When I was a little girl, Kristi was my idol. I talked about her to everyone. One year we went to one of those skating shows, like Stars on Ice, etc. I was sitting in on the outside seat when the skaters came up the aisle. Out of all seats, Kristi down mine. I was so excited!
Kristi Yamagchic and Michelle Kwan are my Main reason for and passion for figure skating or ice skating pound this world. along with Tonya Harding but mainly and most of all Kristi And Michelle
Yamaguchi was a phenomenal skater. She, and skaters like her, are why I dislike modern skating with its wildly flinging, ungraceful limbs and constant jumps. Skaters can jump more than ever now, but if you've seen one, you've seen them all.
@@damianop100 She had greater flexibility and balance than many skaters, and I believe she also took ballet. I think it was her understanding of balance, core control to obtain it, and being in tune with her center of gravity that contributed to her gracefulness. Some people do not seem to have a natural awareness of how to use their stomach muscles to support their core. The ability to use those muscles greatly improves balance and poise.
@@annep.1905 How fascinating. Did you know Kristi was born with bilateral clubfoot, had casts on her legs for much of the first year of her life, and then wore corrective shoes connected by a brace for the next year? Makes her achievements all the more remarkable. I adore her.
she's way ahead of her time doing triple lutz triple toe combination. that combination was not becoming mainstream in women figure skating until 2010, 18 years later.
Sometimes a little luck in anything goes a long way. Kristi always knew Midori would make or break her gold medal chances. In this case, Midori's mistakes became Kristi's gain. One slip in the LP here, but she still won. In 98 Olympics in Nagano, Michelle Kwan didn't fall and got Silver.
@Novak D I think the point is that Midori was 4th after the SP so Kristi knew she had the gold in the bag even if she lost to Midori in the LP. Her mistake on the 3L and doubling the 2S wasn't going to cost her the gold. But anyway, the point is moot because Kristi won the LP that night.
@@singsongericIf Ito were to win gold, Yamaguchi would have to drop to 3rd in the Free Skate. Who would fill the second slot? Because everyone else skated so poorly.
I totally get why she likes Yuna. Her performance is absolutely stunning in a way that reminds me of Yuna. And some of her elements were also ahead of time. I just feel like she’s not valued enough by the U.S. audience at the time.
Same music of russian rhythmic gymnast Aleksandra Soldatova for the hoop in 2018😍😍love it!!😍😍😍 (aleksandra soldatova is the 2018 world Champion with ribbon by the way🥰🥰)
Before Yuna Kim of S. Korea there was Kristi Yamaguchi. I wish they made a film about her instead of ITonya and her rivalry with Nancy Kerrigan instead.
Kristi is the best female figure skater of her time by far. Just like Peggy Flemming was in her day. I'd put this performance up against everyone today but Anna Shcherbakova. In fact Anna reminds me of Kristi.
I felt so bad when she failed 😭 Imagine working so hard many years and when you get there you fail. But at least she won 😍 I think it's so fair. The rest of the performance was amazing.
Everyone else who could challenge her faltered. Ito and Harding fell on their triple axels, even though Ito landed it successfully at the end of her program, her TP placement put her way behind. Kerrigan’s LP wasn’t clean either as she had more mistakes than Harding
I read somewhere that it was one she was having trouble with. I think after the touchdown on the triple loop she played it safe. Still one of the best most memorable Women’s free skate performances.
The Salchow was always her bete noire and sometimes she was shaky on the loop as well. I guess edge jumps weren't her thing. But her toe jumps were perfect. Double Axel too.

Congrats Kristi on your Barbie based on this win ❤🎉 stunning performance!
Came here to say this ⛸️⛸️
Musical and sublime to say the least. America's greatest figure skater.
Yeasss! No commentary by Vern and Scott, just pure skating bliss!

One of my favorite skaters for sure. Glad I got to see her in person!!
Is this an overlooked performance in Olympic Women's Figure Skating history? I find it absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing.

Well they just announced she's getting her own Barbie with the same outfit from this performance. So I guess it's still being recognized. ❤
@@annep.1905 There is a natural elegance to her posture and movements which many skaters do not have. She was a beautiful beautiful skater.

She's been in my heart ever since this gold-winning moment!
Yeah
i remember Kristi Yamaguchi. she always skated clean. This was a very spirited lively confident performance.!
One of my favorites skaters 2024 ❤
Yamaguchi in red, she had high rise and roses, and red-carpet poses, and her outfit was splendid
She wore red a lot.
Absolutely beautiful. She’s always been of my favorite skaters.

I was thinking the same! That combo was pretty impressive for 1992
Iconic. Period.
I have not watched this routine. It is beautiful! Her line and musicality are breathtaking.
I fondly remember watching her in the 90s and cheering for her.
There is nothing more beautiful than figure skating and ballet. ❤

It wasn’t the power of her jumps that allowed her to win. It was her consistency.
She’s the greatest skater in the world!
I NEVER forget IN kindergarten I wrote in my memory book I wanted to be Kristi yamouguchi when I grow up
that’s so cute

That performance, and that music still give me chills every time I watch till now.
Malagueña is an amazing piece
So many people know her name for this performance.

this is so iconic.
芸術性を打ち出したクリスティヤマグチと、技術力を示した伊藤みどり、どちらも素晴らしい試合でした!! やっぱりライバルがいた方がお互い高めあって良いです!😉❤️✨
I was watching this at home with all the uncles and aunts cheering ❤

Yamaguchi is the best.
She a beautiful ice stater .She has talent , definitely !
Position at 3:06 to 3:09 is absolutely exquisite. First rate.
Beautiful skater, her greatest strength is that she has no weaknesses.
1:56 I would love to see the pick that somebody took in the audience
I remember my best friend’s mom calling us inside to watch the medal ceremony.
Wow, just wow…!
Back in the days when US women would miss a jump but keep on fighting.

both 3Lz not fully rotated with poor take-off technique (toe-pick usage)...the flying spin was very well executed.
made a mistake but STILL gorgeous program

Hi
Just curious, was that a fall at 3:12?
Why didnt she perform a Salchow?? Only 4 different Triples...

If she didn't quit in 1994, Tonya‘s target would be on her instead of Nancy probably…😶
That's why Kristi was smart to quit while she was ahead.
@@shihlin1 no she quit bcs the pressure would be too high
