank you.

4 minutes of you and 56 seconds of the machine... Fail!
