No, it's not a thing. The minimum age is 15 and has been since 1996. You may be thinking about another controversy - when the rules changed in 1996, Tara has already competed at the World's, so she was grandfathered into eligibility (so she didn't have to wait out a full year).
Yes! Hypothetically speaking, if she had won the gold in Nagano, Would she have then won gold again in SLC? She may not have had as many nerves or quit Frank due to Hypothetically winning Nagano. And if she did win gold in Nagano but not SLC, would she have continued competing beyond that?

@@giddygp2816 You're right that Evgenia won with a flutz, but even if her flutz was called and points were deducted for it, she would have won fairly in both 2016 and 2017. A flutz is just an incorrect edge on one type of jump, it's not the most important thing in skating..
I think Tara was a wonderful jumper but the judges clearly preferred Michelle because she was the entire package. If Michelle skated the same way she did at Nationals, she would've won.
I want to believe that MK would've won had she performed the same at nationals. She really needed to have re thunk her program layout and perhaps adding an extra triple or making her 2ts into Lo. But at nationals MK actually had help, tara didn't do so well in the short, which helped her win the overall gold in the old system. Maybe just maybe if it were better than her nationals she still could've clinched it. But I'm with you. MK still should've won this. Still so disappointed after all these years.

I prefer to think that Zagitova had the same condition too cuz they both were 15. Tara got the claim because she was born in the later date (diff with only 1 month younger) so it doesnt make sense to put a title just based on the day a skater was born. And since Olympics only happens once in 4-years, its not the fault of other winners like Kim Yuna cuz she couldve won too at 15 yo if Olympics happened every year.

Tara is only younger because she was born in June while Zagitova in May, which is again something they cannot change. Imho, title should be given for something that people can work for/gain, not given (birthdate). If we determine "youngest figure skaging achievement" by birthdate, that would made skaters who were born in second half of the year less likely to get the title because those who were born in the first half will get it due to later birthdate. I'd prefer to determine it by the registered age by the cut-off date (July 1st) so therefore every skater who wins at 15 yo (1st year of Senior) is considered the legendary "youngest skaters to achieve....". But as I stated before, its my preference, just a thought.
