The awakenings also show it too! You can find the meanings of it in redddit when you search the persona 5 awakening transcript.
Now that is possibly the best possible description I've ever heard.
It's probably based on "We hide our faces behind masks, and when the time comes to remove them, we cannot do so without ripping off some of our own skin." There's a quote somewhere along those lines

At least in Persona 3, there wasn’t blood when summoning a Persona. And the characters didn’t seem to be in pain (except for Takaya).

Joker really does look kinda demonic after summoning Arsen
I mean his original persona was supposed to be a literal demon. But they went with a gentleman thief in demon design after the concept of the game was more fleshed out.

@@osamaaltwaijri598 He wears them because his eyes give off a menacing look and he has a criminal record so people wouldn't like him as much. The glasses make his eyes look less scary and makes him look less of a delinquent. It also gives him that sorta "nerdy" type of look but I'm not sure if that's one of the reasons.
@@moomer2675 On top of this if you look at his uniform and all of his outfits they tend to be the least customized/most formal looking for shujin. He puts thought into his appearance trying to stick out less. If Kamoshida hadn't leaked his records he probably could have gone the year fairly plainly.
Its too bad that Joker was the only one to get an actual Anime cut scene... Would have loved to see the others like this too.
That's because he is the best, (BTW you can see other anime awakenings in the the animation of Persona 5)

@@wowiwhwbw I am by no means an expert on media, but I am very certain that having to hand-draw and animate those visuals takes money and time.
I will however agree it is due to him being the player character. Naturally he awakens first, so its only fitting he only has his done in sweet anime style.
No different than the fact that Yosuke's awakening in Persona 4 was the only awakening to have animation
If you ask me, Makoto Awakening is pretty bad ass too, without animated cut scene and everything.

Actual it’s a similar thing compared to when in P3, your initial Persona Orpheus calls itself the “Master of Strings”.

Yup, Love it, makes it 10x more dramatic.
Nothing beats watching Joker ripping off his mask that’s bonded to his skin so hard that bloods start dropping from his face and see suddenly him burst into demonic flames with the biggest evil grind you ever seen him does. Definitely my most favorite awakening.
Now it makes sense why Joker's mask disappears on his character picture when you get Arsene in smash ultimate
To recommend this and start off with Etika.... It's the cruel nature of UA-cam, RIP brother, Joycon boyz be strong

I love how everyone starts celebrating as soon as they hear Arsene talking but then proceeds to scream once the protagonist rips off the mask
Man, Joker's awakening cutscene has become one of my favorite gaming moments. I wish the other character's awakenings were as in depth and graphic as this cutscene.
Fox’s awakening competes quite well with Joker’s, with his bleeding fingertips and absolutely beautiful speech. It might actually be my favorite.
I think all of them are pretty awesome. This one takes the cake tho

To be fair, the Evoker is worse because it’s still that same feeling of evoking suicide *every time* you use it. The ripping the mask off violently like that only happens once.
@@chaliceohearts4658 nope , you see it when they do a weak spot attack , they have the mask off. Meaning everytime they use their persona , they have to do it
@@g.poupin1700 No, at that point they are still just taking a mask off. Repeat use of the masks don’t hurt. Just the first time. It’s because they are already in their Phantom Thief outfits. It’s a representation of taking off your mask to show your true self. Do you see any of the party members in pain from the summoning after the initial awakening?
@@chaliceohearts4658 tbh , the evoker doesn't cause physical pain. As long as you embrace mortality , it's pretty much ok.
So yeah , even tho p5 is less violent , both are still way worse than crushing a card lmao

Well considering persona 5 was alot of people's first persona game with 3 and 4 still being niche for the most part. That is not a big surprise.

I decided to take a risk and I spent 60 on the game, it was a big risk since I'm not usually big on Jrpg turnbased games and now persona 5 is one of my all time favorite series.. I've bought 3 and 4 and am looking into the smt games on ps3...

Arsene lupin the character this persona is based off Arsene lupin comes from the book Arsene lupin the gentleman theif a man who stole from aristocrats who abused their power and gave the acquired wealth to the poor. Cafe Lablanc is also a reference to author of the book.

It’s funny how I went from knowing nothing about this game until smash, to playing P5, P4G (my favorite game and persona) and P3P. Now I’m gonna play Q and Q2! Such an amazing game that I’m glad smash bros introduced me to!

@@wowiwhwbw true, i actually defeated the first boss of Persona 1 yesterday. You also only get personas when fusing the cards dont do anything by themselves.
It's too bad recent smash bros characters won't be giving people that experience, with Byleth and now an Arms character

The fact no one ever comments on the meaty sound of Joker getting hit in the face with the shield disappoints me. Like, you hear the sound of glass breaking. The amount of shards of glass that would have been lodged in his face is insane.
It's anime, that happens all the time. Hardly worth talking about.

Someone getting hit in the face is much more common (cartoons, movies, doesn't even have to be anime related). Summoning a Persona is not as common. Even if you played the other Persona games, the way it's summoned is different.

I squealed when i saw that for the first time and my roomie just : "Panda wtf." While I kept gushing over pretty protag and holy craf the ANIMATION and music and kill me, Arsenes voice actor is amazing and and and..." I mean, the P3 protag literally shot himself every time, this is nothing new XD

Ya’ll. I got some bad news. Etika committed suicide not too long ago, and just seeing him as the person to start off this video breaks my heart. He had so much to live for, and the way that he was, you could have never guessed on how much he was struggling. He had so much potential. He was too young, and he was an amazing and funny person. People say he did it for attention, but listen, suicide is NOT something people can just normally use just for attention. Sure, wanting attention is perfectly normal, but suicide is another thing. It really breaks my heart on how this whole situation turned out..
RIP Etika, I hope you’re happy wherever you are (whether in heaven, or somewhere similar to that peaceful concept of the afterlife)...

@Yolo Lol There was a video of the police coming to apprehend him and he kept on spouting stuff that people should leave him alone or that someone was coming after him. This was pretty recent.

After the gust of wind that blew everyone back the guards’ hold on him was weaker and they let go of him in shock, so he could move his arms

I've never played a persona game in my life so i basically went into this game blind. I've heard that persona was basically "stands but pokemon" so I was like okay, a lot of people liked this game, I'll buy it and play! and god I was in AWE, I totally wasn't expecting the awakening to be this epic?? After playing the game for about 66 hours (I'm in the last palace), it's so weird watching this again with all the known knowledge I have now?? it's so neat
