This was such a good video! Other songs in the Persona franchise you should listen to are Heartbreak, Heartbreak (P4), Color Your Night (P3R) and Last Surprise (P5) just to name a few. All good songs that are very much bangers!
@ReinzTheKing they're connected still. Both in lore (Persona 1 comes after SMT if... Which is an alternative timeline from SMT 1) and through the demons and terminology used, if you're referring to the entire franchise then yes all of Megami Tensei counts.
I like seeing people's initial reactions to the Persona 3 summoning. As a game of Burning Dread (Overcoming fear and apprehension, especially over death and despair), the Evokers are their method of summoning their will.
To be precise he was one of the main OST creators for JOJO Part 2 - Joseph Theme aka "OVERDRIVE" is just him also providing vocals on top of his regular work.
@@Ghostel3591 WHAT? Why didn't this came to my mind? maybe because i haven't listened overdrive in a long time but now that i think about it they sound same.
Feel free to start at any Persona. Two and One are hard to access since they are most commonly played on emulator. 3 's best version is PSP / Reload. 4 's is Golden. 5 's is Royal. You'll enjoy the journey, or if you wanna hit the OST then you will love that.
Gonna have to half disagree with you on P3 best version, i'd say P3Fes are the best version.. P3R are close 2nd, P3P are the worst imo (except for the fact that they gives us FemMC
@@henzaenI'd say that P3R (with dlc included) is a better choice than Fes because of accessibility and ability to control your party members, though there are some problems that make it fairly close.
@@henzaen I guess so, but the real sticking point is that fes has the P1 and 2 problem where you kind of have to emulate to play it so it's a fairly awful first persona game reccomedation even if it's my favorite.
Each persona game has an unique theme The theme of Persona 1 is about finding your purpose in the future and in life The theme of Persona 2: Innocent Sin is about denying some awful things that a person commited in the past, overcoming traumas and it has some unique things about making your dreams come true the easiest way The theme of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is about the fear of what you can turn in the future, ''what is an adult in the society?'' and there are some adult themes too like corrupt politics, relationships and some other mature stuff The theme of Persona 3 is about accepting the death. It's like accepting the future and it has some depressive moments. Live your life to the fullest The theme of Persona 4 it's to accept and be who you truly are. Everyone has your own sexualities, personalities, goals, dreams and similar things. If you keep using a ''mask'' in the society and not being yourself... One moment you will collapse And the theme of Persona 5 is about revolution. Teens vs Adults who are using the highest positions of society to do whatever they want. Abuse of power and manipulation All the games are great (even Persona 1) my favorite it's Eternal Punishment
P5 also has the theme of masking your true self, by acting like you're ok, when you're not. Joker acts like he isn't affected by the fact people treat him like a criminal. Futaba acts like she's not affected by the death of her mother. All of the Phantom Thieves hide what they truly feel.
@@ottooctavio367 because of Society. This their rebellion because of that societal corruption is what leads Rebellion as the theme. It’s not that they’re masking it. They have it buried because of society.
Full on Memento Mori which is why I love p3 cause they picked just a throw away slide that had it on it but it embodies the whole of the series just to remember your human and everything that encompasses so be yourself to the fullest and screw what others think.
@@ottooctavio367Yeah, and that repression of themselves plays into the themes of conformity and rebellion again. That's why they get furious and rip off the masks - it's a declaration that they aren't going to hide themselves out of shame anymore, they accept who they are no matter what, and they're going to lash back at those who want to force them to hide their pain in a way that's convenient for everyone else (especially those in power).
I haven't seen anyone explain Persona Q yet. So the Persona games/shows/movies happen (mostly) sequentially within the same timeline, which means the P3 cast is older than the P4 cast, who in turn are older than the P5 characters. Persona Q has clocks everywhere because there were some time shenanigans that summoned the P3 and P4 characters to the same place, despite being from different years. Same with PQ2, just add the P5 characters. And no, the cute animal mascots aren't Personas, they just look like that. As for why clocks appear in Persona 3, this is the game that introduced the calendar system where you have a certain number of actions each day. There's also the Dark Hour (25th hour of the day where only certain ppl can move), the impending doom of the story, and the theme of treasuring every moment of life because you never know when yours will end.
@@mless its really good, you will get hooked for a few hours, take a break sometimes you probably dont wanna do 8 hour streams of playing persona 5 or 3, at one point you will get a bit bored if its persona 4 or 3 unless you have some motivation to complete most of the game and move on
Butterflies symbolize transformation and the soul. It's also related to a quote from a Chinese philosopher, forgot his name but it was about his confusion as to whether or not he dreamt he was a butterfly or if he's currently dreaming he's human
The reason he always points the gun to his head is that, in Persona 3, one must have the mental readiness to face death in order to awaken the power of a Persona. In the first opening, there's a phrase "Memento mori," which is a Latin expression meaning "everyone will die." So, you need to be fearless in the face of death if you want to awaken your Persona.
@@junmaumandi7728 The original game explains it a little better. Evokers trigger fear (specifically of death) which the personas manifest in response to. That's why evokers are shaped like guns and Strega (and Yukari at the start) can't use theirs reliably.
Persona, as a series, is itself one of many spin-off series of the Megami Tensei franchise, which has been huge in Japan since the 80’s. Since Persona 3, the Persona series has widely taken on a life of its own and outsells mainline Megami games outside of Japan. I massively recommend getting into Persona, specifically with either Persona 3 Reload or Persona 5 Royal. Both games are life-changing and work equally well as an introduction point for someone who knows nothing about the games.
To tell you a bit about the games, they play as a sort of half visual novel, half turn-based RPG centered around different groups of Japanese high schoolers. The characters, music, story, and sheer style are all world-class. For the fighting sections you can think of it a lot like Pokemon (even though this franchise developed that system 10 years before Pokemon came out 👀). There are difficulty options too so the games are only as hard as you want them to be. I will warn you now that these games are long (well over 100 hours), but it’s absolutely worth it.
To answer what's up with the guns and the masks, each set of games has a different way to summon a character's Persona; 1 and 2 have them like JoJo stands basically, 3 has them shoot themselves with the (fake) guns, 4 has them breaking tarot cards, and 5 has them ripping off masks. For 3 and 5 in particular the summon methods are very much tied to the general themes of the games (e.g., 3 has a lot to do with death, acceptance, and making the most of your time, while 5 has more to do with society, rebelling against it, and the restrictions it can place on expressing yourself). Each set of games also has a different main protagonist (or two of them for the Persona 2 games), which is why Joker was showing up so much near the end; he's the main character for the Persona 5 games (besides Persona 5 X)
Mainline Base Game: Persona, Persona 2, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5 Mainline Base Game +: Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 Royal PSP Remake: Persona, Persona 2, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 2: Innocent Sin Fighting Game Spinoff: Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Classic Dungeon Crawler Spinoff: Persona Q, Persona Q2 Dancing/Rhythm Game: Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Persona 3: Dancing Moon light, Persona 5: Dancing Star light Dynasty Warriors Spinoff: Persona 5: Strikers Tactical RPG Spinoff: Persona 5: Tactica Full Remake: Persona 3: Reload Each Mainline Persona title can be played on it's own as each story is mostly self contained (Except Persona 1 and 2 they are mostly closely tied to each other) and the most you get from previous Persona games are small cameos or easter eggs. The whole Persona cast mostly interacts more with each other in the spinoff games. The best way to play the mainline games is the Base Game + editions as it contains the full base game with additional extra content. Persona 3 Reload is a full remake of Persona 3 FES updated for modern hardware. Persona 3 Portable is special in the sense that it let's you choose your gender at the start and that changes your playthrough significantly as it changes how people actually interact with you more than just switching up the pronouns being used. It still leads to the same conclusion but the effort they put into branching out the female protagonist playthrough is astounding.
"Persona 2, Persona 2: Innocent Sin" I think you mean "Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment" IS comes first, and both IS and EP are equal instalments
33:50 in p3, they use "evokers" (a fake gun), point it at their heads, and pull the trigger (even though its not necessary). The main characters other than Aiegis and Koromaru don't really know that. It just helps them summon their other selves (Personas)
No, the music is a big part of the marketing for the series. In the PS2 days you'd even get the ost cd with the game. There was a joke that you'd be buying the Persona soundtrack and you'd get a free game with it.
Each of the numbered persona games has a theme. 3 is the acceptance that you will eventually die, 4 is the discovery of truth, and 5 is about shedding limitations from society. Reload, Golden, and Royal are expanded remakes of the original games. They usually are the definitive versions of the games, with P5R introducing new characters and quality of life changes to the game and story.
If you mean beefy in terms of muscles, hell no, especially if we're talking parts 1-3. You won't see a character beefier than Part 4 Josuke or even Giorno. With the stands and personas though, you can definitely see where the influence came from.
You should definitely react to the battle themes, there's a video with most of them thats kinda lengthy but worth by ikprodextra, video goes until p5 strikers, the only songs its missing are from P5 Tactica "got your tail", "inextinquishable" and "quiet storm", a song from P5X "Shadow Loop", and then the songs from P3 Reload "Mass destruction (reload)" , "its going down now" and "don't"
the video being referred to here is the absolute best. ikprodextra made custom graphics including transitions and custom subtitling for the video. it's the only video i've ever seen that uses youtube's custom subtitle modification
the subtitles even do the thing that karaoke where the words light up to show where in the line you're at and everything. best production value of any music compilation ever
@@ArtouriousMM the only other place I've seen with the custom subtitles are the hololive vtubers music videos, they always have custom subtitles including color coding and the karaoke effect too iirc
Lotus Juice is the guy you hear rapping in these OSTs, hes fluent in English and seems pretty chill. the singer you were asking about from the P5 and the spinoffs is Lyn Inaizumi, apparently the composer Shoji Meguro heard her demo tape and picked her immediately
The P5 singer is named Lyn and she did a ton of voiced songs for the game. Check out “whims of fate”, “rivers in the desert”, “I believe”, “last surprise”
The singer you singled out is Lyn, she sings pretty much if not all the songs with lyrics in Persona 5 and it's spin offs. If you'd like to hear more of her i'd reccomend: Last Surprise Beneath the Mask Take Over Whims of Fate Rivers in the Desert (There are more but these are the first that come to mind and some of my favs)
The Blue Butterfly is a common way to show Philemon, a character in the first three games, however despite his disappearance after Eternal Punishment, he still shows up as said Butterfly. The only numbered game he hasn't showed up in is p5 due to story reasons.
I aint on no hating shit like respect to you checking out a new franchise, but i feel like you got to have seen people in these openings shoot themselves and have something come out of them instead of dying to at least figure out that they aren't depressed or have something wrong with them righttt? or is it just me. Edit: 42:54 Laviatan7 figured it out Edit 2: he figured it out kinda.. mb
Each Persona game has its own narrative and characters for example 1 persona has a different cast to 2 Persona 1 and 2 are connected and casts meet within the story Persona 3 and 4 are also separate narratives but via Persona 4 arena and Arena Ulitmax they meet (Area/Ulitmax is are sequal to p4 and set 2 years after the events of p3) as for Persona separate cast once again and they've never actually met the other casts outside of Persona Q where everyone forgets the events of those games To make it easier for you to understand here's when everything is set Persona - 1996 Persona 2 innocent sin - 1999 Persona 2 eternal punishment - 2000 Persona 3 fes/Portable/Reload - 2009 - 2010 Persona 3 fes/reload: episode aigis - March 31 2010 Persona 4 golden - 2011 - 2012 Persona 4 arena and Ulitmax- May 2012 Persona 4 dancing - September 2012 Persona 5 royal - 2016 - 2017 Persona 5 tatica - February 2017 Persona 5 strikers - August- September 2017 Persona 5 the phantom x - 2023 (alt timeline)
The idea of Personas definitely is a reference or inspiration to JoJo Stands where they are the manifestation of a person's true self. And yes, JoJo came before the Persona franchise if we are talking about the manga being first introduced in 1984. Some games like Persona 4 take their stories to be very similar to JoJo, like Part 4.
Regarding your question about the recurring appearance of butterflies. They're the symbol of a powerful entity in the series named Philemon and usually imply his presence. Regarding Masks being used in later entries, the word Persona means Mask in Latin. Its also used as a summoning medium for their abilities.
“Bro what has this guy always got a gun to his head? Is he ok?” I love those reactions to evokers I was cracking up, I think everyone has a similar reaction at first but at some point it’s just so funny the idea of all of your favorite characters in a game constantly shooting themselves in the head in different ways 😂
honestly if i had to name any songs that are a must to listen to from the persona games, definitely "Daredevil" from Persona 5 Strikers, "Heartbeat, Heartbreak" from P4 is a vibe, "Last Surprise" from P5 and the remix of it from P5 Strikers, "Rivers in the Desert" - P5, Mass Destruction from P3 and P3 Reload (different versions, they remade Mass Destruction for Reload since it was a full on remake). and I'm sure there are others that ppl will request but these ones are some of the best imo
Persona is slightly inspired by Jung's Archetypes with a little dash of Gnosticism. If you dive into it all, you'll certainly find yourself down an incredible journey of the soul. You better start up P5 after this, dude. How could you just be sitting on greatness?
The thing to remember with Persona games is that games with an affix (Reload, Royal, Golden) brought the games up to date with newer graphics and reworked systems. IE if you compare Persona 3 and Persona 3 reload, the story largely stays the same but graphically it's massively different, and using 5 and 5 Royal as another example, they reworked the social system to address player complaints and added an entire extra 4 months of ingame time worth of content.
yeh persona has been compared to stands loads of time but they do have some characteristic differences like to highlight a few; persona's arent invisible to regular people, they can evolve base on the user's own mentality and they arent so metaphysically linked to their users so like injuring a persona wont incur the same injury on its user nor would killing a persona bring about the death of it's user like a stand would as it can just be resummoned afterward though destroying a persona does cause some headaches to its user
about a butterfly. Persona games is based on Carl Jung's psychology and in that psychology has an entity called Philemon a guiden of humanity through unconcious mind and in Persona he has butterfly as his symbol
Persona 4 Golden was for a long time PS Vita exclusive and it was only noteable JRPG on platform. That intro on Vita (especially on original OLED version, not on cheaper LCD version) looked absolutely stunning, ngl - colors just popped.
You were asking if this or Jojo came first, and the answer is that Jojo is a major inspiration of this series. Apart from the persona's (stands) themselves there are tons of references to Jojo throughout the games. Like the plot of Persona 4 is the exact same concept as the plot of Jojo's Part 4.
One thing to keep in mind for Persona openings is that symbolism is very prominent. It gets you into the feel of what's to come from the games. Its part of the reason I never skip openings on first boot up.
Basically, the ones like Persona 3 Portable, Persona 3 Reload, Person 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal are like the completed, definitive edition of the original Persona 3, 4, and 5. Atlus has done this to improve on most of the stuff and make the game even better.
Those bullet/pill style MP3s were legit the coolest ones out there. Everyone was hyped about ipod nano, but bruh. Nothing compared to the style of the bullet MP3. ..Except maybe Zune 👀
The Persona series was originally a spin off of the Shin Megami Tensei series. The game is about high school students who have a special power called personas and must use that power to save the world. but Persona 3 took the series in a new direction by making the game into two parts, a life simulator and a dungeon crawler, everything you do in normal life makes you stronger in the dungeon part of the game. The life simulator part has special side stories with side characters and party members called social links, when doing those stories your Personas become stronger and you get other bonuses. Thanks to that new gameplay formula, Persona became much more popular than Shin megami tensei, making Persona Atlus's new mascot franchise and after that it got a lot of spin-offs of its own. The games often get improved re-released versions with new content and story content, for example Persona 4 golden and 5 royal are improved versions of 4 and 5, and 3 Reload is a full on remake of 3 Persona 3 4 and 5 are not connected, they are in the same universe but you can play those 3 games story in any order you want. Every game has its own theme Persona 3's theme is death, it follows a group of high school students trying to cope with, understand and accept death in a world surrounded by it, as well as find their own reasons for living Persona 4's theme is "truth", as the characters overcome their own problems by facing themselves, helping them see past rumors and falsehood. 5's themes revolve around attaining freedom from the limitations of modern society: the story was strongly inspired by picaresque fiction, and the party's Personas were based on literary outlaws and rebels. but I would first play 5 royal because of the Handcrafted Dungeons, then 3 reload because it has many of the improvements from 5 and then 4 golden because it's a bit Rough Around the Edges but still great
One song that I really dig is called "Everyday Mix". For context, in the games, there's music for everything you do and the one you hear the most is the music that plays when you walk around the town and do the normal stuff. This mix was performed at the live concert event back in 2017 which had the 3 singers of each game sing those songs as a medley and mix. It's one of my favorite songs because I loved it when they started mixing the artists for each entry together back in the p4 era and when they still do. ua-cam.com/video/EjLHGg6bp2w/v-deo.html
A few things every persona game with a number have their own main cast Example: all p5 games is the phantom thieves with joker as the main characters except p5x Persona 1,2, and 3 were japan exclusive We did get the remakes for 1 and both of 2 P3 fes was the worldwide release with the story extended P3P was the psp version featuring a female protagonist but the extended story from p3 fes was removed P3 reload was the recent remake for p3 fes ( no female protagonist tho) P4 is the original P4 golden was the remake for vita (with an extra story added) recently added to every console and pc P4 arena is a fighting game that continues p4g story featuring 3 characters from p3 P4 ultimax is part 2 of arena, adding the remaining members from p3 Persona Q is a colab with p3 and p4 crews team up in an alternate world from there's P4 dancing all night is a rhythm game that continues p4g story, p3d and p5d where just extra dancing games, no story that was apart of there main story P5 is the original P5 royal is an enhanced version with an extension and added content P5 strikers is a continuation of p5 og with a dynasty warriors gameplay P5 tactica is an added story after p5 main story but before it ended in an alternate world (kind of) PQ2 is the same as PQ1 but with a whole new story with a teams from p3, p4, p5 Last thing every game minus 1and 2 summon and gain there Persona differently, I won't spoil how they get them P1 and p2- just summon them P3- shoots themselves with a special gun minus the aigis (the robot) and koromaru (the dog) P4- crush tarot cards P5- rip of there mask
the reason that dude shot himself in the head, is because first off its not a gun. its a thingy called an evoker. they do that to summon persona's, basically big spooky scary pokemon.
lol you'll get answers if you check out more but till then... 3 to 5 are the "important" games personas are essentially stands, that never changes regarding the masks and shit, think of them like costumes more or less the games are (stupid long) rpgs that follow a group of high schoolers as they awaken the power to summon a demon each game is a little different, from the way personas work, to, obviously, the story of how why and what's going on you follow a different group of people who in some way or another get involved in magic bullshit and it eventually leads into what you'd expect from a well regarded jrpg 3, 4, and 5 don't really connect but (to my knowledge) all take place within the same timeline of events, usually years apart but still i think thats everything i can clarify as of rn lol I hope you check out more from this series that I hold almost too dearly
Also each one has a weird theme sometimed. For like 3 each of them has a gun and has to pull the trigger on themselves to summon their spirit. In 4 all you need is a pair of glasses to help them. In 5 you have to become a theif adter tearing off your mask
The butterfly comes from a chinese poem, which is in the first opening (in japanese in this video so you couldn't read it) "I dreamt I was a butterfly. I couldn't tell I was dreaming. But when I woke, I was I and not a butterfly. Was I dreaming that I was the butterfly, or was the butterfly dreaming that it was me?"
It's funny you talk about how long-lived the Persona series is. Persona 5 originally released during the 20th year of the franchise and had a number of DLCs to reflect the anniversary.
Someone else probably already said this, but to clarify: Every numbered Persona game has a completely different plot and a completely different cast (and a different way to summon their personas). Here's a list of each game, and what they are, in case you wanted to play them and know which ones are mainline games, remakes, spinoffs, etc: Persona 1 (Persona Revelations) - mainline game Persona 1 PSP Remake - remake Persona 2 Innocent Sin - mainline game Persona 2 Eternal Punishment - sequel to P2:IS Both of their PSP remakes Persona 3 - mainline game Persona 3 FES - definitive version of P3 Persona 3 Portable - PSP port of P3 with added alternate female protagonist Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight - dancing game spinoff Persona 3 Reload - modern remake of P3, allegedly to test some stuff for P6? Persona 4 - mainline game Persona 4 Golden - definitive version of P4 Persona 4 Arena - fighting game spinoff (with some returning cameos from P3 cast) Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - another fighting game spinoff (with more returning chars from P3) Persona 4 Dancing All Night - dancing game spinoff Persona 5 - mainline game Persona 5 Royal - definitive version of P5 Persona 5 Strikers - direct sequel to P5 Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight - dancing game spinoff Persona 5 Tactica - idk but chat says it's a strategy rpg spinoff so I'll believe them Persona 5 Phantom X - gatcha game spinoff? sequel? it follows another cast of characters but like they work with P5 so it's more of a next generation thing or something, idk it's not even out yet afaik Persona Q - P3/P4 crossover spinoff Persona Q2 - P3/P4/P5 crossover spinoff
41:45 In P3 the MC (Makoto Yuki, or Kotone Shiomi if you're using FemC from Portable) is constantly shooting themselves because that's what triggers their Personas, the Evoker (The Gun they hold) represents them overcoming the fear of death. Same with Yu Narukami (grey hair, glasses, p4) Crushing a Physical Arcana And Joker ripping his mask off. It's how they summon their Personas. And with Joker, his actual name is Ren Amimiya, but Joker is his uh literal persona that he has an outfit for where he has the mask on (Not the Stand, but basically his alter ego) the main Persona you see him summon (the black-winged Devil in red with the Tophat) is Arsene. And in 5 Specifically, your observations are correct, they are Undercover in certain circumstances, this in fact why they wear masks. Persona also has it's related basically sister series' from ATLUS being SMT (Shin Megami Tensei), and the newly released (and absolute banger of a game I'm playing as we speak) Metaphor: ReFantazio
Yeah, the music quality doesn’t end with just the openings. P3 onwards, also known as the modern games tend to have the great music the series is known for. The game themselves are turn based party combat games. Listening to the combat songs or even the day and night time ambient songs are great.
If you like the music here I recommend you listen to all persona battle themes, a lot of them are even better than these openings, and like the openings, they are vocal tracks. Also each game has a dedicated vocalist, and persona 3 has the rapper as well, so you can hear how each games vibe differs with each of them. For example, you kept talking about how much you messed with the p5 vocalist Lyn, who probably has the most battle themes out of the other vocalists because of how many persona 5 games there are. Only other vocalist who probably has more than her is Lotus Juice because he’s in so many versions of persona 3. (Side note, personal 3 actually has another vocalist for the female protagonist in p3 portable, and another one who replaced the original in p3 reload, but the rapper is the same.)
“We need an intervention for (Minato/Makoto)” lol. When you play the game and realize using a gun is how you summon your persona/stand… you play some more and agree that yeah, Minato/Makoto still needs an intervention XD
Every Persona game has a different cast and unrelated stories (they sometimes are cited as an easter eggs in later games but they are 100% unrelated). They share a similar story progression that goes from "be a good student" on day 1 to "kill god" in the endgame. The evocations of Persona are linked to the main themes of the game itself. In Persona 3 they shot themselves with the Evokers (the guns they're holding) because their awakening goes toward overcoming the fear of death and find acceptance. In Persona 4 they destroy the cards they're holding, as they accept the hidden parts of themselves, good and bad. In Persona 5 they tear down the masks on their face as they try to unmask the injustice of the society. Also: Persona 3 is the base game, Persona 3 FES is a revised version with an additional final chapter, Persona 3 Portable is the psp version with some huge changes (you can choose a female MC with a slightly different point of view of events), Persona 3 Reload is the 2024 remake of the original+FES. Persona 4 is the base game, Persona 4 Golden is a revised version with extra content. Persona 5 is the base game, Persona 5 Royal is a revised version with extra content. Every other chapter (like Arena, ultimax, Dancing, Q1/2) is non-canon and a spinoff with a different game style
good vid btw, the algorithm brought me here. Im sure the comments were correcting how you were wrong about them becoming personas now, but you're kinda right when it comes to their new IP Metaphor:Re Fantazio. and yea you're right they really made Joker the poster boy of anything Persona now.
listening to the in-game osts would take a long time, but if you're interested i recommend checking out the battle themes first, as those are widely considered the best songs in the games. there's a very well made video called Persona - All Battle Themes 1996-2020, it's long but it covers most of the games. though since Reload released in 2024, it doesn't have two songs called It's Going Down Now and Don't which are some of my favorites in the entire series and definitely worth checking out as well after that if you've got the time.
To answer some questions, Jojo's came first, the butterfly is Philemon, the being who in the first three games (Persona 1, Persona 2 IS and Persona 2 EP) granted the protagonists the power of Persona, he's not really an important figure in later games as I believe from 3 onwards takes place in a complete other universe, but his butterfly form is symbolic of the protagonists imminent awakening to their power. As for the Persona 3 summoning catalyst In universe, at the time, research in Persona and other such fields were still young, often being mistaken for psychic powers, and the only way one had been witnessed to manifest was during a life or death situation. The Evoker's design, and function, is meant to trick the body into getting into the mode for such a situation, essentially triggering the summoning through the fear for ones life. There was talk of a scrapped mechanic in three where the evokers would have to be loaded with cards containing the Persona, but it's more or less confirmed that they are summoned through either self preservation or sheer force of will. Over time other catalysts for the formation and summoning of Personae were discovered, but the initial summoning still seems to be based around a great emotional or mental upheaval. As far as other catalyst experiences go, Persona 4 introduced the fact that Persona are just powerful shadows formed from the negative emotions and thoughts within a human, that gain power and malevolence when they are denied. The catalyst for forming and controlling a Persona in that instance, was the acceptance of their repressed feelings and thoughts, the Arena games hinted that if a persona user is afflicted with a great despair, their Persona can revert to a shadow form and go berserk again. This could be described as the most "Natural" way a persona can be gained, and the most controlled they can be, as the user can either give them commands, or let them do what they want, and they'll guard their user and others near them on instinct. These Persona take the form of a card when they're being summoned, and the user has to shatter the card in some way. Persona 5 is the release of negative emotions, letting out frustrations and anger at personal injustices and society, essentially, a persona summoning in this manner is a controlled psychotic break, the user just channels all their rage into unleashing their persona, which is why instead of the usual spell circle with arcane mist surrounding the persona, their summons are surrounded by blue and black chains, they're reining in and focusing their anger. These Persona take the form of a mask that the user has to remove to summon them. In all these instances, the power of Persona is referred to as "the power to control ones own heart." The fear that grips it, the acceptance that calms it, the anger that corrupts it.
That “gun” in Persona 3 is called an evoker and is used by the characters to summon their Personas. On a separate note, the “Royal” in Persona 5 Royal is pronounced “Royal”, not “Royale”.
Man persona is such a trip. Ive only gotten to play 3 4 and 5 ive beaten 5 and most of 4 but got stuck on a specific boss. 3 i get like anxiety thinking ive missed something lol. But man such a fun rpg to play and also really cool how you have to actually have to build trust with characters by hanging out with them. Also it is very jojo with stands cause they fight using spirit like beings. But the main character always has the ability to change his spirit
about Persona summoning, since you were confused about it in Persona, the titular Personas are summoned in four different ways in Revelations: Persona/Persona 1, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, the characters can summon their Personas whenever they would like, similar to how Stand users in JoJo summon their Stands in the Persona 3 games, the characters use a model gun called an Evoker to summon their Persona, as I believe it's supposed to symbolize them visualizing death (though it should be noted that when some of the Persona 3 characters return in Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, it's revealed that they can summon their Personas without the Evoker, likely because of the final act of Persona 3) in the Persona 4 games, the characters summon cards that they then crush in their hand to summon their Persona, but I didn't really care enough about the game to find out why in the Persona 5 games, the characters have disguises they wear, and to summon their Persona, they have to rip off the mask they wear, symbolizing embracing your true self
Persona 2: Rumors become real and chaos ensues. Persona 3: A sickness and a secret hour that occurs after midnight. Persona 4: A mysterious streak of murders and a world within the TV. Persona 5: A group of Thieves that pull heists inside the mind. Persona is so go. It’s very psychological and supernatural. You definitely won’t go wrong playing them. Even the spin-offs are great. And all the OST’s are amazing.
Personas are like stands and each game has different ways to summon them. Persona 1 and 2 are summoned like in Jojo, Persona 3 by shooting yourself with fake gun, Persona 4 by breaking a tarot card and Persona 5 by removing your thief mask. The butterfly that appears everywhere is a being called Philemon who is the one that gives the protagonists the power to use multiple personas. The old man with long nose is a servant of Philemon who's job is to help and guide the protagonists.
Right so, I'm pretty sure people have explained the summon in Persona 3 to you already. I've played the game a bit, and I've seen it a lot since I first saw the game, so I'm used to it mostly. And besides, you don't really think about that whole thing too much when you're trying to bum rush a boss to death or whatever. I just changed jobs, and I might get P3 Reload, so I haven't really looked at anything of it, understandably (I haven't finished the game and all) So, seeing the main character 'evoke' himself in front of a guy that's never seen this game before, played super straight, made me pause and laugh for like 10 minutes. And then the other characters just chain summoning right after that... Understand that it took me 30 minutes just to get through this section from cracking up. I'm sorry it came at your expense, but thank you for making me laugh, and merry turkmas.
The mask is P5 is thematic in more than one sense. Personas are "the mask" one wears to interact with others and the world around it, the way acts, its values and attitudes. In the game, the main group who call themselves "The Phantom Thieves" enter in the world of subconscious and that mask becomes quite literal in the way it serves to protect them from the surroundings and the Shadows, manifestations of the repress traits and feelings inside said subconscious and then they manifest their Personas in a way similar to Jojo's stands to fight them. In P5 they summon them through the mask more for the phantom thieves flavor than else. In P4 they are represented by Tarot cards and in P3 they use a special tool called Evoker to summon them. That's the thing that is mainly a gun they shoot themselves with to summon the Persona, again it goes with the theme of the game.
Persona 3, 4, and 5 each have a unique means for characters to summon their personas (reflections of themselves as people). Each one is symbolic of the game's theme. In Persona 5, each character wears a mask, when they take it off, symbolically revealing their true self, their persona appears. It's painful to do the first time because each method is supposed to be a personal challenge. In persona 4, they destroy glass tarot cards, obliterating this prediction of their future and swearing to find their own path (that's how I read it, at least). In Persona 3, a core theme is accepting and embracing your mortality, the action of putting the gun to your head and pulling the trigger symbolizes abandoning your fear of death and being rewarded with power.
in every game they summon personas with different methods and usually they emphasize the theme of the game, the theme of persona 4 its "truth" so they use glasses to see reality for what it is, Persona 5 its "Freedom" so they rip a mask from their face to free their true selves, in Persona 3 its "death" i dont think i need to explain that one
What other Persona Music should I listen to?! Let me know in the comments!!
Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
This was such a good video! Other songs in the Persona franchise you should listen to are Heartbreak, Heartbreak (P4), Color Your Night (P3R) and Last Surprise (P5) just to name a few. All good songs that are very much bangers!
Bettt!! I’ll do reactions to these
Rivers in the Desert and Life will Change (both from Persona 5) are my favorites. But basically almost anything from P3 to P5 or P3Reload is amazing.

Counter-strike (P5S). aria of the soul is a recurring theme, Mass Destruction (P3), Daredevil (P5S)... just to name a few

@ReinzTheKing they're connected still. Both in lore (Persona 1 comes after SMT if... Which is an alternative timeline from SMT 1) and through the demons and terminology used, if you're referring to the entire franchise then yes all of Megami Tensei counts.
Its hilarious seeing people react to the evokers from Persona 3
The awakening scene in fes gets such insane reactions sometimes.

I like seeing people's initial reactions to the Persona 3 summoning.
As a game of Burning Dread (Overcoming fear and apprehension, especially over death and despair), the Evokers are their method of summoning their will.
One must accept their mortality by facing a figment of Death.
To live fully, one must first accept the inevitability of death, and choose to live despite that

Two and One are hard to access since they are most commonly played on emulator.
3 's best version is PSP / Reload.
4 's is Golden.
5 's is Royal.

@@mystrenula3911 let's say P3R and P3Fes are the best on different category 🤔
@@henzaen I guess so, but the real sticking point is that fes has the P1 and 2 problem where you kind of have to emulate to play it so it's a fairly awful first persona game reccomedation even if it's my favorite.
Each persona game has an unique theme
The theme of Persona 1 is about finding your purpose in the future and in life
The theme of Persona 2: Innocent Sin is about denying some awful things that a person commited in the past, overcoming traumas and it has some unique things about making your dreams come true the easiest way
The theme of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is about the fear of what you can turn in the future, ''what is an adult in the society?'' and there are some adult themes too like corrupt politics, relationships and some other mature stuff
The theme of Persona 3 is about accepting the death. It's like accepting the future and it has some depressive moments. Live your life to the fullest
The theme of Persona 4 it's to accept and be who you truly are. Everyone has your own sexualities, personalities, goals, dreams and similar things. If you keep using a ''mask'' in the society and not being yourself... One moment you will collapse
And the theme of Persona 5 is about revolution. Teens vs Adults who are using the highest positions of society to do whatever they want. Abuse of power and manipulation
All the games are great (even Persona 1) my favorite it's Eternal Punishment
In a word:
P1 - Purpose
P2:IS - Past
P2:EP - Future
P3 - Death
P4 - Truth
P5 - Rebellion
There's also the Dark Hour (25th hour of the day where only certain ppl can move), the impending doom of the story, and the theme of treasuring every moment of life because you never know when yours will end.
persona is also known for there sick ass uis honestly the best UIS ive ever seen

These games are a work of pure art, hands down
Heard the game is super long though?
@@mlessthey are great, but they are indeed super long
@@mless its really good, you will get hooked for a few hours, take a break sometimes you probably dont wanna do 8 hour streams of playing persona 5 or 3, at one point you will get a bit bored if its persona 4 or 3 unless you have some motivation to complete most of the game and move on
Butterflies symbolize transformation and the soul. It's also related to a quote from a Chinese philosopher, forgot his name but it was about his confusion as to whether or not he dreamt he was a butterfly or if he's currently dreaming he's human
The butterfly is also an important character from Personas 1 and 2
There's a newer Persona opening you missed called "disconnected" from Persona 3 Reload episode Aigis DLC
But in the story, the gun is metaphorically like a match, and the brain is the fuse and the explosive.
@@junmaumandi7728 The original game explains it a little better. Evokers trigger fear (specifically of death) which the personas manifest in response to. That's why evokers are shaped like guns and Strega (and Yukari at the start) can't use theirs reliably.
“Remembering that you must die, is remembering you must live”
-Memento Mori

I will warn you now that these games are long (well over 100 hours), but it’s absolutely worth it.
iirc they actually only advertised them as SMT games outside of Japan!
Over 100 hrs is crazyyyyy 😭
@@mless it’s completely worth it honestly
@@mlessdefinitely worth it i finished them all in a month ☠️
Mainline Base Game: Persona, Persona 2, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5
Mainline Base Game +: Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 Royal
PSP Remake: Persona, Persona 2, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 2: Innocent Sin
Fighting Game Spinoff: Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Classic Dungeon Crawler Spinoff: Persona Q, Persona Q2
Dancing/Rhythm Game: Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Persona 3: Dancing Moon light, Persona 5: Dancing Star light
Dynasty Warriors Spinoff: Persona 5: Strikers
Tactical RPG Spinoff: Persona 5: Tactica
Full Remake: Persona 3: Reload
Each Mainline Persona title can be played on it's own as each story is mostly self contained (Except Persona 1 and 2 they are mostly closely tied to each other) and the most you get from previous Persona games are small cameos or easter eggs.
The amount of games here is insane 😭
@@mless There are also Anime and Movies... they aren't the best but do bring in some new music.
"Persona 2, Persona 2: Innocent Sin"

IS comes first, and both IS and EP are equal instalments
33:50 in p3, they use "evokers" (a fake gun), point it at their heads, and pull the trigger (even though its not necessary). The main characters other than Aiegis and Koromaru don't really know that. It just helps them summon their other selves (Personas)
The singer in the Persona 5 series is called Lyn
No, the music is a big part of the marketing for the series. In the PS2 days you'd even get the ost cd with the game. There was a joke that you'd be buying the Persona soundtrack and you'd get a free game with it.
Each of the numbered persona games has a theme. 3 is the acceptance that you will eventually die, 4 is the discovery of truth, and 5 is about shedding limitations from society.
Reload, Golden, and Royal are expanded remakes of the original games. They usually are the definitive versions of the games, with P5R introducing new characters and quality of life changes to the game and story.
yooooooooo persona is legit JOJO Bizarre Adventure's brother in stand arms. persona is a more beefy jojo
Jojo, but with *D E P P R E S S I O N*
_YOU NEVER SEE IT COMINGGG!! 🥳🎉🎉🃏_
Or you could even say the other way around with how beefy the JoJo characters are
@LatchinOn true but one thing you can't take away is that Persona is *almost* as gay coded, too
If you mean beefy in terms of muscles, hell no, especially if we're talking parts 1-3.
What is persona you ask?
Peak. Fiction.
The P5 singer is named Lyn and she did a ton of voiced songs for the game. Check out “whims of fate”, “rivers in the desert”, “I believe”, “last surprise”
The anime opening Dark Sun is also fire… but nothing beats the moment rivers in the desert has lyrics
The singer you singled out is Lyn, she sings pretty much if not all the songs with lyrics in Persona 5 and it's spin offs. If you'd like to hear more of her i'd reccomend:
Last Surprise
Beneath the Mask
Take Over
Whims of Fate
Rivers in the Desert
(There are more but these are the first that come to mind and some of my favs)
The Blue Butterfly is a common way to show Philemon, a character in the first three games, however despite his disappearance after Eternal Punishment, he still shows up as said Butterfly. The only numbered game he hasn't showed up in is p5 due to story reasons.
And even then, in Royal José seems to be *heavily* implying him
I aint on no hating shit like respect to you checking out a new franchise, but i feel like you got to have seen people in these openings shoot themselves and have something come out of them instead of dying to at least figure out that they aren't depressed or have something wrong with them righttt? or is it just me.
Edit: 42:54 Laviatan7 figured it out
Edit 2: he figured it out kinda.. mb
Each Persona game has its own narrative and characters for example 1 persona has a different cast to 2 Persona 1 and 2 are connected and casts meet within the story Persona 3 and 4 are also separate narratives but via Persona 4 arena and Arena Ulitmax they meet (Area/Ulitmax is are sequal to p4 and set 2 years after the events of p3) as for Persona separate cast once again and they've never actually met the other casts outside of Persona Q where everyone forgets the events of those games

The protag of p5 has an alter ego known as Joker when he goes on a heist.

Persona is slightly inspired by Jung's Archetypes with a little dash of Gnosticism. If you dive into it all, you'll certainly find yourself down an incredible journey of the soul. You better start up P5 after this, dude. How could you just be sitting on greatness?
Atlus actually almost went bankrupt as they were just finishing Persona 3.
Man I loved watching this video because it reminded me about the evolution of music in persona after p3 and the reaction of new people
Persona 4 Golden was for a long time PS Vita exclusive and it was only noteable JRPG on platform.
You may recognize Lotus Juice if you've seen soul eater. He's the rapper on Death the Kid's theme
It’s hard to believe Persona is that old.
And here I thought it was a lot younger.
I was only 4 when the first Persona came out.
The games often get improved re-released versions with new content and story content, for example Persona 4 golden and 5 royal are improved versions of 4 and 5, and 3 Reload is a full on remake of 3
Persona 3 4 and 5 are not connected, they are in the same universe but you can play those 3 games story in any order you want.
Every game has its own theme
Persona 3's theme is death, it follows a group of high school students trying to cope with, understand and accept death in a world surrounded by it, as well as find their own reasons for living
Persona 4's theme is "truth", as the characters overcome their own problems by facing themselves, helping them see past rumors and falsehood.

P3 fes was the worldwide release with the story extended
P3P was the psp version featuring a female protagonist but the extended story from p3 fes was removed
P3 reload was the recent remake for p3 fes ( no female protagonist tho)
P4 is the original
P4 golden was the remake for vita (with an extra story added) recently added to every console and pc
P4 arena is a fighting game that continues p4g story featuring 3 characters from p3
P4 ultimax is part 2 of arena, adding the remaining members from p3
Persona Q is a colab with p3 and p4 crews team up in an alternate world from there's
P4 dancing all night is a rhythm game that continues p4g story, p3d and p5d where just extra dancing games, no story that was apart of there main story

PQ2 is the same as PQ1 but with a whole new story with a teams from p3, p4, p5
Last thing every game minus 1and 2 summon and gain there Persona differently, I won't spoil how they get them
P1 and p2- just summon them
P3- shoots themselves with a special gun minus the aigis (the robot) and koromaru (the dog)
P4- crush tarot cards
P5- rip of there mask
the reason that dude shot himself in the head, is because first off its not a gun. its a thingy called an evoker. they do that to summon persona's, basically big spooky scary pokemon.
I heard somewhere that someone involved with the Persona 5 opening animation worked in Yuri! On Ice which explains the ice skating movements
Be said Teddie looked cool as hell. We stan Teddie in this house.
lol you'll get answers if you check out more
but till then...
3 to 5 are the "important" games
personas are essentially stands, that never changes
regarding the masks and shit, think of them like costumes more or less
the games are (stupid long) rpgs that follow a group of high schoolers as they awaken the power to summon a demon
each game is a little different, from the way personas work, to, obviously, the story of how why and what's going on
you follow a different group of people who in some way or another get involved in magic bullshit and it eventually leads into what you'd expect from a well regarded jrpg
3, 4, and 5 don't really connect but (to my knowledge) all take place within the same timeline of events, usually years apart but still
i think thats everything i can clarify as of rn lol
I hope you check out more from this series that I hold almost too dearly
3 and 4 have p4 arena which im pretty sure is canon
@ yeah but I mean like mainline games
Nice reaction ❤❤❤
Persona 5 royal with the discissions i made is still my favorite game
Also each one has a weird theme sometimed. For like 3 each of them has a gun and has to pull the trigger on themselves to summon their spirit. In 4 all you need is a pair of glasses to help them. In 5 you have to become a theif adter tearing off your mask
The butterfly comes from a chinese poem, which is in the first opening (in japanese in this video so you couldn't read it)
"I dreamt I was a butterfly.
I couldn't tell I was dreaming.
But when I woke, I was I and not a butterfly.
Was I dreaming that I was the butterfly, or was the butterfly dreaming that it was me?"
The timing of Teddie popping out of the suit when you mention the Balloon Guy was perfect!
"Why do he keeps shooting himself in the head?!"
Is part of the process!
Cool. Could you react to all persona 5 awakenings.
Here's a list of each game, and what they are, in case you wanted to play them and know which ones are mainline games, remakes, spinoffs, etc:
Persona 1 (Persona Revelations) - mainline game
Persona 1 PSP Remake - remake
Persona 2 Innocent Sin - mainline game
Persona 2 Eternal Punishment - sequel to P2:IS
Both of their PSP remakes
Persona 3 - mainline game
Persona 3 FES - definitive version of P3
Persona 3 Portable - PSP port of P3 with added alternate female protagonist
Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight - dancing game spinoff
Persona 3 Reload - modern remake of P3, allegedly to test some stuff for P6?
Persona 4 - mainline game
Persona 4 Golden - definitive version of P4
Persona 4 Arena - fighting game spinoff (with some returning cameos from P3 cast)
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - another fighting game spinoff (with more returning chars from P3)
Persona 4 Dancing All Night - dancing game spinoff
Persona 5 - mainline game
Persona 5 Royal - definitive version of P5
Persona 5 Strikers - direct sequel to P5
Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight - dancing game spinoff
Persona 5 Tactica - idk but chat says it's a strategy rpg spinoff so I'll believe them
Persona 5 Phantom X - gatcha game spinoff? sequel? it follows another cast of characters but like they work with P5 so it's more of a next generation thing or something, idk it's not even out yet afaik
Persona Q - P3/P4 crossover spinoff
Persona Q2 - P3/P4/P5 crossover spinoff
41:45 In P3 the MC (Makoto Yuki, or Kotone Shiomi if you're using FemC from Portable) is constantly shooting themselves because that's what triggers their Personas, the Evoker (The Gun they hold) represents them overcoming the fear of death.
Same with Yu Narukami (grey hair, glasses, p4) Crushing a Physical Arcana
And Joker ripping his mask off.
React to all the osts. I don't know what to say, every song in this series slaps
Yeah, the music quality doesn’t end with just the openings. P3 onwards, also known as the modern games tend to have the great music the series is known for.
The game themselves are turn based party combat games. Listening to the combat songs or even the day and night time ambient songs are great.
loved the vid
That was Igor. You might want to watch "Evolution of the Velvet Room - Persona" to see how he has evolved across the series.
私は日本人ですがこんなに沢山の派生作品が出ているのは知りませんでした
“We need an intervention for (Minato/Makoto)”
lol.
Also:
Persona 3 is the base game, Persona 3 FES is a revised version with an additional final chapter, Persona 3 Portable is the psp version with some huge changes (you can choose a female MC with a slightly different point of view of events), Persona 3 Reload is the 2024 remake of the original+FES.
"I wonder if this game has something to do with time"
Oh yeah, it has all your sweet personal time😂
good vid btw, the algorithm brought me here.
As for the Persona 3 summoning catalyst
In universe, at the time, research in Persona and other such fields were still young, often being mistaken for psychic powers, and the only way one had been witnessed to manifest was during a life or death situation.
In all these instances, the power of Persona is referred to as "the power to control ones own heart."
The fear that grips it, the acceptance that calms it, the anger that corrupts it.
That “gun” in Persona 3 is called an evoker and is used by the characters to summon their Personas. On a separate note, the “Royal” in Persona 5 Royal is pronounced “Royal”, not “Royale”.
React to all Battle themes, There's a compilation here on UA-cam too, you won't regret it
Man persona is such a trip.
But the main character always has the ability to change his spirit
about Persona summoning, since you were confused about it
in Persona, the titular Personas are summoned in four different ways
in Revelations: Persona/Persona 1, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, the characters can summon their Personas whenever they would like, similar to how Stand users in JoJo summon their Stands
in the Persona 3 games, the characters use a model gun called an Evoker to summon their Persona, as I believe it's supposed to symbolize them visualizing death (though it should be noted that when some of the Persona 3 characters return in Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, it's revealed that they can summon their Personas without the Evoker, likely because of the final act of Persona 3)
in the Persona 4 games, the characters summon cards that they then crush in their hand to summon their Persona, but I didn't really care enough about the game to find out why
in the Persona 5 games, the characters have disguises they wear, and to summon their Persona, they have to rip off the mask they wear, symbolizing embracing your true self
You need to listen to the full version of these songs
In Persona 3, they summon their persona by “shooting” themselves as they face death.
I am just getting into Persona myself,I finished 5 and just started 3 reload. All I can say is check out the rest of the OST.
Everyone always forgets Episode Aigis Op
I know of gran tourismo music but haven't actually liatened to it. im about to listen to sone of the osts, thanks for the recommend
P5 ost : Rivers in the Desert | Life Will Change | Beneath the Mask
