I appreciated your assessment of local fuel prices. Some people may not realize that much of the oil produced is sold on long term contracts. The oil prices that we usually see quoted in the news are "spot market prices." Oil that is sold on the spot market for immediate delivery is often sold at much higher prices than oil sold under long term contract. I think you are probably correct in expecting your fuel costs to increase after the current contracts expire. Thanks for the video Alex!
Are there adequate days where solar (PV) can make a dent in the production of electricity in Greenland? I didn’t realize there were that many sunny days where this would be possible. Glad you have a robust hydro source for electrical generation. Maybe it’s time to underground the transmission lines if not too costly!

No critical comments on the solar PV installation! I could be the first and make up something to say! Hah hah. In reality, great job! My own home is solar PV powered and it works very well, currently exporting a surplus of 1.5 MWH per year to the local utility grid. This is by design as we both oversized, and found more energy efficiency options - this excess will provide us with more than enough charging power for a future EV, for all local driving. Solar & wind powers the way to go. I run the housetruck with solar & supplement with generator when not drawing much power. How do the winter months effect the supply of solar power? Do you have a way around the serious shortage of daylight in winter months, with regard to solar?
DO NOT GET NUCLEAR POWER STATIONS!! I speak from direct experience. I am now a retired South African Electrical senior technician. But for 8 years I helped directly in building Koeberg Power Station, 40 km North of Cape Town, South Africa. It has 2 Nuclear Reactors each producing 940 MW of power. We used British, Canadian and American engineers as consultants. The main problem is what to do with the Nuclear waste??? Each year some of the fuel rods are exchanged for fresh ones. The used ones have to be stored underwater for years, because of high radioactivity. But that's only the beginning of the problems. The used rods generate a lot of heat and have to be cooled, or Else!! Ask the Japanese at Fukushima about the problems that caused them, when their standby generators failed during their tsunami. They had to fly in seawater buckets with helicopters, to cool those spent fuel rods. The helicopter pilots got serious radiation exposure. I repeat don't get Nuclear Power stations!!
Thank you so much for providing us with some information on local fuel prices. I hardly imagined that Greenland could have a rather good solar and wind power system, besides hydro power energy. What about geothermal energy? Here in Italy we could have the best renewable energy system in the world!! Instead we are dependent on gas and also, for a small part, from French nuclear power plants and the prices are skyrocketing. Fortunately, something is moving in this direction. We hope, and perhaps this crisis will give us a hand to change. Great video, as usual. Thank you
Geothermal is not really used that much up here, only one testing facility as Im aware of.. Yes, its crazy when I read about Italy's dependence on gas, as you definitely have other options😄
Very interesting insights. Yes, the dependencies on fossil fuels are immense, worldwide and of course in Greenland.. This terrible war in Ukraineis causing this tsunami annd makes us aware of how fragile this system is. It will ignite innovations in every field concerning energy. Hopefully our economies have enough tine to shift. And hopefully peace, as soon as possible.
Nuclear is not the choice to you, i think. If we look how much did Finlands latest site cost. It was calculated at 3.2 billion euro but it end up costing close to 9 billion eur. With that money you can build 5-7 world's tallest buildings, Burj khalifas. :D

@@AlexAmasaOlsen good point. The simplest way to store hydropower energy is usually to build dams. It is difficult for me to imagine all the obstacles to building dams and reservoirs in the arctic. It seems that designing reservoirs and pipes to handle the forces created by so much freezing water could be a complex challenge.
As a Kiwi i think its great your nation also stays away from Nuclear energy. I know everyone says its say but its not only the risk but the waste it produces, sticking ti green sources of energy is better for the long term. while build a reliance on something we will just want to move away from again anyways
