    Thanks for this. Cramming for my RBT competency renewal. This is my third year, hoped I'd have this down by now but I blew the question on Shaping yesterday. Think I'm good now. Subscribing.

    This was a great video on shaping. I like how it was straight to the point. I am a BT going to get my RBT very soon after my competency exam. I love ABA so far. It's a good field to start off and gain more experience to where I would like to be which is becoming a BCBA. Any grad school suggestions in mind?
    Thank you for your video and be blessed.

      Hi there! We're so glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching! ABA is awesome, we're glad you think so too! There are a lot of schools with great programs. Some recommendations are: FIT, USF, Ball State, and Capella. Also, we recommend that you really research all different schools to find the best fit for you :)

      Hello, I am currently in online graduate school through the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. The program is very accommodating to students in and out of state. I highly recommend the program, it offers only evening classes 2-3 per semester for six semesters spring, summer and fall. Also, It is not bad considering pricing. Hope this helps!

    When teaching shaping in typical situation where progress is slow, how do you go about shaping overtime between sessions, especially if the student is not being taught the same shaping skills outside of ABA? Or if they are practicing outside of ABA, do you begin where you left off at the prior session, and then if it's correct move forward?

    • @allaboutaba1875
      @allaboutaba1875  3 роки тому +5

      That is a great question! Based on our experience, we typically set a mastery criteria for the mastery of each successive approximation that is leading up to the terminal behavior. For example, if our goal is to teach our client to cut his finger nails with nail clippers, and the first step is them tolerating the nail clippers sitting in front of them, then we would set a mastery criteria and they would have to meet that mastery criteria before they move on to the next step. An example of a mastery criteria could be "tolerates nail clippers sitting in from of them for at least 90% of opportunities across 3 sessions." Therefore, we wouldn't move on to the next step until that criteria for that successive approximation has been met.

    How about shaping in a classroom?

    • @allaboutaba1875
      @allaboutaba1875  Рік тому

      We can use shaping to shape up more appropriate communicative responses (e.g. raising hand instead of calling out, modeling using nice words with friends, etc.). You can also use shaping to teach academic skills, such as when teaching kids to write, you can reinforce "messier" writing and work your way up to only reinforcing "passing" writing work. Hope that helps!

    Is it ok to ask your therapist to say “can you do this?” Instead of just “do this”

    • @BrittnyShortcake
      @BrittnyShortcake Рік тому +1

      In aba training, the behavior therapist gives a command not a request. Using the phrase “can you” is asking the child if they can.
