- This step by step glitter pen tutorial will show you how I glitter my inkjoy Gel Pens without epoxy. I use CrystaLac Brite Tone to glitter and seal the pens! This tutorial will show you exactly how easy this process is!
This pen does have a rubbery coating on it. Since no paint is designed to adhere to rubber, these may not last very long. Keep that in mind before you decide to sell!

Can you just use brute tone to put the glitter on or do you recommend getting the glitter glue?
After adding decal and then brite tone .... how do you know your done? Will you not really feel the decal anymore?

Instead of using brite tone, can you use expoxy resin to give the pen that extra shine?

My spray paint always adheres to the rubber part with no issues. I love the way your pens look. Super cute! That pink you used first is gorgeous. Do you mind sharing where it’s from?

The problem is that paint (spray or otherwise) is definitely not made to adhere to rubber so there may be some consequences there. People should just know that before they start selling that they're essentially gambling with the longevity! The pink is Rose Gold from Sass & Crafts!
Can I use acrylic paint instead of universal white? I don't have the budget for that right now.

400 isn't really enough to prep and since these are rubber, you really want to get them good and sanded!

This is so awesome and helpful!!! Do you sell these? How do the hold up? I love this bc I don’t have to messed with epoxy or anything like that. Edit: can I use mod podge instead of brite glue or can I do both? But use mod podge as a final base covering?
I do sell them and use them myself! they hold up great. I honestly wouldn't use mod podge - just not a great adhesive

I didn’t recall and couldn’t catch if or when you said how long you let the pink spray painted pens dry Before you started applying glitter to them. How long should they dry after they’re spray painted?
48 hours after spray paint before any crystalac products!
Can you use anything else besides britetone? Like maybe uv resin or something
I don't use UV resin because it's toxic and gets super yellow but you could if you want

So do you put the brite tone on then wait four hours then do another coat? So a total of 12 hours for just the first 4 coats? Then sand then start again with coats of brite tone?
each coat of brite tone needs to dry 4 hours before reapplying another coat

It takes me about a week to make a pen. Hands on time about 10 minutes total
Can you use a hair dryer to make the coats dry faster? Or is that something to avoid? I love the video! 😊
No heat, just have to wait the dry time!

can you use polyacrylic instead of brite tone?
I don't recommend polyacrylic because it's super low quality and will yellow over time!
Is it necessary to remove the clip? or can we leave the clip on and glitter it as well?
You run the risk of it getting stuck
For the Brite Tone, it's safe to apply with my fingers? Just wash them after? Wasn't sure if I needed to wear gloves or apply with a paint brush. I've seen both ways, with bare hand and with tool. Just wanted to make sure it was safe to touch skin. Thanks! Great video!
It is safe to use your bare fingers! You can use a brush though if you prefer :)

Hey! I've got some BT and the pens in. What other option would I have for sealing the glitter if I don't have glitter glue? I'm switching from epoxy and haven't used BT yet. Ty for the tutorial!
I'm guessing the samw way you would normally seal your glitter. Mod podge or a spray sealer. I know with the spray you'll have to wait 24 hours for it to gas off.

You can use E6000 Pump spray! Or you can just skip the sealing and go to BT. but I think using the E6000 helps cut down on the number of layers you need total. If you use clear spray paint or whatever clear spray sealer you have to let it dry 48 hours. but you can use that too!

how many times on average do you think a person has to apply the BT coats and sand to get a smooth finish
With a basic fine glitter that is sealed and flattened with glitter glue i am usually smooth at about 6 - 8. Then add decal and a few more coats! It really depends on the style, skill level, and type of glitter.

any pen will do! I would use something that can be refilled though...i wouldn't want to waste my time on something i can't find a refill for!
What exactly is the base coat? And what did you use for the pigments?

Depends on your personal schedule and ability to work on your stuff. Takes me about 7 days

What is bright tone

I’m just curious, and I apologize if this has already been asked...but what is the purpose of painting the pen 1st if ultimately the only thing visible is the glitter? Like I just don’t understand that step when the paint isn’t visable.
Okay there are a few things. 1) You get better coverage if your base coat matches your glitter. 2) Nothing is designed to stick to rubber - so these are already sort of a risk to make. I wanted to set myself up for the best outcome possible so I used a primer with stronger bonding agents in hopes they last longer :)
The glitter can allow the base to show through some.
I think I prefer the brite tone pens bc the epoxy ones tend to be so thick

How did you get the heart in the font? I looked in character map for this font and I cannot figure it out.

Yes. Just a basic particle mask.

Can I use mod podge?
You can use mod podge to apply your glitter! If you use mod podge on top , the glitter will lose some shine.

Not on a pen but i will be doing one today! I can keep you posted...the process would be the exact same. You'll just want to make sure your chunky glitter is laying flat!

Can I ask why such a long drying time between layers, Thin layers of BT should be dry in under 30 min.
Brite tone dries from the top down, so while it may be dry to the touch in an hour, it is not completely dry for 4 hours.
I take the clip off by just twisting it off. Didn’t need any tools. Just so everyone knows ;)

Depends on the epoxy you use. I use crystalac products so there is no mixing
