- This Vw Single Cab truck has been sitting for years. My friend and I recently rescued this forgotten Bus. Let's see if we can get this old truck to run again. Will it run or catch fire? It's exhaust is packed full of mice, fire extinguisher was needed!

We had one of these that my high school maintenance guys fixed up and used in the mid-80’s. They did a great job and it was really cool.
They later ones are actually more rare than the early ones due to the chicken tax
This brings back memories, around 1960 my friend and I had several camping expeditions in a 1959 pickup with the conestoga canvas top.
The SLOWEST VW? @ 26:18? No, the slowest was a 1980 Dasher fastback deisel. no turbo. STILL FUN, though!!!!!

When the engine started with burning mouse crap spewing out the exhaust - GLORIOUS! Good move to put the bus outside for the night.
I knew it would run but I didn't factor in the roasted acorns! Very wise to stay with it Jason, you would have been shocked to find the shop and cars burned to the ground as would we of course! I'm always careful with running an old VW too long after is has sat with obvious sign of rodents. But I never thought it might catch fire, only that the cooling system was plugged up. Wow, that was a surprise, but maybe it shouldn't be. I bet that exhaust is packed full of tinder.

I think the mouse nest was all within the fan shrouding. Probably got pushed into the heat exchangers and then the exhaust when you started it. I would have pulled the fan shroud flexible tubes off to see if you could squirt some fire extinguisher into the fan shroud a bit. It make a spectacular acorn shooting machine gun for sure !.

If the case isn't too worn, you can raise up the Distributor drive gear, rotate it, and drop it back down in the correct position.

The good thing is that themotor in that's ingredients cab is the same as the motor in the bus, camper, and the31& 33 window bus unless it has certain upgrades it is the same.

Maybe get yourself one of those white fire extinguishers for the shop...they don't damage engines/electronics like the fire suppressants in the standard red extinguishers do

My dad had one very similar in the early 80s sky blue think it ran at 25 miles to the gallon. Was an embarrassing heap of shit at the time.
