Trooping The Colour 2015 Queens Official Birthday Parade Welsh Guards

Live from Horse Guards Parade in London, Huw Edwards introduces this world-renowned military parade where the Colour of 1st Battalion Welsh Guards is trooped to mark Her Majesty the Queen's official birthday. Celebrations include the famous balcony appearance and flypast at Buckingham Palace.

There's something special about being a Guardsman, regardless of regiment. My father was with the Canadian Guards (Sister Regiment to the Coldstream Guards) from 1951 - to 1968 when the Canadian Government disbanded the regiment. I honestly believe it was the saddest day in his life when the Guards became no more. I joined the Governor General's Footguards in 1979 and then the Ceremonial Guard in Ottawa and our duties were to perform the Changing of the Guard ceremonies, on Parliament Hill in Ottawa with both the GGFG and the Canadian Grenadier Guards. We were also there for other Royal duties and I was on parade when the Queen came to Ottawa to sign the Canadian Constitution. We had our own much smaller version of the Trooping of the Colour for the Queen, only 200 Guardsmen on parade as well as an 80 piece Guards band, still though the weeks of training leading up to that event was something I'll always remember and was so very proud to wear the scarlets and bearskin. Up the Guards. ALL. I don't care what anybody says, if you are a Guardsman regardless of regiment you are the best.
