    About John O’Nolan ##
John O’Nolan is the founder of Ghost - a profitable, not-for-profit business that gives away their code for free. How? On the one side is Ghost the open-source publishing software. On the other is the same platform run as a premium hosted SaaS business.

    About the interview ##
We rap about remote working, pricing, competition and building a future platform to help journalists monetize their craft. This clip is salvaged footage as the main camera on John cut out halfway and the GoPro backup (you see kick in near end) was out position.

Friends I'd love some feedback on this... for context, this is just a segment out the salvaged interview footage: the main camera on John cut out halfway and the GoPro backup was off position. With a Podcast being an audio-first product, having to worry about cameras, angles and lighting definitely influences the flow of the conversation. Using one camera, focused only on guest - would be ideal. Question 1: do you actually watch an entire filmed Podcast or consume it in the background browser tab? Question 2: Extracting topics (like pricing) into separate videos is actually better right? Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I often listen in background but also cool to have the option of seeing the characters .. only reason i watched the Ghost one was cos he looked interesting. Good to have two ways of experiencing your content i think. Charge Double ! great advice - i'm a gonna do that :)

@@bryan_garrick_little Cheers for the feedback on in-background Bryan - yeah I guess ALL formats is best for everyone but as a one-man shop I need to optimize this work flow as best possible until I can get some help:)

Yo Rob! I'm ashamed to say i've not listened to the podcast yet, but thank you for the effort taken on filming/editing clips for youtube! I think it's just a personal preference - I've always found it hard to retain information from an audio only source & on longer content i'm usually the guy hunting for timestamps/topics, so this format is great for people like myself. Thanks again Rob!

No worries Matt - I also struggled with Podcasts at first but found once I identified the types of work I could do while consuming them - I started queuing them up. Noted re: bite-sized clips, I think it's the way forward:)

    😊STAAAP that mention tho.
Rob this format is super, I'd love to see some outtakes from your shows that you think are powerful, it's so great to see your guests on video!

:) I need to refine the filming process a bit. 3 cameras feels excessive (especially in the edit) - stoked you dug it though!

Very cool Rob, didn't know what ghost was... eish. but i'm often way out of depth watching your stuff, find it super interesting regardless. Did some google ferreting and Ghost is pretty awesome. anyway to something i know a wee bit more about . 3 camera editing ! Can see how this might feel overkill for a podcast ! ha ha. but it IS cool having the visual element. just a few tips that you probably already know cos you are super tech savvy but maybe you haven't found these shortcuts / solutions ? .. 1. If you are using Premiere CC to edit? - you can use the multi-cam function and essentially cut between angles in real time. (it auto synchs all camera's according to audio- which is obviously awesome) . This is a super fast way of doing an edit between 3 camera's - essentially it's like live vision mixing but you can fine tune after if you want. 2. or Maybe just use the wide gopro? the mic's are awkward (in the frame) but essential i guess, have you considered trying lapel mic's ? you get pretty good ones that plug into your phone/zoom or whatever you are using. or drop the mic's (look at Joe Rogan for reference) Sorry if these are things you've tried /and/or annoyingly obvious .. you asked for feedback :) keep on keeping on !

Legend for this Bryan! I am using Premiere and have not tried the multi-cam function. "it auto synchs all camera's according to audio- which is obviously awesome" wtf! - will dive into this in the new week. I think drop-mics is key for studio and lapel for the road. will test it all - long game this! Really really appreciate this advice man! big love

@@RobHope rad dude, ya proper mic's are obviously better bet. heres a quick vid i just found on the multi cam vibe : its a gamechanger if you have been manually synching before . also Pluraleyes is a great synching plugin, but try the built in one first . ua-cam.com/video/k_dVkFg6zic/v-deo.html

@@bryan_garrick_little Thanks will check this out! (also been thinking about shooting one wider 2k or 4k shot and switching between two cropped frames). But yeah, will experiment:)

@@Pauline_May I totally hear you! I had to identify what types of work I could listen to Podcasts with (as I don't commute). Now I've got more of a schedule. Quite funny a lot of the listener feedback says washing dishes is when they listen:)
