FX’s new original series The Bear is about food, family, the insanity of the grind, the beauty of Sense of Urgency and the steep slippery downsides. As the young chef Carmy fights to transform both The Original Beef of Chicagoland and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveal themselves as his chosen family.

Richie is officially stepping up.
SEASON 3 WHEN
@@bijacz9679 Probably when these networks decide to actually pay their writers & actors a living wage
He wears suits now
They just prepared the food and it was too late
He always did. But I’m so proud of my baby for playing his strengths❤. My 45-year old baby who I’m younger than😂. Must protec Ritchie!
The sadness of this scene is that Carmy couldn't see it. He feels so impotent and helpless, but like, look what he built! He pulled all these people together, inspired Syd, directed Marcus, rebuilt Richie so that they could make this happen. They couldn't have done it without him, and all he can think is that he's fucked up
It's unfortunate because he can't get out of his head and he projects himself as a walking failure. I hope next season he takes a break and realizes what he's created.
He's like a Ted Lasso but without the self love.
So well done. The fact that he can't let go having prepped these people perfectly and then he feels like he's self sabotaged himself and let them down and he's partially right but also as you say; he's created an environment for them and helped them teach themselves and learn and grow and now they're a brilliant machine but he can't get past his own inner demons and by the end might have torn it all down again.
Powerful writing
That was in my head the whole time. It' so sad the he couldn't see it. Carmy has a long road ahead of him and he's gonna need their help.
The real sadness is how he wasn't needed. Yes, he got the characters into this position but now that they're here? The entire service was better the moment he got locked in the freezer (not that it's his fault it wasn't going well but still). That's the ultimate tragedy, he was integral for these characters to grow but now they're grown, his necessity it slipping away.
*Carmy's Mom:* surrounded by people all trying to help her but believes they aren't and takes it out on them
*Carmy:* isolated from people after helping all of them but believes he hasn't done enough and takes it out on himself
They definitely showed how generational trauma happens. I absolutely bawled my eyes out at the scene of his mom choosing not to go into the restaurant. My mom wasn't quite that batshit, but she was close. Unfortunately she never reached that level of self awareness awareness.
Its pretty tragic that Carmy beats himself for locking himself inward due to the trauma when that is a completely valid response to abuse. Obviously being trapped and locked in your head is the whole metaphor with the walk-in
@@kas7145 same but with my dad, absolute narcissist autistic super-insecure person who had insane parents and saw everything as an attack, so insecure that he'd just randomly perceive that his kids were insulting/attacking him and just lash out in some meltdown, living with him was walking on eggshells and even when u were perfect he'd have tantrums. Forks was such a phenomenal episode, and the way it shows how that trauma really fucks up all those kids, when they open the kitchen Sugar is still hoping naively for her mom to suddenly be okay, and Carmy doesn't think he deserves any good things in his life only stress, constantly being reminded he's worthless. Generational trauma gets you weirdly addicted to stress like workaholics, but also makes you constantly question your worth, Carmy didn't take it out on others, even when he screamed and yelled he was taking a lot of things out on himself. That utter feeling of powerlessness, things being out of your control, its super accurate. Also their mom like most narcissists love playing the victim and never truly owning up to things, thats unfortunately the way it is a lot of the time.
When we get to see just how bad Carmy’s family is you think
“Oh, now everything makes sense”
I know… I feel for all of them and it was so unfair for Ritche to call Carmy by his mum’s name that incited the quarrel at the end.
Like yeh they might share some symptoms but they are entirely different prople baby❤. Your comparison, I could have said it better myself.
Richie stepping up is the greatest moment of the show.
Absolutely!!
That and Tina gaining confidence and absolutely blossoming as a chef instead of a line cook at a neighborhood dive
Christian Laetner with the post...and it's in!!!
Richie’s transformation from a lovable dipshit to a man with purpose is probably one of the most satisfying character arcs
@@hawk622 change probably for absolutely
I’ve been WAITING for this scene to be clipped! Richie stepped UP and found his purpose and it was so incredible to watch. I also love how Syd and Richie went from being at each others throats to working as a team.
The best part for me is that Richie didn't just step up, he also managed to stay cool and even be nice to everyone, even under the unbelievable pressure of their opening night. I'm well aware the pressure a CDC is under in this situation is nowhere near the pressure he was under, but the fact is he handles pressure better than Carmy. Richie didn't become better at his job, he became a better person
Sydney needs to apologize to Richie for stabbing him and telling him those horrible things about him as a parent tho
@@doctorfantastic00Richie could apologize for antagonizing her, sexu@lly harassing her, and constantly disrespecting her but nah, calling him a loser when he was a loser is too far
@@snakeswithhats1913She also didn’t even mean to stab him. Pretty sure he backed into her knife.
Doctorfantastic00, Richie backed into Sydney’s knife, she didn’t intentionally stab him. And I honestly don’t blame Sydney for snapping and calling Richie exactly what he was being…a loser. Because intentionally being a jerk makes you a loser, at least in my book. She’d had enough. Good for her for standing up for herself. However, I do agree that Sydney’s implication that Richie was a bad parent, using only her personal experiences with Richie as justification, was below the belt. She did overstep her bounds by doing that; she should have kept it about just her.
I love how yet again Sugar reflexively asks Carm if "hes okay" to draw the parallel to their mom
Oh my! I hadn't realized that! Great catch!
Also they have to serve "seven fishes"
Great catch!
Also Sydney told Richie to 'drive' the kitchen, and the 1st scene we got of them tgt was when she drove him to get the tapes at the hardware store
Didn't think of that. Love all the little details in this series.
Richie and Fak were at each others throats all season. That moment between them when Richie tells Fak "Don't be scared." is so great.
Fak is adorable. Reminds me of a panda.
@@BatmanHQYTit’s also so funny that the actor that plays Fak is the best chef on the cast in real life
@@ChaSteriowell, I mean isn’t he the only chef 😂 cus the rest are actors
@@aR0ttenBANANA the main character went to cullinary school for the part
@@ChaSterioDamn I would’ve fuckin’ loved to get paid to go to the CIA. Actors man, what a crazy trip of a job. I bet he got put through the ringer there.
I think it's easy to miss that Richie was about to flop - you can see he starts getting nervous from all the pressure, but Sydney's reminder of "drive" helps him get over it and really find his mojo. Amazing scene!
Richie was so self centered that this was one of the few times a character needing outside support actually showed growth. He knew the importance and cared about messing it up when before he would have half assed it and - it it failed - blamed it on everyone else. He wasn't just a screw up and hearing others acknowledge that gave him strength.
Perhaps reading too much into it but could that also be a nod to their interaction in the first season where he was grumpy because he wanted to be behind the wheels when going to the hardware store? And all this time later she tells him that it’s in fact his turn to take the wheels now.
@@GFloresLuis I don't think you're reading too much into it at all, Richie was always a control freak, always wanting to be in charge, but what is the point of being in charge if you don't know where you're taking your squad? His stage with Garrett humbled him to the point of understanding that serving others is noble, and most importantly, it showed him that leading and serving are one and the same.
@@GFloresLuis Nah thats not looking too deeply. Vehicles are used all the time in shows as a metaphor
The “drive” comment from Syd - harkens back to Richie in Forks!
Syd's direction to 'drive', followed by 'Animal' kicking in perfectly is iconic.
Literal perfection
I love this scene so much. At the end of season 1, Sydney and Richie were completely at odds exhibiting utter disdain for one another. And here, in this crucial moment for the restaurant, we witness Richie's reconciliation with Sydney. We witness Sydney's growth with trust and delegation. We witness Richie's actualization of finding purpose.
“Richie… Drive” gave me chills on a level I can’t explain
Yes!! Goosebumps!
When Animal kicks in, just perfect choice of song.
The juxtaposition of this scene with carmy's lowest moment just created such an indescribable feeling. Heartbreaking yet uplifting at the same type. Beautiful writing.
It was like he helped everyone get there but himself
Richie taking off his blazer to get to work had me screaming at the screen. LETS FUCKIN GO RICHIEEEE
Yo, cousin!!!!
"I got you chef" Means everything here.
Coach K, in that infamous season, pulled it out by giving his players control over timeouts in the 4th quarter of that championship game. He trusted his guys to get it done. Ultimately, his players tied it up at the end of regulation to send it to overtime. And the length of an NCAA overtime period?
5 minutes.
Love this connection, great comment!
So cool!
"Don't be scared".
"Drive"
From clashing the entire series to showing trust in each other.
Phenomenal.
No one talks enough about the masterful use of music in this show -- especially from groups that have a connection TO the city of Chicago. Pearl Jam is beloved there, and that kick-in of "Animal" was absolutely spot-on perfect to set the frenetic mood. My compliments to the music director. (And the chefs.)
It is! But, I also want to hear Richie calling the shots without Pearl Jam, you know what I mean?
also felt this way too, I learned about Wilco some years ago and hearing them in the show was perfection
Recently found playlists compiled for the show on Spotify and I agree....whoever picks out the music for the show either has IMMACULATE taste or ability to select the perfect music for the mood/setting of the show. Or both.
I was so proud of Richie this season. His growth was beautiful to watch
Loved seeing Sydney's evolution - giving trust... and Richie's evolution - building and earning respect. So great to see her lead by knowing exactly what was needed despite her emotions about it and great watching him do what he always wanted - a purpose.
Ritchie has honestly become my favourite character. His growth is incredible. Really rooting for him.
@1:02-1:17 I hadn't noticed in my initial viewing but the fact that Richie is speaking with confidence but also clearly slipping in "Please" and "Thank you" to the team is amazing. Not only has his character done a 180, but the way he conducts and speaks to staff is with nothing but respect and thanks. Very subtle bit of writing that helps implement the understanding that Richie is genuinely a changed person, he took the compliment from Carmie, "He's good with people" to heart and showed it in spades in this scene. Moreover, you can immediately see Richie's calming, kind effect work on the staff when Sidney calmly and kindly asks Marcus for help and he doesn't blink. Wonderfully written, acted, directed, there is a very good reason "The Bear" swept this year, this season of the show will be remembered for a very long time for all the aforementioned reasons.
Also, something for you cinephiles to consider: Carmie's montage/breakdown in the walk-in of all the failures his team has had is him believing that he isn't good enough to be doing this, even when he gives it his all.
Such a fantastic scene; such composed chaos and controlled mania. This scene was so good at showing the development we have seen in the characters we watched over the last 2 seasons and whilst we are cheering for our diamonds in the rough, it was so heartbreaking seeing Cammy rile inside the walk-in, not able to see the fruits of his labour pay off.
I think that's also beautiful though too. Everyone there has been behaving as if Carmy was indispensable to their success but not acknowledging that he also gave them the tools and training and motivation to succeed (Carmy didn't even acknowledge that himself). But this scene is such a great example of the work that they had ALL put in, the labor they all seeded, a reminder for Carmy that he doesn't have to sacrifice everything for something (although he immediately annihilates his relationship right after too).
When Richie took his jacket off and turned the table I knew he had it. That man was fully in the zone
My favorite part of this has to be Richie motivating Fak and Sugar coming in and helping.
They’re a well oiled machine and support one another, yet all Carmy can think about is the chaos of the past.
Richie's "...don't be scared." Is just so strangely tender and loving almost - wonderful delivery, and Fak just gets it. Beautiful line.
I got up out of my seat when this was building up. Absolutely electric, best moment of the entire series. Richie is one of my favorite characters ever in anything.
Richie MvP. We ❤️ Richie!
Whoever chose this song for this scene is a genius
that song choice hit me like a freight train! i wanted to leap off my couch and jump around the living room. but i sat and watched instead and probably cried a little. my favorite scene of the series so far
Loved how the episode that was focused on Richie was so unlike everything we had seen of him so far, the episode was soft, calm, tender, structured. These are all things he desperately (albeit unconsciously) craved and finally found within himself throughout the season.
LET THEM COOK!
Literally
“Richie?……DRIVE!!!”
Animal by Pearl Jam kicks in. 🥰🥰🥰
The scene had me crying. Riches arc through this entire thing is inspiring. Those short visuals showing his tempo and direction becoming clean and streamlined was great. Like watching a treasure map magically appear. Great scene, visuals, timing, and dioluge.
this was THE turning point of the episode. i mean that both narratively and cinematically. prior to this point the entire sequence between kitchen and house was filmed in one shot (or what was edited to look like one shot). once richie steps up, quick cuts and edits make a comeback. when i first watched this it felt like i was holding my breath for the entire first part, and i could finally take an exhale at that turning point.
Richie not only stepped up, he matured as well and became a true professional in the kitchen.
Carmy stuck alone in his fridge with his thoughts is definitely the worst thing that can happen to him
1:29 such an authentic set of f bombs, lol. Love that actor, he gives off young al pacino vibes.
one of the best scenes of the season
0:13 That face Richie makes is one of my hardest laughs of the series.
Lol😂
This is the best show going now and also a nice reminder of what the best Pearl Jam song is
"Animal" kicking in was incredible but the reason why it works is, it was used as an outro song in season 1. The song before is Spiders (Kidsmokes) by Wilco, which is used in S01E07, when the restaurant falls into chaos. Great show, great soundtrack, great use of soundtrack
"We're lagging on these seven fishes" -- man I did not catch that the first time
Only fans who have watched both seasons will fully appreciate the depths of this scene. Ritchies arc was fantastic......and Pearl Jams "Animal".....forget about it!!!!
My favourite scene because everyone worked together and stepped up
FINALLY, THIS SCENE GETS LOADED!! I'M GOING TO WATCH IT SO MANY TIMES NOW!!!
Favorite scene of the whole series, it's so awesome seeing Richie step up and him and Sydney really come together! This clip is cut a little short, would've loved to see Richie slamming the final ticket down at the end of the 5 minutes!
Sooooo good, this and the journey from the 'forks' episode. Richie's evolution is one of the best things I've seen on TV.
I just realized what Richies story needs to be in season 3. He needs to come to terms with Mikey's death. Cause that has never really been addressed.
that transition into pearl jam is just....yeah, nice.
I've watched this scene many, many times. And it's beautiful on so many levels, I almost tear up. Richie finding *it* within himself.
Richie and Sidney working together to clutch up
By far, one the BEST shows I've come across ever.
Nat asking Carmy if he’s okay in the exact same completely unhelpful way that she did in the Christmas episode. Oh Nat.
That’s my freakin BOY right there!
My fav scene this season
Richie's character development is incredible
I love how kind richie is to neal in this scene. He told him that he is capable, a thing richie probably needed more of in his life.
The Bear is incredible. From where they started at the first episode to this is incredible development.
The Richie arc was incredibly satisfying.
Stoked for the new season🤘
Two small monents I live - the laser focus concentration on Tina's face, and how she's just like yes chef the moment Sidney redirects her.
Same goes for Marcus; he and Sidney are mad at each other about earlier, but he also follows her instructions without hesitation when she says to help with the fish.
THE USE OF ANIMAL IS ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS
Richie was the MVP of season 2.
Best scene of the show. Love the intensity. Music is perfect
This cast is superior, top shelf. A superb ensemble. Bravo!
Ritchie character development is crazy
I hope he wins best supporting actor at The Emmys! He deserves it...this episode was awesome!
The glorious part of this scene is that Richie embodied the main attribute that Carmen saw in him to send him to that restaurant, and not only handled the incoming orders efficiently, but didn't lose his temper OR freak out, even giving Fak the boost of confidence needed to throw himself in FOH. The marked difference between Richie in this moment vs. all throughout the season AND just afterwards when he burns Carmen while he's in the middle of a severe loss of his own temper, and even then Richie still had the growth and honesty to tell Carmen he loved him.
Just an incredibly well-written episode
Richie’s character development was so satisfying.
Just so everyone knows-- this is what "i got your back" actually means. You stay for the fire.
maybe the best five minutes on the bear and i am a chef
Richie becoming HIM is my favorite part of the show. I hope the next season is just them rebuilding Carmie
Richie locked tf in this season, I have never been so proud.
The song fits perfectly into the chaos but what I really love is that Eddie Vedder also waited tables (and IN CHICAGO) and to this day he’ll still get waiter ptsd nightmares. That never goes away. I’ve worked line, bussed, was a food runner, dishwasher and an expo (on a Saturday night at the place I worked at we’d have up to 150-200 people in the building and afterwards mentally I was just exhausted). The sound of a ticket printing machine I’ll still occasionally hear even when there isn’t one around me
I was cheering like maniac at this.
Richie and Neil's moment is so great.
Great needle drop in this scene
I love these characters all so much
One of the best moments in the whole show ❤
Not sure if I have seen a more satisfying 5 minutes of Television in 50 years. Drive.
Favorite scene of all time!!!
imcrying because this is one of the highlights
That needle drop is unbelievable
An amazing show! Phenomenal character development. Really looking forward to season three.
Such a great scene. Gosh I'm hyped for season 3
Love how Animal comes in so loud you literally can't hear Richie
Two minute thirty second scene. Brilliant.
Rewatching the show for the 5th time and just noticed a Van Halen song would’ve been PERFECT here
I’M NOT LIKE THIS CAUSE I’M IN VAN HALEN I’M IN VAN HALEN CAUSE IM LIKE THIS
True that but Animal was the ending song for ep 1 so it came full circle!
Love the editing in this sequence. The payoff had my heart racing
this is my favorite scene of season 2
Most badass scene in tv!
The tension at the start of this scene was nerveracking and soon melowed with Richie "driving" it and howww!!❤
Love this scene
Keep making good TV like this
That's awesome
I've been dragging on watching season 2. This clip was the kick in the pants I needed to watch it. The transformations here....wow.
"Carmy, you okay?"
"NO!!"
Dude I loved that clip. Edits so good.
The best character arc in a single season ever crafted. Acted to a T.
This is like those final ultimate battles in shonen anime at the end of the tournament arc
Pearl Jam + Richie 🤌🏼
This was great 🗣️
Once Animal hit,I knew our boy would crush it
My man DROVE!!!!!!!
Best show on TV today
Such a Good, Solid scene 🎬 for the last episode of season 2.
I want season 3 now 😫😩
Me,too!!! Such a wonderful show!
