This just kinda confirms what ive always thought. She never wanted to be a rapper, she just wanted to be famous and decided to use rap as a vehicle. She's either got to improve at her craft or find another way to get famous

When your first 4 singles all sound the same, why would the audience be enticed to buy the album? We already know how it’s gonna sound😂 Not surprised by this at all
I was really hoping Ice Spice's Y2K album would dive deeper into the essence of what Y2K actually represents. The Y2K era wasn't just about fashion and aesthetic; it was a cultural moment marked by the excitement and anxiety of a new millennium, tech fears, and a wave of experimental music that pushed boundaries. Sadly, this album missed the mark by focusing more on surface-level nostalgia rather than exploring the depth of the era. It feels like a missed opportunity to truly connect with the fans who expected something more meaningful. Instead, it almost comes across as a disservice to those who wanted a genuine throwback to that iconic time, leaving us with an album that’s more style than substance.
She literally just called it Y2K because her birthday is January 1st 2000. Because she announced the title so far ahead of time she had people wondering if it meant something more than that. But the title was just that, the title. It doesn't have anything to do with the album. It's just her birthday. The tracks are just the same stuff she's been putting out since the beginning.
You expected all that from someone who didn’t even consciously experience the time period? She became a functioning kid at the start of 2010. What was she gonna extrapolate for you? 🤔😑
drake literally has made a career off leeching other artists - it's crazy. check what he did to the weekend if you don't know. he always hits up new rising artists and tries to check if they actually have writing talent, and if they do, get them to write his songs for him for basically free, then he owns the songs. very predatory behavior.
I charge Nicki Minaj and all the old heads that gassed her for making this Ice Spice bullshxt go on for longer than it needed to. I remember when Munch dropped, and everyone listened to it ironically, knowing it was a bad record. The same is true for Bikini Bottom. I can't speak on anything else she dropped after that; I didn't listen to any of it because I love myself. But the veterans should have called her out on her lack of talent. I'm sick of them always jumping on the hypetrain instead of standing on business -- it decreases the quality of the music in the game.
@@KilayaJennings This is why it's important to stand on business and hold on to your principles. People are always going to talk shxt, it can't be helped. What can be helped is whether people see you chasing trends at the expense of your credibility. Ice Spice was never going to stick around long. Nicki would have survived the hate. But now we see her for who she is -- a trend chaser who doesn't care about the quality of the "artists" she co-signs. This is a shameful stain on her legacy.

Like HOW is this brand new person already invited to the exclusive MET? Kim K couldn’t even get in until Kanye brought her as his +1 and she had been famous for years at that point. She collabed with huge names like Nicki and Taylor and was on the mega Barbie movie before she’d even released an album… she never earned her stripes but was getting way more than people who had been in the game for longer and produced much more. It was clear she was and is a plant.
@nadecha5326 no, red isn't a plant at all. Even though she's ass, you can see her progression in music and why she got big. Plus, she's a fair entertainer, and people like her humorous and ratchet tone

For rappers like🧊🌶️, it’s not really about the music, it’s treated more like ‘content’ than ‘art’. The music is the ‘loss leader’ in order to get to the REAL money: the brand deals. The music may not sell like that, but all you have to do is get a mildly trending hit or two (every 2 years or so), and you can continue to leverage your“influence”as a trending recording artist to secure 6-figure, 7-figure, and eventually 8-figure brand deals. THAT’s what pays the bills and recoups at the label, *not the music.* In a time before 360 deals, a lot of these rappers would’ve been dropped from their label a long time ago bc they don’t sell records like that. 😅
Excellent take. Branding deals are increasingly something that labels prefer to cultivate since the art itself does not generate the same revenue in the digital era as it did pre-digital (excluding CDs as a digitized format in this statement, for the sake of my point, although CD is technically digital).
I remember when artists would just fizzle out and their demise wasn’t documented 😂 I really wish these mini documentaries were around when Hurricane Chris came out
Ice told her team she just watched Ms. Americana, Taylor's documentary and said how much she respected her. Spice's team called Taylor's and said Ice loves Taylor and would love to work with her if she is ever interested. Ice is changing the story in every interview. She goes back and forth on if her team called Taylor or Taylor called her. Taylor's team returned Ice's teams called and said sure. Taylor's favorite genre besides hers is rap. Taylor would not have called her, but once they worked together, they did become friends.
Ngl I don’t think the texts about Nicki Minaj really were a big deal to anyone who isn’t an obsessive Barbz. From what we’ve known about Nicki’s personality - from instagram live rants, treating other female rappers like crap, supporting sexual predators etc. , Ice Spice made the right decision to keep her distance and I can definitely see Nicki not being grateful that a younger female rapper reached out and thought of her.
Ice used Nicki. Ice wouldn’t have blown up as big if it weren’t for Nicki and barbz army. Ice is a snake. Only thing that should’ve come out her mouth was praise and appreciation for Nicki. Nicki was pissed. Takes a lot for cardi and Nicki to agree on something, but they agree ice is a bitch 😂
but when cardi went on a 9 minute coke rant about Nicki and threw a shoe at her over a fake tweet and tells people to k!ll themselves she’s not a bad person? also ice spice other bestfriend is exposing her for being a shit friend . ice spice isn’t a girls girl either she’s evil asf too .
I hate to say it but distancing personal Nicki from work Nicki those texts were bad. Nicki co signed ice-helping boost her further on the map to everyone’s radar. It’s said Barbie asked Nicki first, Barbie is one of Nicki’s alters-if Barbie really asked Nicki first why would she really have to feel “grateful” that ice brung it back up and around to her? That doesn’t make any real sense. Yall never heard of not shitting where you sleep? Not biting the hand that feeds (fed) you? The way the texts were, it was bad on ice’s end either way. You can’t call evb ungrateful including someone who boosted you, seemingly not even talk to them abt it, not talk to them until when you want when it benefits you again, on top of talking abt them “in a moment” behind their back badly. It also just doesn’t make sense why Nicki someone whose been a music vet had ice spice “bring her” something one and jump for joy and kiss ass like she really needed too either. Yall don’t feel the need to like Nicki bc of what you caught of her personally and that’s fine but taking out all that so it’s not applied in situations like this usually works so much better.
My main beef with ice spice is that she had a minor dancing sexually in one of her music videos that is still up on UA-cam to my knowledge. And people have already pointed this out and she never addressed it. My opinion of her tanked after that.

In a sea of circle jerking, this is an actually measured response.
She literally just called it Y2K because her birthday is January 1st 2000.
Because she announced the title so far ahead of time she had people wondering if it meant something more than that.
But the title was just that, the title. It doesn't have anything to do with the album. It's just her birthday.

It was clear she was and is a plant.

True, in this social midia era u just need one hit to get famous and make 7-8 figures without music.
Excellent take. Branding deals are increasingly something that labels prefer to cultivate since the art itself does not generate the same revenue in the digital era as it did pre-digital (excluding CDs as a digitized format in this statement, for the sake of my point, although CD is technically digital).
Agree!
this is why so many famous artists start releasing less music when they become more famous than when they first hit the scene!

Agreed, what she said was completely fair
but when cardi went on a 9 minute coke rant about Nicki and threw a shoe at her over a fake tweet and tells people to k!ll themselves she’s not a bad person? also ice spice other bestfriend is exposing her for being a shit friend . ice spice isn’t a girls girl either she’s evil asf too .

@@iloveicecoldwater I think more examples of industry plants would be people like Jack Harlow who I also like and kid laroi, usually they have industry connections already just like billies parents are actually already wealthy and been in the industry for awhile , Jack Harlowe is pretty much the same kinda plant that iggy azealia was and also Tyla and I hate to say Cardi b but it was obviously they used her as well, but yes usually industry plants are already artist who do music , even ice for example, even though she had only started like a year before she blew up she also had industry connections through her producer riot. The labels just choose them becsuse of their marketability like how Tyla and Ice look racially ambiguous and more then one audience can relate to her. Usually it doesn’t mean they don’t deserve it and also the label controls the kinda music they make which is why you have people like Ice Spice making a whole album with the same kinda songs.
