    My college prof played a Benge 190F. Audience members preferred it over her Conn 88h Elkhart. I’m intrigued by that convertible model.

    I know a guy who bought a brand new never Sold Olds Super It was old stock, obviously since the company's been out of business for years, but he bought it in like 2008 and he's the original owner.

    the 48h is not solid nickel. It is "Electro-D" bell. the constellation line of bells are actually brass (yellow brass i think?) then coated with a thick layer of copper and then another layer of nickel-silver on top of that and then the lacquer. a very peculiar process to achieve a very desired sound.
    liberty and 2b bell sections are pretty much identical i believe outside of engravings. the only difference was the single or dual bore slides so they should mate up without drama. maybe in the past someone paired up a 2b slide and a liberty bell where the opposite sections of each respective horn was trashed or maybe someone bought a 2b slide to use with their liberty bell rather than buy a 2B. maybe thats how your horn came about. I've also heard of complete liberty horns that escaped the factory with dual bore slides or single bore of the larger bore slides. ive also heard of some verified complete 2b horns that snuck out with single bore of either the smaller bore or larger bore. If im not wrong, the differences between a liberty and 2b also sat in actual inner slide material. I could be wrong.

      You're right about the Connstellations... I think I knew that and derped out. Thanks!
      This one is marked only Liberty but has a matching serial dual bore slide, so it may be one of those sneaky horns.

    A well preserved 290 is definitely a white whale to own for me… over the years I’ve encountered two 290s on separate occasions that had both seen better days but played handsomely despite that. Benge was part of the UMI supercluster of trombone brands, right? I always thought they used Conn gen ii rotors.

      Yup, my friend selling the 190 has a 290 as well in similar shape that I convinced him to keep :)

    I'm in the market for a new jazz horn, so I'd potentially be interested in one of your horns (though I live in VA so I'd need shipping). The form in the description links to interest for lessons and the video description only has prices for some of the horns you mentioned. Any way I get in contact with you to get some more specific info?

    Would you sell the super olds just by itself?

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  2 місяці тому

      Yes, but it would be the same price. The Olds comes for free!
