their bassist at the time, Anthony Braun Perry is also absolutely fantastic. Growlers have always had great bass players before and since but i think Anthony is a big reason they had such a golden age in 2012-13. Even in these garage recordings with a six man band that bass still pops.
I remember first hearing the growlers when I was 15. For the longest time this was my favorite song. Coming from Orange county and living 30min away from Newport or Huntington beach, a stoner and experimenting heavily with acid at the time. This song spoke to me on so many levels. Idk man the growlers captured something magical man. The orange county and l.a music was flourishing so much with that psych/garage/surf work movement that was going on from 2012-2017. It was like the 60's man. All the acid and free shows going othe time. I'd love to talk about with anyone in the replies:)
Also found the growlers when I was 15ish, just way too late unfortunately. Super jealous that I missed that new golden age of the surf, psych and garage scene in LA, but at least I have the songs as relics to covet.
I felt you man it was dope on the rope that started me off when I was 16. I lived in wildwood right on the coast of jersey and this song really spoke to me it made me buy the exact guitar Matt Taylor is using a 2016 Gibson Les Paul studio and it made me wanna play guitar more this era for the growlers really got me through hard times and I love them for it. Los Growlers for life!!!! Beware of old rat face!
The guitarist, however, is putting a slight, decent effort into eye-fucking the female viewers with his puppy eyes, but still falls short to Brooks' charisma.
I have no words for this comment just🖤 Yes I miss this sound too. I was definitely going through dark times as well so it made it that much better. I am happy their doing well and still enjoy their newer stuff, but this era took the cake for me and still does. This is the music you feel to the core
This lineup of The Growlers had a certain, almost indescribeable wholeness and magic to their sound that was lost when Scott and Stonio left. I've seen them live since then and while they're great, it's obvious something is missing
Your right his voice is gonna sound even more better 420 fuck all haters and copy cats to there original sound that they create all day I got ya back Los growlers 😜
KarlayS I’m a dude, straight dude, and I totally feel you. First off, complete handsome dude, and totally my favorite type of guitarist. Doesn’t noodle around show boating and whatever BS. But makes every note count. Which in my heart felt opinion truly makes a good guitarist. Idc what kind of lightning speed someone can play at. You gotta make that amp speak for your soul, which is a hard thing to find nowadays. Anyone hating on the growlers new stuff just needs to realize bands grow and tune into different sounds, so why not just grow with the band?
mad love for los growlers, seeing them live last month was like a fuCKING dream come true, I don't think my heart will ever fully recover from that night💛
this is the first Growlers song I heard ... I saw thee thumbnail and I was like ..."that's interesting"... since then I'm a big fan !!! keep it up you guys (pliz come back to Greece this year)
I was listening to the growlers before I fell asleep. Woke up and UA-cam was playing smashing pumpkins. I promptly vomited, came back and this is on. UA-cam immediately adjusted and catered to my tastes, thanks technology!
maaan, this song tugs at my heart. I was one of those surf rats who smelled like the beach having surfed before every high school class-- but let that love (surfing) slip away
My words are weak compared to the drug What can I really say to help? Plus, I know what it feels like when you can’t look up I’ve had to deal with that myself But I remember the sun bleeds strong and everyday under the sun And I don’t wanna scare ‘em away, I just wish we were still young Beach Rats, reckless days, foul-mouthed salty kids All day healed by the sun and wrapped up in the ocean’s lip So how do we get to be so far away from the things we love So sad to see a boy’s love for the waves be replaced by a drug But I remember the sun bleeds strong and everyday under the sun And I don’t wanna scare ‘em away, I just wish we were still young Beach Rats, reckless days foul-mouthed salty kids All day healed by the sun and wrapped up in the ocean’s lip Strawberry noses, snakeskin backs and knees all covered in wax Showoffs begging for attention, trying to show ‘em that we’re rad It’s easy to forget about the world outside of the town Feeling free with no rules in the sea, but even fish eventually drown Beach rats , reckless days, foul-mouthed salty kids All day healed by the sun and wrapped up in the ocean’s lip My words are weak compared to the drug What can I really say to help? Plus, I know what it feels like when you can’t look up, I’ve had to deal with that myself But I remember the sun bleeds strong and everyday under the sun And I don’t wanna scare ‘em away, I just wish we were still young Beach Rats, reckless days, foul-mouthed salty kids All day healed by the sun and wrapped up in the ocean’s lip
This song made me feel sad for the 40 year old surf rats who still crash High School parties. I now realize that being a beach rat is their only identity and they can't live any differently. Kind of tragic slaves to the gritty lull of the waves.
HeatRush What you just said would make a great poem. (Which is ironic as all the seven hells because Brooks Nielson's lyrics are literally ALL pristine with their rhyme scheme, literally following the "classic rules of poetry")
oh no yeah, take any growlers song beach rats included and read the lyrics, the classic "Italian rules" (theres italian and shakespeare) and the italian rules is it rhymes every OTHER line. literally not one point does he ever break his rhyme scheme.
I remember hearing a while ago that this song is about a surfer losing his passion for surfing to drugs. Of that helps anyone with the songs context at all.
This song hits me so fucking hard. I got to meet Brooks a few weeks ago and we had a solid 20-minute chat. I'm actually so angry I didn't ask him about this song... Or at least thank him for the good and bad memories it gives me.
Brooks is such a deep lyricist. He’s criminally underrated for how good he is at writing lyrics. Shits incredible.

A true American poet. One of the best songwriters of our generation
3:52 hits me everytime. Brooks singing the last note, the little pause, the drums introducing the marvellous guitar solo. It's perfection
And then him holding his beautiful face 😍
It's been 10 years since this was uploaded, my friends. Hope time has treated you all kindly
Love man just heard this for the first time and it’s on replay 🤌🏽
You too sisters and brothers x
This music is timelessly good. I expect someone years from now, just like this comment, to dap The Growlers. Keep making this awesome music, please!
It hasn't, I got fat

No one is talking about the epic bass line that Stonio every time nails!
Das what I'm saying. This foo is beast! 🤘🔥
I just noticed it and it really is wicked :0⚡⚡
One of my favorite bass lines to play, so simple yet effective!
Thank you for calling it out, I thought I was the only one the was focusing on it
@@carloshernandezjr91 It is one of my fav songs to play on the bass, I can actually play it on the el. guitar (cover soon) :~))

I miss this sound compared to their current albums. I guess this was their state of mind at the time, dark and gritty.
I have no words for this comment just🖤
Yes I miss this sound too. I was definitely going through dark times as well so it made it that much better. I am happy their doing well and still enjoy their newer stuff, but this era took the cake for me and still does. This is the music you feel to the core
Agree! Their current albums are cool but this old era really feels more nostalgic and romantic
unfortunately yes
Why do you miss it...it still exists. Bands must evolve. However this IS my fav Growlers song.

this is the best growlers song ever...seems like it was effortless
I love the way he goes deep into the music.
I remember listing to the growlers about 5 years ago…. Such good times skating and cruising, wish they’d bring back the old sound
“So how did we get to be so far away from the things we love,so sad to see a boys love for the waves be replaced by a drug” that one hits hard!
This is and always will be a Growlers classic. Not even their new songs will ever compare to this era of their music
3:39 - 3:51
that part
i swear to god
most perfect 12 seconds of music i have ever experienced
