Me and my mates did that ferry both ways in the summer, I'd definitely recommend paying for the commodore lounge if they have places. You get food and soft drinks all day plus wine etc. Worked out much cheaper than pay-as-you-go in my opinion and you have a nice view up the front of the ship.
No film crew? No back up vehicles?? Just one man, one bike ? Fantastic 👍 really enjoyed the journey so far, looking forward to seeing more, ride safe and enjoy 👍
Great to see so much positive input. I did a similar ride in June this year, I landed in Cherbourg and rode down to the south of Spain, solo age 67. Found it a little lonely from time to time and I was becoming more and more ill. After 3 weeks in the saddle I made it home and straight to hospital, multiple blood clots on my lungs and pneumonia....just new I wasn't well.......lol😅 on the mend still...enjoy the ride brother.
Just subscribed to your channel to watch this amazing trip and your very inspiring journey to everyone that is considering to get out there on the road!! Thanks for sharing! 👍👍
Congratulation for your journey starting, man. I'm also riding Suzuki V-strom 650 same as you. I'm now 69 years old. You looks like my generation or little bit younger. I'm very happy to start watching your adventure UA-cam video. Take care and have a good trip.
I am 64 and I can totally understand you. Way to go! I have done solo journeys to Russia, Turkey, Marocco… This summer I went to Tunisia. I get that feeling of freedom and adventure looking at this. I will follow with interest!
G'day mate, Joe here from Australia. Just came across your channel somehow and decided to watch this one. It looks like I am similar vintage to you and its great to see that your are free camping. Love doing that too mainly because its leaves more money in the kitty for beers and steak :) Anyhow, subscribed to watch the rest of the journey. Don't know if this is real time, but if it is I wish you a good trip. Incidentally I am going on a little short road trip myself starting tom. Cheers Joe
Congratulations brother! This is the exact trip I intended to take but at age 67 talked myself out of it.Riding solo was too intimidating However you have given me the inspiration to pursue this next year. Looking forward to more travelogue.
I met Jurgan from Germany in Baja and travelled with him for a week. He was 74 and going to Ushuia. A total inspiration! You've still got at least 7 years left!! Keep going and most importantly have fun !!
@@jamesfleming7746 Hi James, if you are fit and not in a hurry you can do it. I am 68 and have done two long trips this year. The longest was about 5,500 miles and was 4 weeks. From Costa Del Sol, Spain (where I live) through Spain and France to Cherbourg. Then ferry to Poole followed by journey to Airdrie, near Glasgow, Scotland. Then a similar journey home. I did a few 400 mile days, but also had longer stopovers, (2 nights in Madrid, 7 nights in Biarritz, 10 nights in Airdrie). All this on my 35 year old BMW K75. Before covid I did several trips to Morocco on the same bike, including to Merzouga (Sahara desert) and accross the top of the High Atlas mountains. Enjoy your biking!
You,re never too old Steve.Myself and my friend have been biking all over Europe from Ireland for the last 10 years,I,m nearly 68,my friend Frank nearly 76,Spain and Portugal again next year.....The only difference this time, owing to hip pain I have changed from a V-strom to a Piaggio mp3..It will be my first trip abroad on it......Go for it Steve....
Steve, age should only be a number! My wife and I, (both in our 70's) purchased a new BMW GSA in March this year and rode from Sheffield to Tetouan (Africa) in June this year - our first ever tour on a bike and have eaten out on the experience(s) ever since. There's nothing to go wrong and if it does it can always be put right. Just go for it and live life 😊
Superb, I went from Stirling to Portsmouth, then the ferry to Bilbao, a few years ago, solo. Met a guy on the ferry, asked if he fancied some company, he was delighted, so we rode to Madrid, took a hotel for the night then on to Fuengirola the following day. So this video brought back some great memories. Look out for radio blocking transmissions from military and other sources folks, it stops the signal from your key fob getting to your bike, and you can't start it !
Hi mate thanks for sharing your journey. Why not you only live once what a exciting journey your on just getting on your bike and just riding and exploring with all the time in the world I envy you. Looking forward to your videos stay safe ride safe and ENJOY 👍👍👍
Fair play, good man and keep her lit, I've been planning a trip to Morocco myself from Ireland, putting it on the long finger, I'm 61 now if im going to do it i may just get it done. Well done to you.
Been following your travels on fb Suzuki Vstrom Owners UK and pleased I have found your youtube channel. I have liked and subscribed to your channel and look forward to following your progress as Morocco is a country I have wanted to visit for the last 20 years but never managed it yet and I'm also a fellow Vstrom owner but mine is a lowly 650XT 👍
Bloody hell mate! Good on ya! 😎🏍️❤️ Nothing like setting off on a long journey on the bike. Enjoy every minute of it. Looking forward to the rest of this series
We remember riding off the ferry at Portsmouth we went to a B&B and spent the evening there. It took a bit to adjust to riding on left as we are from Canada. It was a wonderful part of our trip to Europe. The trip from Bilboa had been excellent. Thanks for sharing I will never forget the roundabout under the Freeway.
I Literally jumped off the sofa when I realised that you've got my old bike, 10 seconds in I'm looking with suspicion but seeing the numberplate on the ferry...... not its first time in Europe.
thank you for sharing such a fantastic video Ian, I wish I could go to Spain someday soon, I was so surprised you rode from Glasgow to the south well done to you

@@nealeburgess6756 Hello there! Just want to make sure that I have your name correct...Is it Ian or Neale? I'm really enjoying your videos and was curious what your next motorcycle journey will be? I'm 72 and was hoping to make it to the Spanish TET and or a trip from Tangiers to Merzouga. I remember that you mentioned riding to Merzouga on a past 🇲🇦 Morocco trip. Is it a trip that you would recommend even traveling solo? Thanks and take care! -Gary
In 2014 we took our 1250 fa to the algarve, where it stayed for 5 years, we did the ride in 3 days which on reflection was too long. We stopped at Salamca (spelling) for one night. We did intend to go to Morocco, but never made it, good luck and take it easy. Note that we were robbed in a petrol station in Spain, but the people threw our tank bag out of the window when a pump attendant stood in front of their car.
Looking forward to this adventure. Takes some guts to travel on your own. Surprised you didn't use the Plymouth Ferry which is only one night crossing and not that much further than Portsmouth from Helensburgh. Good luck for the upcoming trip
Great video mate, I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next one. I would have loved to have done what you're doing but alas I'm too old now.
Very nice! You mentioned envisioning John Wayne and the American west. Before you said that, I was ironically thinking of Clint Eastwood and the spaghetti westerns that were filmed mostly in Spain. The ferry looked fabulous!
Love the vid Ian. I know it’s a faff making videos but it really is fascinating. You’ve done a good job balancing the footage with commentary. I liked that at the end you gave a more thorough commentary too as it was very interesting, especially with the inserted photos and map. Keep showing your face in the videos, it makes the videos much more engaging. Keep up the great work, Noraly has competition now!
totally ruined video with another wantabe hollywood MTV music video maker. Stupid people with loud blaring music and no natural sounds. Music does not make the video Some videos out there where the people talk or natural sounds. These people make me crazy.
Very enjoyable video thank you. Made me think I could do it... perhaps! Subbed and looking forward to catching up with your content and following this journey.
Hi Ian. I did this trip last year from Killearn (not that far from you in Helensburgh): Plymouth, Santander, Malaga, Malilla, Marrakech, guided tour of Atlas and Sahara (with Wheels of Morocco), then Casblanca, Tangier ferry to Genoa, Tuscany for a wedding, back over the Stelvio, up to Amsterdam, Newcastle and hame. Have been swithering for a while on wether to jump on the bike and go again, then saw this. Might see you down there, you never know. Have a good one!
Nice. I rode 15000 km from Cape Town to Kenya and back on the Motoz gps tyre that you have. perfect tyre for the job. replaced my V-strom with a BMW only because there is a BMW dealer in every country in Africa should there be problems. Have a great trip.
Good for you, mate. Respect. I would have liked a GS for the trip, but if I’d bought one I couldn’t afford to make the trip - so I’m using the next best thing…
great journey. I live about two hours away from you in Tarbert, on a boat. I'll be traveling down to Spain in January for a couple of months, although that will be in my fiat 500. I've got a bike - BMW RNiNE T - but it needs registering with the DVLA (Imported from Jersey - I lived there in 2022). I hope the next leg goes well for you
Good man yourself South is good in winter. I often think we're caged to think to stay in one place while the weather moves. You go for it. I won't be long after you
Great journey -thanks for posting - I had plans to go in April but unsure what the “political climate” might be like after recent events so unsure. Ride Safe
Nice video. I look forward to seeing the rest of your journey. The ferry route you’re on seems very popular with bikers, I assume because it cuts out France. Ride safe.
There is nothing better than coming across an overland motorcycle blog in the earliest days of it! Look forward to following your adventure.
I love it!! I'm 75. I still ride. And I can totally relate. Big thumbs up!! Also looking forward to your episodes.

Last time on a ferry I spent hours watching the CCTV of dogs in they're transport cages. Compulsive watching.

You've never watched "Itchy Boot" or on her way, or on her bike. Women riders by themselves doing it all themselves. WOMEN!!! DUH. No big deal.
