    Some things that everyone has missed are that Z4M weighs in at 1485 kgs which is quite porky, whereas the Alpina is only 1320kgs, that is a difference of 165kg or 2 two of me!. That is another reason why handles better and is faster than the Z4M. If Porsche stripped out that much weight from a Boxster and fitted a hand built engine with forged pistons and a load of other racing mods, the world would be going mad for it

    This Alpina is immaculate, perfectly detailed and clearly in the right hands. One of the main attractions of this car is the ownership pleasure that comes with keeping it in the best possible condition, which this owner clearly does. I am not a fan of soft tops, but this is the very first I'd own in a heartbeat - and it would be a fabulous stablemate for my Z4 M Coupe, which would be my driving choice for a fang. The Alpina for more sedate trips with SWMBO :). Such a special and rare car.

    It's good to reflect on old YT videos. I was in the market to buy a Z4M Roadster last year, however I landed up buying an Alpina Roadster #98. What swung it for me were
    1: the looks wheels and body kit.
    2: no battery taking up precious boot space
    3: everyday compliant suspension and torque delivery from the engine.
    It may not be as track focused as the Z4M however in my eyes it's a better performance sports car in the real World. Yes both cars are special and true bargains. Another 👍🏻s up from me Joel.

    Alpinas are special!! What makes this one even more special is the fact that there was no alpina of the E89 and most certainly there won’t be one of the brand new Z4 due to limited demand nowadays..

      Z4 M Coupe and Roadster: possibly the last near-analogue BMW: NA engine, 6sp manual, hydraulic steering, mechanical LSD, ITBs - raw connected drive like no BMW since, and few peers in other brands. They're not making cars like this ever again - these are very rare, get 'em before they get too hot!

      Among the M's, Coupes tend to be more than the equivalent mileage roadster. The fairer comparison would be among m roadster to alpina roadster

    • @itsjoel

      @@Z4loorit There were 1052 RHD Z4 M Coupes built (all in Spartanburg, like all Z4 Ms). Not all came to UK, as some went to New Zealand (8 and I have one), Australia (103), South Africa and Japan, and possibly some other RHD markets. I think 578 came to UK (not confirmed). It's as rare as the Z3 M Coupe, and shares with that car, a very raw character - much more so than the E46 M3, and E60 M5. And that is part of its appeal along with rarity and unique styling.

    Hey Joel, I like your channel and I have subscribed to it. I do know what Alpina is but mainly because of the B7 & B6. I did not know that Alpina Z4 and probably never see one in person because I am in the United States (Texas). Although I do own a 2003 Z4 2.5 SMG transmission with 175,000 miles and owned it since 2005 (2nd owner). I love it and it's been trouble free (just normal maintenance).

    Run flats did come on the M cars, at least in the states. I just got an M Coupe a few days ago and the dealer tried to sell me run flats, and couldn't put anything else on the car, per corporate BMW's rules. Went down the street to a Big O and got some Pilot Sport 4's. Great car, and the Alpina one also looks amazing in its own way.

    • @itsjoel
      @itsjoel  4 роки тому +1

      Great choice

    • @Audidude
      @Audidude 4 роки тому +2

      Run flats are horrific on the Z4M Coupe (and I presume the Roadster also). Combined with the OEM suspension, the stiff sidewalls result in a crashing ride. Every little bump is exaggerated, and any big ones crash through like you are running on the rims! Believe me, I had some on a replacement set of rims bought second hand. Replacing them with Pilot Super Sports transformed the ride!

    • @Audidude
      @Audidude 4 роки тому

      @@itsjoel I'm almost certain that the Z4Ms never came with run flats. The ride cost on the M suspension was just too much!

    I love Alpina, my boss drives a Alpina B7 and that thing is dope!!! Unfortunately visually It just doesn't look all that different however the engine is an upgrade so right on! Google the numbers on the Z4 Coupes, Bmw made less than four thousand of them and of those four thousand 1500 of them were z4m Coupes the the remainder were 3.0 SI coupes. so in actuality the Coupes were even rarer than the roadsters.

    • @matahari555
      @matahari555 4 роки тому

      They sound all tinny because there is no soundproofing installed to save weight. If you want your door to go 'plop' rather than 'clunk' you can retro-fit soundproofing into your doors.
