This is the best video on complement I have seen. I'm not an immunologist or even a student. Just a librarian who is fascinated by the immune system. Thanks!
@@Fidel5555 I've always said, I'll stop learning maybe, just maybe three days after I'm dead. ;) No reason to not study various things, as knowledge is power. Back when I was in the Army (retired in 2010), I ran into not one, but two cases of pheochromocytoma. One was recognized late, the soldier was to begin treatment after field training, but expired from a ruptured AAA. The other, I pieced together what was going on, asked doctor to do me a favor and run a couple extra tests and there it was, he had pheochromocytoma. His problem was quickly addressed and he returned to duty. So, that trivia can and does save lives. Diagnosing things, just Boolean flow really. I do Boolean algebra and regular expressions in my head as part of my job. :) Annoyingly, basic math tends to give me trouble, but that's what calculators or if I had to, fall back to a slide rule is for.
couldn't agree more- coming from a physician/scientist who's heard many (attempted) explanations of complement systems. this is pure gold. never heard such a clear cut explanation
This was the best video I have ever watched about Complement system. Only someone who have left a few minutes left to cover this topic knows how fantastic this work is. Thank you Prof Dave.
This and similar courses makes things a lot easier to recognize hydrophobic parts and lipophilic parts of some carbon chains. That helps me understand some odd points in the pharmacology of some medications.
Professor Dave, I am an MS1(first year medical student) and my first block includes immunology. I wanted to say your videos including this complement protein video are more concise than the lectures from my immunology professor. Thank you!
you don't know how much you helped me understand this topic. i was on the verge of crying going through our readings but this video really clarified a lot of things (for some reason it seemed like our lecturers were also speaking a whole different language while teaching this). thank you so much!
This is really excellent. Also the speed at which you speak is perfect for people who are trying to understand something, other videos I have to pause and re listen because they’re talking too fast, but this is perfect!
This is by far the most clear yet comprehensive breakdown of these pathways that I have seen. Thank you so much, you just tied together so many loose ends from days of studying!
Thank you so much for this. In my role as a medical writer, I have been doing some programs on paroxysmal nocturnal hematoglobinuria, which is a disease of the complement cascade. This clearly explained a lot of the things I was confused about.
This has been really helpful. I've been struggling to understand the complement cascade but with how you've laid everything out, I'm subliming.. .. Thank you so much
I'm so glad that you're making these lectures. I considered months ago that the US population (from high school and up) needs to learn how the immune system works. If we know how the immune system works then we will all understand and agree on something like a vaccine. Thank you for spreading this information.
Indeed, the problems with COVID seems to be that leukocytes are being infected, interfering with their response, while innate responses are also being blunted. By the time the immune system notices that the infection was unaddressed, it went into scorched earth mode (to oversimplify it by a lot) and that's the cytokine storm of COVID-19 and the Spanish Flu.
I used to watch your videos way back in high school for AP bio and your videos are still carrying me as a first year medical student lmaooo. Could not have made it where I am today without you
@Professor Dave Explains, I have come to purchase your book through my enjoyment of your UA-cam content. I must say that I find it very insightful, succint and a refreshing read overall. I look forward to more from you, as you definitely posess great talent. P.S.: on page 18 there is a helium atom representation with the subtext implying that it is in colour, when in fact at least my edition is grayscale. Just a (hopefully) helpful note.
Hey, really like your videos, especially the ones where you debunk conspiracy theories. I recently saw something about Tesla's radiance energy curcuit. It is suggestet that this would be able to supply everybody with free energy but companies dont want us to know about it because we should pay for their energy. Maybe that could be a video idea. Keep on the great work!
I am a licensed medical technologist and I'm studying for my second license this coming October. Complement system always ALWAYS aggravate the shit out of me. This lecture gave me atleast an idea what to remember 😅
This is the best video on complement I have seen. I'm not an immunologist or even a student. Just a librarian who is fascinated by the immune system. Thanks!
Wow! You've inspired me...I'm a medical student and find this stuff boring yet you're not even a student but study immunology voluntarily, congrats

@@Fidel5555 same this is the class I’m hating the most so far but I think it’s mostly bc my prof is absolutely awful
Beautiful ❤

This makes re-reading my immunology textbook nearly painless. Lovely stuff you have.

no words. simplistic way to teach complex theory with best illustrations. thank you. Best video on this topic.
I really don't know how my Med School would be without you sir 😭🙏❤️🔥. A Big thanks to you for making my life easy

dude you just cleared the evolutionary aspect of the complement system, great job👍🏻
Very detailed and direct illustration and description. Learn more from these lectures. Thanks a lot.
Very comprehensive with just enough detail for competence but not too overwhelming!
Thank you soooo much, seriously! After studying medicine for 4 yrs i did not just learn it by heart, but understood it
I have an immunology test next week for my first year of grad school--this has been SO much more helpful than anything my professor has said!
This has been really helpful. I've been struggling to understand the complement cascade but with how you've laid everything out, I'm subliming..
.. Thank you so much
Just on time for my quiz on this topic!
I really appreciate the evolutionary context. Really outs things into better perspective!
Hey Professor, I understand almost everything you explain so please start makin videos about music theory and all. You're the best teacher ever.
He knows alot about the SCIENCE stuff, unfortunately music theory is not a science.
Great video. I am a pharmacist trying to help my patients with Long Covid and appreciate the excellent education here.

You are so spot on! If more people understood immunology, we would haver far fewer ridiculous conspiracy lies circulating about vaccines!
I had no idea where all these complement proteins came from, but you simplified it really well for me.
Professor Dave.... This video is great. It helped me understand the video much better.
Easy but comprehensive lecture. the best of the best to me.
Thank you so so so much! Amazing explanation and illustration! Thank you for your effort.
I used to watch your videos way back in high school for AP bio and your videos are still carrying me as a first year medical student lmaooo. Could not have made it where I am today without you
email me a video summarizing this in 10-20 seconds for my upcoming 10th anniversary video!
Saw so many videos.. But finally got clarity in this one
it was great. thank you, i really had a problem undrestanding complement system but you made it so easy to undrestand.
Your videos are so helpful to me, thank you🙏🏻
