Primitive Yucca Bullwhip - Does it compare to Indiana Jones' whip? (Season 2, episode 3)

- Can this primitively-made yucca leaf bullwhip compare to the whip used by Indiana Jones? Ever since I watched the very first Indiana Jones movie I have always wondered if it is actually possible to use a whip to do what he does in the movie. In this video I make my own primitive version of Indie's whip with yucca leaves to test out the strength of this simple tool.

Crazy how strong yucca is!
It never ceases to amaze me.

@@ChadZuberAdventures is yucca eatable?
From Samson, to Rambo, to Crusoe and now Indiana Jones. You are the man , bro.
Hahahahahaha
crazy how simple and how versatile yucca actually is
It really is
Why you never forge iron tools
Because I don’t want to. I prefer stone.
With that muscles, I'm not surprised @@ChadZuberAdventures 😉
That was tremendous. I especially loed the tadpole swimming through the saponid suds and thinking to itself: "It's not Saturday night - but I'm having a bath anyway!" Lovely video.
Hahahah, I don't think the tadpole was thinking about bathing.
Thanks God You Back in Desert again MR.Chad
Did you miss the desert?
The tensile strength of that plant in the way you waved it is really impressive.
Simple weave and still strong. There are other ways to weave it that provide even more strength but this technique is quick.
@@ChadZuberAdventures I'm sure there are several ways to do it but this way right here is pretty fast thank you for teaching me this valuable skill.
@@joshbevill1770 You're welcome
@@ChadZuberAdventures Stay safe on your travels brother. I'm going to sleep . I Almost forgot when I get set up in my new house with my shop behind it I'm going to start back making knives if you want one to try out . I will make one for you. Just let me know what kind of knife and the size of knife you prefer. You don't have to tell anyone that I made it or anything like that. I just want to make you a good knife that you can use

I was just watching a video about processing natural fibers in a primitive way. And the archeologist was creating a reproduction of a primitive comb to use to separate and align the fibers. It was made by bundling a handful of long thorns (3 or 4 dozen), the longer the better, by binding them together with cordage. It worked well to separate out individual fibers, kinda like combing hair. In fact it would probably ALSO work well for combing your long hair while in your primitive settings. Something you might want to look unto.
What's the name of the video?
@@ivoryowl Making a Neolithic Textile Tool From Thorns!
And the channel is Sally Pointer.
Thanks for sharing this. I have been collecting thorns to make weapons and hunting tools. I never thought of making a comb out of it.
@@ChadZuberAdventures You're welcome, I thought you would find it interesting.
Great happy smile Chad at the end.
And I thought whips could only be made out of leather. Thx for doing this and sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍
It was funny when you were trying to use the yucca as an Indiana Jones whip. Lol I was like thinking 🤔 hm he should whip me for practice 😂♥️
I've done a lot of experiments with making yucca rope, and the strength never ceases to surprise me.
It's one of the best
@ChadZuberAdventures I've used many different natural fibers for primitive rope making, but nothing has compared to Yucca. Have you ever found anything comparable that grows in wetter more cool climates?
@@primitivebushcraft4243 I don't have much experience with fibers in cooler climates but in tropical climates palm fibers work really well.
that was amazing work, can't wait to see how you incorporate the whip into your day to day life at the hut!!
Dear SpookiBunny.
Zorro Zuber or what? 😁😁😁
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
I don't know. I don't think a whip is really a very versatile tool. I think it would be used more as just a plain rope. But we will see what I find out.
He’s becoming more like Tarzan by the day
Greetings Chad, it's fascinating the knowledge you have of the plants.
I don't know a lot of plants but the ones I know I really appreciate.
Personally, I would have saved the saponin extracted from the yucca leaves in a container with water. That way you have soapy water ready whenever you need it.
That is, assuming it can be stored and doesn't degrade or evaporate too quickly.
You don't want to keep it for more than a day because it starts to ferment. After a week it smells a lot like poop.
@@ChadZuberAdventures Maybe adding alcohol could prolongue its shelf life? Or dehydrating the saponings for use later.
@@AaronC. I have thought about dehydrating it but haven't experimented yet.
This was awesome. Yucca is quite strong for cordage. Cheers, Chad! ✌️
This was great to watch. I started watching your videos a couple of years ago and have learned so much since. In the next few days I'll be attempting to make my first pine needle basket for when I go foraging for nuts and berries.
Pine needle baskets are really beautiful. I have a little experience with that material.
I congratulate you, Yuca is great survival material.💪🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes indeed
For thicker ropes, my experience has shown that a double woven double strand rope is better than a single woven double strand rope, especially for longevity within knots. As the rope is bent within a knot, the fibers are straight in the direction of the force and so the rope effectively just has the strength of individual fibers, minus the benefits of weaving.
There are several other weaves that would be stronger but they also take a lot longer to weave. Since I wasn't using fully processed fibers I just wanted to test out a quickly twisted style and I was pleasantly surprised.
Amazing fiber strength. Good test ride.
That was amazing work, can’t wait to see, how you incorporate the whip into your day to day and to day and more day life at the hut!!!
Amazing use of yucca :D good stuff as always
so cool
Now I want a yucca whip
Amazing!!!
This was genuinely hilarious to me… the fact you had the hat too!!! 😭💀
Now you're ready to discover archeology
Hahahaha, I hope so!
thanks for the tips
You're welcome
excellent
Dam that sage plant the bud looks just like cannibus they are both erbs that's pretty cool first time I ever saw a sage plant
Primitive swing set coming in the future.
🎵 Ka rack that whip 🎵
That's pretty cool. Be fun to swing into the water on that. Prune trees 😂
I was looking for a good place to swing into the water but I didn't find one.
That looks super fun bro. Hope you're managing to stay cool in this *intense* heat wave.
You can't stay cool in the heat, you can just endure it.
Chad you probably have the nicest viewers ever
There are a few mean ones too :-)
Unfortunately
Whip it, whip it, real good! 🎶🎵
I remember that song.
Crazy how strong yucca is!😮
I'm always impressed by yucca.
WOW thats awsome. Now I know how the [rope whips] are made. I make whips myself out of paracord. Piece advice. Make a handle inside the whip 12in longer, and throw the whip like casting a bass rod. Your projects are awsome...
Well if any bulls turn up they're in trouble now😂 that was fun to watch. Interesting too, especially the saponins part. It's something that is overlooked in primitive survival genre, fun toys which our ancestors made to entertain themselves great video, Can't wait to see another Adobe hut adventure though 😄👍
Saponins are worth researching. The health benefits of using saponins may really be incredible. I'm the only person I know who bathes with yucca leaves.
Once again Chad you made another Educational and Fun to watch UA-cam Video 🎥🆒
Glad you enjoyed it!

If you want to crack the whip, try mastering the straight vertical lash first. Also, keep the thinner half completely straight before driving it. The tip should be pointing in the opposite direction of the top of the handle.
Good tips. I’m guessing you’ve used a whip a few times.
@@ChadZuberAdventures That’s one way to put it 😁
That’s amazing! I would have thought the yucca would need to be dry before you twisted it. It’s good to know you can work with it while it’s still wet.🤗❤️🐝
I always work with moist fibers or else they can break easier.
@@ChadZuberAdventures it makes perfect sense now that you say it.❤️🤗🐝
Hello from BC Canada
Very nice primitive style👌
Chad, now you can look into a Collab with Jacques Ze Whipper! 😃
Well done brother!
Hahaha, thanks!
I don't have yucca near me, but I do have some esparto grass, which makes beautiful headbands and braided strips.
I was planning on making a sling, but maybe I'll try to make whip out of it. We'll see!
Do it and let me know how it turns out.
👍👌👏 Yes, Sir! Indiana Jones would've definitely liked this kind of swinging. So would Tarzan and Zorro! 😁 ;-)
Very well done again (video and work). Quite impressive how strong your bullwhip turned out to be. Congratulations 🎉. By the way: I'm glad to see that you are wearing a protective hat now. Of course you made it yourself and it looks really great.

White sage....I use it to smudge my home and myself. I envy you who can pick it yourself.
It's a great plant
Tune in next time when I attempt to build a Plantation. 😅😅😅. Just kiddin.
I've never heard of ancient indigenous people in the U.S. developing slings like in the Middle East. Would have figured Yucca would be a fine material for the construction. A question, this far into summer, what is the state of your water supply at your hut, streams and spring low enough to cause some worry?
It rained a lot in the winter and spring but now it is very hot and dry. No crops this year.
Hit shit with rocks, get built. Lesson learned.
It works!
does it only work with this kind of yucca, or also with others?
I also use banana yucca and hesperoyucca whipplei. I'm sure others can be used too but I haven't found them yet.
Seems to be tough
the whip needs more weight at the fall (the tip) it's not making the crack noise you want, cause it's not breaking the sound barrier
Haha! So fun!
Hmm... could one take down coconuts with this?
Maybe. The length of this whip is only 10 feet. A better tool could be made for coconuts.
Maybe Yucca Smith as opposed to Indiana Jones. Bet if you put a little strip of deer hide on the end you'll get it to make that classic crack a little easier.
Yeah, the leather strip would make a big difference.
God luck bro
Very good quality! Will it be better, if you add some wood resin or rubber-like to make this bullwhip more durable?
Yeah, there are ways to make a better whip. This was to test out the durability of a quick rope. It is stronger than I expected. It's good to know that you can cut 10 leaves and make a very strong 10-foot rope with minimal processing. A stronger rope can be made but would take longer. For survival it's good to know how to make things fast.
❤🙏
superb

Chad, do you have knowledge of the constrictor knot? Such a powerful alternative to a simple knot. I think it will interest you
Yes, I know the constrictor knot and I use it when making things that I DON'T want to untie. I used it to make my burden basket.
You should make a sling next
I used to have one but it broke. I wasn't good with it. Throwing rocks with my arm worked better for me. A sling requires a lot of practice to get proficient. My friend Chad Keel is really good with a sling. He's really good at a lot of skills though.
Ok 👍👍💯💯❤️🌹💐

any plans in future to do iron stuff??? eager to see one excute near the hut
I have to find iron ore first and then build a kiln.

7:50 do the yucca saponins deplete the O2 levels in the water like some other saponins that were/are used to catch fish?
I believe so however I have not experimented with this.
When the idea of owning a slave dawned on the first man, it followed by a thought, more like an image of a strange megalithic structure, taking on none of the sunlight despite it was high noon; nothing gives tells to its making.
The megalith, sheered on four sides and tall, jutting out from leveled ground. Why it was there? Doesn't matter. If you see what he then did, it would be a curiosity.
You cannot know what the megalith was from examining the many physical recreations of it strewn across the world through the millenniums.
👍
