Actually, if the attic is properly insulated you won't need AC in Germany in a traditional wattle and daub masonry with wooden frames. The material is cool in summer and warm in winter. Much better than any other houses. I live in such myself for almost 25 years, wouldn't want to change. Ours is from the 1700s.

Nick, Spiders are good. You can't get rid of them, these old houses everywhere have little cracks and holes in the wooden beams, where they can hide from You. On the other side: Where there are spiders, there is no mold. Spiders don't like that. And mold is worse than some spiders. Also they eat the flies.

Now, that is old even for German standards! Usually when Americans are astonished about how old every building here is, they are baffled by 100 year old buildings - the one I live in is about 94 years. A lot of our younger buildings are about 70 years old - built in the late 40s, early 50s, after the war rubble got slowly moved away. We still divide our houses into Oldbuilts - Altbauten - like the ones you and I are living in, pre WW II - postwarbuilts - Nachkriegsbauten. And impossible to pay: Newbuilts.

In the "good old days" with no fire fighters, open light from oil-lamps or candles, open fire to cook on and heat the rooms fires were frequent and reduced entire towns to ashes in no time. Then came the menace from wars like the 30-years-war in which the usual way of "finance" the armies was to tell town-people that they either gave what they had "on their own will" or see their town set afire ( "Brandschatzen" ;Brand=fire, Schatz=treasure, wealth) .

Isn't it amazing to know that many, many people lived in there in the last 500 years. SO many stories and so full of history. Don't you dream of a time travel to the first people who lived there? moved in when it was new? How did the town looked like? Who where these people 500 years ago? Did someone who lived there decided to go to "the new world" back then? I mean not 500 years ago, because the US did not exist then, but later?

      The little village is called
Sülm and it has 470 inhabitants. The nearby city is called Bitburg ( a little over 14.000 inhabitants). Bitburger is the name of the beer 🍺 brand that is brewed in Bitburg. The brewery sponsored a lot of soccer games of the German national team and is therefore well-known in Germany. Bitburger could also be the description for a person that is from Bitburg. It is important to be a little precieze because Sulm is the name of a river in a totally different area of Germany, near Heilbronn plus there is a river and a town with the name Sulm in southern Austria. 😊

And there is a very small river in the area that is called Salm (the German word for Salmon). You triggered my attention with your story about Bitburg because I grew up in the area. I absolutely understand that you would like to live there. It is a really beautiful area especially if you do not want the noise and stress that comes with big cities. 😃

Nice place! But I am sorry to disappoint you on those stairs. If you actually have seen wooden stairs that are a few hundred years old you would know they would be incredibly worn every place where one places ones foot. The wear would be deep grooves in the wood that would look somewhat polished.
Judging from the look of those stairs - I'd say max 30 years.

Of course the house has ghosts. Just imagine how many people had called it a home in 500 years of history. You don't need to be even mildly superstitious to realize, that they left their "footprints" and marks there. Maybe their soul is not trapped there, but a part of their heart and life went into this house. And now you are part of the history of that house.

The wardrobe in your bedroom looked very military-like. Your view is absolutly breathtaking, thank you for sharing it! (though I hope no one takes advantage that you showed this because it´s easy to see were you live now and some fans just don´t get the meaning of personal space)

Thanks for showing us. Nice architecture. Imagine: The ceiling can carry a full tube of around 400 kg in a squarmeter. That is not much less a modern house does! Btw: Where are the guns that come out of the box that now has the TV on it? 😏Nice idea to put wheels under the weapon box.

If I could (which I can’t) afford it I would switch all my doors and windows out to the German style ones. Thank you for sharing. I love Germany because it has my daughter! Hahah

I‘am from Schwäbisch Hall myself, it is a really pretty town.
Also a Tipp for u, if u didn‘t know already. Vellberg has a 24/7 Store where u can get food and drinks like in a normal grocerie store.
Watched the video where u talked about stores not being open on Sundays, so if u need something on any Sunday and u got a Car u could check it out. It‘s a "Setzer" in Vellberg near by an Edeka.
    Have a good one

So charming and historical! Have you ever visited Mannheim? So many sites to see there and hosts the confluence of the Rhine & Neckar Rivers. Our military family lived there many years ago, two tours totaling five years. We also enjoyed Heidelberg, The Black Forest and visited many castles during our time there. Enjoy revisiting Germany through your videos!🙌

I also once lived in such an old house in Hesse. It was under monument protection and thus not so much could be changed. We always called it my "witch's cottage". There were three floors and on each floor there was practically only one room. Downstairs was the kitchen, the bathroom and a small terrace with a small garden. The second floor was the bedroom. There was practically no door, but only a small hallway that led further up under the roof, where the living room was. It had charm, but the stairs were very narrow and old.

Fantastic man cave, best of both worlds Cyber ghost and medieval ghosts. Don't you dare to suck in your spiders with your Hoover long pipe, they might be older tenants to this impressive flat. Once you moved all your stuff up, stepper exercise for free. Forget your High value Background, you replaced it by the best High value architecture - priceless, you can't buy history. Bedroom downstairs, very well designed, yeah still no AC. Curious though how much the rent is ;-)

Keep a saucer under the pot if you don't already. Don't over water.😅 It looks like you are doing a good job with them. Soo Cool you have a ghost in your apartment! What have you named the ghost?😊

I wonder if the attic was build around the bath tub and couch, or if they opened the roof to put them in.
But it is a really nice place....for one or two people. It has character, i love the wooden doors, the wood at the ceiling, the mixture of very old and modern at the same time (i lived in a similar one for a short period of time in my "single beeing years" too). It looks very cozy but tight at the same time. Very good for a start, but nothing for longer periods of time.
Therefore i am glad to live in a more spacey "doublehousehalf" (only germans can create this kind of words 😅) with a little garden now.
