Rabbi Simcha Hochbaum talks about the sin of the Golden Calf and how a sincere celebration of the Sabbath can become a Tikkun.

Shalom my friends, Simcha Hochbaum of Hebron standing outside the Maarat Machpela. This Shabbat, Am Yisrael falls from the greatest revelation, the greatest moments of grandeur of God giving us the Torah, to the terrible, terrible sin of the golden calf.
It was bad enough that we forgot Hashem, bad enough we served the golden calf and dancing around the golden calf.
    וירא את העגל ומחלת
The second that God saw that Am Yisrael was dancing around the golden calf, that's when Moshe Rabeinu took the tablets and smashed them into pieces but Hashem doesn't leave us without a medicine, without a fixing, without a healing process.
Right before the sin of the golden calf the Torah records and tells us about the mitzvah of Shabbat. And although we already received we see that commandment, in the Ten Commandments, and yet the Torah repeats the mitzvah of observing Shabbat.
Here it says Laasot Et HaShabbat. It's not enough just to guard the Shabbat, to refrain from violating the 39 melachot and the 39 different works and prohibitions of Shabbat. But one has to La’asot.
Laasot Et HaShabbat means to enjoy the bliss of Shabbat, to engage in Shabbat as a covenant between us and Hashem as a special relationship and as a special connection.
When a Jew is able to Laasot Et HaShabbat completely immersed himself in the joy and the bliss and rejoice in it and set aside Shabbat as a day of spirituality, a day of neshama, a day of soul then he could even take the worst in the world of Avoda Zara and he could be forgiven for it.
Shabbat is also the same letters of Tashuv, to return. We should be privileged this Shabbat, parshat Ki Tisa to take all those broken tablets of the Jewish nation.
Since the war, so many soldiers have fallen, so many families are broken, so many tears have been shed. We should be able to take the broken tablets and to lift up the head of Am Yisrael, to lift up the pride of the Jewish people. And Be’ezrat Hashem, in the zehut of Shabbat we should be privileged to the Geulah Shaleimah, the ultimate redemption.
