This is so selfish and disrespectful and discriminating! Karl was nothing but kind and sweet to her.
That's why we all need to be traumatised as kids so we don't become this arrogant 😂

When you realize you raised a spoiled brat.
To be fair, her mother was also a spoiled brat. The difference is she LOVED Karl.
I would be putting a stop payment on everything I had paid for on the wedding and I would be telling vendors to come and pick up their stuff refund or no. The little can get married in an empty church and eat air sandwiches at her reception.

@@notericforeman late 1980's actually - NOT the 1970's.... AIDS wasn't even discovered and/or named aids until the mid 1989's and the fashion is late '80s/early '90s... Just FYI.
She didn’t give her parents up for love. She gave them up because she’s awful and selfish
Yes she was
Yes she did. Love of self.
To be fair, her mother could be selfish as well. Karl was her mother's soulmate-just not as a romantic couple. He got her better than anyone else which is why she stayed by his side even when she was angry at him. Her mom had so many husbands thst it probably didn't register to her daughter to stay by Karl's side.
@melindoranightsilver9298
I am not saying Simone was the picture of selflessness, but I remember her saying something about her previous husbands loving other things (drugs, booze) more than her. I think she was actually with Karl the longest, meaning he basically raised Amy. I think that Simone is surprised by Amy's reaction because she thought she had modeled how to be self-centered but not selfish.
her parents were awful and selfish. The guy was a cheater who went behind his family having many affairs to the point he contracted AIDs. He could have infected his wife too.
Those two were the best couple in that show. They really had love for each other
They really are the best couple. They care about each other and see the real person beyond the snooty superficial exterior hiding the warm, kind people they really are.
and they RESPECTED each other and wanted to see each other happy
I mean, the bar was pretty low lol
It’s hilarious that the couple that were not romantically involved were the best 😂

This really was the best couple of the entire show. They genuinely loved each other even though Karl was gay. It took her time to adjust but she was so willing to stay by his side. It was adorable.
That mess is adorable? Honey….
@@abigailgarcia3090Hey, in a way I think it's beautiful how she KNEW her husband was gay, and she didn't love him any less for it. She didn't judge Karl for being what he is. To me, that's real love. Like, she'd love that human no matter what he is. And people are being bigoted towards her because she's married to a gay man and won't leave him even though he'll never love her the way she loves him. Because she's his best friend too. They're soul mates whether they love each other romantically or not.
Like, I think that's powerful that they still stuck together. They didn't deny who they were, they accepted each other for what they are in a time where that was very uncommon.
@@greyklopstock7155um, what?! She did not know until she found out he was cheating on her with a man. This alphabet mafia got yall in a chokehold ready to excuse anything they do. SMH.
That's awful! To be married to someone who is cheating on you and not attracted to you. That's so sad. Not cute at all.
She never loved his romantically, obviously. There is one thing ppl can never share no matter what's on trend that the person they love.
Thats not romantic love. They are friends who married, so not anything special about it
@charissa6648 i think you need to re-evaluate the notion that friendship is somehow lesser than romance. she is the only one who'd accept him, a dying man who's also a social pariah, and she's the one who stuck by him til the end. he also loved her dearly and supported her. they are best friends and platonic soulmates. they do not need romance to love each other. that's way more unique and special than most marriages lmao
Isn't this also in a time of history that people thought you could catch AIDS by the "infected" looking at you funny or bumping shoulders by accident?
I was a nurse at that time, we would get a very sick patient with active aids and the majority of nurses would refuse to take care of them, I took care of them, they would be in isolation.
@@georgiann6412I can’t even begin to imagine…watching people suffering and dying from a physical disease while suffering even further from the social stigma around having it.
@@euthymialy people were afraid as for a while no one understood how the disease works... and it was fatal!
Yes, Fauci spread that lie.
Yes it was. They thought so much as touching or being near someone with AIDS would get you sick and you'd just die. People started to think differently when Princess Di, against everyone telling her not to, grabbed and held the hand of a man with AIDS. Education was slow, but it did get better.
That is her daughter????!!! I thought she was her niece. Who treats their father like that in illness?
It’s her step father and the second one at that. Of course she is being selfish and ne uncaring but the mom was pretty similar at first
@Milkiia she's not just being selfish, she's being a bad person overall, she's a bigot and he raised her ever since she was a child

I did my thesis on Aids and what it was like back in the days my mother was married and had 6 children to a HIV positive man who did drugs and shared needles all my brothers and sisters and my mom were HIV negative i just couldn’t wrap my head around that so my college thesis for Social Work was Aids and the history fun fact nobody ever dies from HIV itself but complications that arise when you are HIV positive and your immune system pretty much dies . I learned so much around the stigma it was and what Princess Diana did for that stigma . When she touched a baby with HIV and hugged those with the disease she changed the world around this topic
There was a sweet man at my church growing up that I sometimes sat with. Sadly, I don't remember much about him. He had Aids and later fell sick and died. His was the first funeral that I ran out of in the middle because I was crying.
Umm. She took cues from Barbra bush lol 😂
Princess Diana was a gift to the world on what love and compassion looked like. It wasn’t just her beauty, her soul saw beyond the human lens. Honestly we did have so much to learn about HIV. Never knew anyone personally but I’d be the same to hold my baby. There’s women and children that just were victims of HIV.
@@Evelynmay88 i learned so much i literally had to interview HIV positive mothers and HIV positive kids it was an eye opening experience and learning journey he was not my father but i felt like i had to do it for my mom and my siblings because i had so many questions and they were born from fear of me thinking wait do i have it even thou i came along 11 years later when my mother remarried .
Your mum was probably a woman whose cells didn't have the CCR5 that the HIV virus uses to enter a T helper cell - very few in the world have such cells. She is a blessed woman.
I love how Lucy's character came around for him and stayed until the end.
Actually she stayed beyond his death. I thought she dedicated the rest of her life too. But she loved him.
When your own mother tells you this won’t be your last wedding!!!😂😂😂😂
for love? no ma’am. she abandoned her family for appearances.
The wife is such a true friend.
It was so sad back then how badly people were treated due to ignorance when they needed compassion.
The mom taught her how to be cruel. If you watch the show, the mother was a pretty bad example growing up (gossipy, vain, self-centred). She wouldn’t even recognize staff that had worked for her for 6 years, much less know their name, and it was implied that she regularly made cruel comments to her friends in the past.
The daughter is really similar to the mom when she’s young, so this is just karma tbh 💁🏻♀️
Facts
Just defund the wedding. Problem solved!
This is so sad and also the ignorance of this in the 80’s
It wasn’t just ignorance, it was fear. Nobody knew how you got aids at at the time. It was a death sentence. Even caregivers would get infected. Nobody understood this illness and yet it was again a death sentence. Everyone was afraid and I mean, everyone. Even the medical community didn’t know what to make of it at the time. I’m not sure if you lived during that time. But if you’d had, you would’ve understood all of this much better.
@@martiemc8398 that’s where the fear came from- being ignorant about it. We didn’t know what it was.
There was not much known about it in the 80's. And it was a disease that killed.
People were afraid, just like people were afraid of COVID in 2020.
This is how people behave when faced with a new and deadly disease. You should know this. We've only recently been through a pandemic where people only needed to wear masks and so many selfishly refused and said there was no disease. That was the ignorance of 2020.

This show did a fantastic job depicting their relationship as something that happened to many people during the AIDs crisis. Even through the dramatization, you can see the glimmer of truth.

@@drewfanatic22 and who taught her to be a spoiled brat, children are sponges, if her parents didn't teach her that was wrong nicely when she was little it's their fault, you are separated from your parents, you don't owe them anything
They have the most unique but somewhat strongest relationship. Also what era was this story set in? the 80s? the other casts look like they're from the 50s
The story is set in the same house in three different eras and switches between the different people/families who were living there in that time period. I've never seen any clips from the most modern time but I think that was the weakest of the three eras.
I assume from the over the top, colour fashion and mention of AIDS it’s set in the 80s ❤
50s, 80s, and 2010s. Keep up ;)
It's easy to judge the daughter now, but I remember the sentiment in the early 90s and late 80s against people with AIDS. My mom worked with AIDS patients and would tell us to never judge HIV+ people, so I used to get massive pushback when I'd say what she said, which is just that we had to be careful regarding open wounds etc, but otherwise HIV + people were just normal people with an illness. Most people being judgmental here would've been the ones I was arguing with
AIDS first came out in 1981...by the next year a lot of stigma was attached to it being a "Gay disease." No one was willing to go near people who had it. Princess Diana helped in changing people's views of it by willing to touch and hold babies who had it... and touch, and hugged other older people who had it. A lot of things changed after that... People started doing their homework and learned more about it.
Do people now realize that it's not prevalent anymore??? When was the last time you heard about it?
"My own mother... thought I was a monster...
She was right of course, but it still hurt."

Karl is a sweet man. Wish there were more men like him.
I loved this relationship because while they werent romantic the two of them cared for each other. Romance or not they were eachothers family.
That an interesting way to speak to someone who could turn off the faucet at any moment.
Reminds me of my aunt's daughter in law, when my aunt got sick her monster dil forced her husband (aunts son) and their kids to cut her off so "they wouldn't catch it", it being liver failure. What she didn't realize is that the rest of the family would cut them all off like they were dead. Haven't talked to either of my cousins in years cus they went along with their mom's BS, and frankly I never wish to again. That woman has a big storm coming when my aunt passes, and it takes the form of my aunt's other son and my mother.

I’m with the daughter. Damn Carl He wasn’t thinking about shame, or the family when he was creeping on Simone and caught AIDS. Now Everything is gonna be overshadowed about him, and not the wedding of his stepdaughter. I know Carl was under pressure to conform and appear straight during that time and it weighed on him, but he never should’ve involved himself in Simone and her daughter’s life if he knew he had issues. Why continue to waste their lives and their time. Carl was selfish, devious, and manipulative. He wasn’t her father, he should’ve gone thru it alone and saved everyone the trouble and confusion.
