Rob, I just heard about Johnny. It was in my morning news. I'm so, so sad for his friends and family who will miss him so much, but glad he is no longer trapped helplessly in that prison. He did wonderful things on this earth and touched a generation with his alter ego Mark McCain. I will never forget him, and anybody who supports your channel fully understands your love and affection for him. I think he had/has an awfully good friend in Rob Word, and I think we were all very blessed to have shared a little time with him on this journey. Godspeed Johnny.

I was very young when I saw The Rifleman it was the late 1950’s. Mark McCain was my big brother, I sort of followed him and never missed a show. His way of behaving was imprinted onto my behavior. He was honest, trustworthy, loyal, friendly, kind, courteous obedient brave and reverent. Which to me later I learned that the Boy Scouts taught those qualities. Johnny Crawford was my idol, and as I grew and the show left the air I was able to learn later that he was still around and was the Leader of his own Big Band. His music was terrific and I enjoyed listening. I just recently discovered he had passed beyond the veil. I’ll miss that grin and loving looks that came from his face at everyone! God bless his brother Bob and the entire Crawford family.

Another GREAT interview to wake up to on a Sunday morning!!! We in the public are so fortunate to have this window into the people who have entertained us over the years...And especially the Crawford brothers!! The disease of dementia took my mothers life. It is a truly heartbreaking disease to see, especially in those folks we "know" and care about. It is exceptionally heartwarming to see a permanent record of these brothers together before the devastation. Thank You Rob & crew!!!

Alzheimer’s is an insidious disease. My sister-in-law died from it. It was a horrible thing to watch happen. The family suffered through it and no one was left untouched. Seeing Johnny struggle to speak because of it brings the memories back of my sister-in-law’s struggles and ours. I remember the Rifleman well since I watched it all the time. I remember Johnny as a singer as well. Keep up the good work you do Rob.

I always liked Lucas and Mark McCain. It was a great show about fatherhood, friendship and respect.
There were a lot of lessons about life in that series.
I remember watching one episode when I was a kid and they were talking about the future of New Mexico and Mark said that maybe someday they would have carriages that didn’t need horses and Lucas gave him a look like c’mon kid you’re dreaming. 🤨

Robert Crawford's and George Roy Hill's firsthand documentary account of Making of Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid is just a wonderful gift, an historic time capsule to film fans.
Having been the studio historian for 20th Century-Fox for many years, I have to say that this documentary and the footage that actor Roddy McDowall shot on the original Planet of The Apes are just a couple of the best behind-the-scenes insights into 1960's film making you'll ever find. They certainly boosted the appeal of the respected DVD releases.
It's a shame George Roy Hill didn't get someone like Bobby to shoot the same for The Sting!
With Johnny and Bobby Crawford having such iconic childhood film careers, and Roddy being one of the few child actors to have an equally big career in adulthood, is extremely rare.
You find yourself constantly asking when watching Rob's channel, can you see years from now someone doing this kind of tribute for what child stars there are now, or for anybody -no, nor can I!

I didn't realize the writer and director was former child actor Robert Crawford. I also think the Sting is one of most unique brilliant films every made. It's this kind of knowledge and access that makes AWOW a Sunday morning treat and staple.

Two really terrific young talents of the TV western's golden age.
Caught a Rifleman ep yesterday, one that featured Johnny and the great character actor Thomas Gomez. Johnny wonderfully portraying the innocence of youth to Gomez's treacherous heavy.
All ended well with Lucas coming to the rescue as we knew it would of course.
It's just too bad that life doesn't imitate art's inevitable happy endings as closely as we'd like it to.

Thomas Gomez's last acting job was an episode of Gunsmoke.. in it he plays a grandfather of the village family who shield a wounded Matt Dillion from bandits who would kill him....he has very few lines,is so thin he is almost unrecognizable, but still comes through with a memorable performance..he passed away before the show aired..It was titled "Hidalgo", and I seem to recall it was a two parter. It also starred Manuel Padilla Jr. as his grandson. You may remember him as young Jai on the"Tarzan" series with Ron Ely.

@@michaelmakes4883 Yeah, Gomez was one of those great character actors whose performances were always memorable, often standing out above the lead's.
Did a lot of Film Noir early in his Hollywood career, and being heavy, mostly *playing* heavies. But maybe his best performance was a highly sympathetic exception to that type casting, playing John Garfield's doomed brother in Force of Evil.

This is such a good video. It motivated me to finally get off my butt and donate to his GoFundMe. Thanks, Rob!

Due to my work schedules in the 1960s, until quite recently I had never seen the TV series, Laramie, available on Starz. Catching a couple of episodes at a time, I completed the four seasons, while becoming a fan of Robert Fuller and the late John Smith. The only jarring effects came in season 2 with the unexplained absence of Hoagy Carmichael (then reappearing in an obvious left-over season one episode) and when Robert Crawford Jr. portraying Smith's young brother was rather quickly removed from the series. It made me wonder why Carmichael and Crawford left the show. Were they fired or merely opted out of their contracts?

Robert left to pursue other venues in entertainment, behind the camera as he says during this AWOW episode. Hoagy left because he could make much more money performing his music. I enjoyed them both on the show. I also like the LARAMIE character that Dennis Holmes played in seasons 3 & 4. Thanks, Thom.
