I really like the inspirational aspect and high aesthetic value of your work: brass handles, attentiveness to details, nice surfaces, and a relaxed, zen-like approach to woodworking.
This looks like the tool of choice for most tasks, the usual sliding square on this type of rulers too often gets in the way. I will make mine this week-end. Thank you!
Thank you for this very useful little tool. In my opinion the first design is much more inspired than the second : no need for super expensive machines, much sober and perfectly doing the job : simplicity is always the end of the road ...

This build inspired me to make one, which I have now done with a few changes, works very well & I think I’ll make a smaller one with a 6inch ruler to keep the other one company. I looked through the comments on this & you don’t need anything other than basic tools to do the Superior one, trust me. My version doesn’t even require the locking internal plate, as long as the bolt is in the threaded insert straight and flatten/polish the bolt end it seats & locks the ruler fab, saves more too, thank you for sharing!👍
¡Gracias!
The first design I see is more inspiring, it is completely handmade, while the second design was made by machines, but it is great work anyway. Thank you
The first one was all i would have needed but then you created a masterpiece. I never thought i would ever say this in woodworking but watching you is so ( Mesmerizing ) and enjoyable. Thank s for the video.
It is pure joy to see your work and so inspiring that I am going to use your designs. Every video I have seen of you give me and I guess many others so many details and no bullshit about anything other then what you do. Thanks for what you share with us.
Great respect and admiration for a highly skill master. He sure give me a great interest in DIY stuff the simple economical way. You are the source of my INSPIRATION. I AM a FAN. THANK YOU.

Easy to make, indispensable in the shop and you can make as fancy or as simple as you want! Excellent video, just like all the others you have made. Congratulations on great workmanship and easy to follow instructions. Thanks.
I'm surprised he doesn't start the video showing us him planting the tree and nurturing it for about 35 years then cutting it down and milling it by hand. the first one is more beautiful than the second one, which is trying to be beautiful and 'inspirational'. simplicity and directness in problem-solving is beautiful. obsession is not. stay simple and direct to the problem, dont go mental, and everything will always turn out ok. the way you milled the slot with adhesive sandpaper on the ruler was excellent
Congratulations is an excellent job, although on the other hand when I finished watching your video I was left with a mixture of sadness, because I know that like me there are many who do not have the same purchasing power, and we cannot afford to use tools faces in something simple end of statement 👍

Very nice. The first one is easy to make for any one that wants to make one but the other one is more durable and beautifully designed and made. 👍
Very nice! I like to use a combination square! It does all your tool does and more! I could use your design to make a practical depth gauge! Thank you.

The guy is great and I couldn’t do what he does but the real difference between the two is the CNC machine more then any other tool comparisons. It allows for so much more detail and precision. I want a nice small one like that.
I made a marking gauge with your design and it worked perfectly. Thank you for your so precise work and simple designs that work so well.

It is not only a tool, it is also a beautiful art work created by a skilled Japanese artist. Thank you for sharing
This reminds me of one of those fascinating watch repair videos. So much attention to detail and workmanship. Simply incredible.
I think your perfectionism is the same as me. Watching your video is therapeutic. Happy that you demonstrated both versions of the tool.
I have no single idea about the tools you are using, but you know what, you are an artist. Looks so clean and high-quality.

Thank you so much. I can not make the second version, because im not even close to what is needed for. But i will definitely try the first one.
Beautiful, the simple hand made version as well as the tool involved version.
Beautifully and skilfully done.
The first one is a handyman tool, the second one is a work of art.
