- An update of the build of my n-gauge model railway. In this video I share some tips and tricks on:
* Laying flexible track
* Installing dropper wires.
* Installing inclined sub-roadbed
* Wiring up point motors and controllers
* Labelling cables.
So impressed by the carpentry skill and the neatness of all the wiring - modelling at a whole new level. Thanks for sharing. Shall enjoy catching up on all videos; will learn a lot.

When using table saw lower the blade so the teeth just clear the thickness of the wood being cut. Having it so high is dangerous. Sorry to lecture but better safe than sorry. Nice layout though 👍
you are so right! I am terrified everytime I turn it one. I do often have the guard in place, but sometimes it comes off. Mist important thing I have found to to have thought through the movements for every cut, right up to the point of safely turning off the saw, before I start.
Nice build. Very tidy cable work.
I notice though you solder droppers to the side of the rails. I know a lot of people do this, but I'm not a fan of that practice.
For my layout, I've soldered the droppers under the rails, cutting off the sleeper plastic under the rail first and all before gluing the track down. Takes a little forward planning for where your droppers are going to be, but soldering them underneath the rail makes them completely invisible after ballasting.

On the droppers - yes attaching to the underneath of the rail would be even better. I think the reason I do not do it is because I am worried about how the curves cause the rail to slide through the webbing. So if I attach a dropper before fixing the track in place I will not have enough play to get the curve correct. I am not sure the best approach to this, and because I have lots of other areas to learn I am pleased just to get some track down and wired up.
To be honest, all the track I have laid so far will be hidden (it is a basement staging yard) so it does not need to look good. But I need to improve my skills before I start laying the tracks in the scenic sections. I do however attach droppers to the underside of the rails when I am laying points. I think I have a video somewhere showing my approach to point laying.

Slowly but surely getting through some of your other videos, very enjoyable and quite pertinent to what I’m doing too. Great track plan by the way, same as me in some ways, I wanted the trains to appear to go somewhere👍
I know what you mean about the track plan. what I have realise through doing it is that if you want to create an illusion of a track going somewhere then you need to use tight curves once it is out of view, which is not always a good idea.
The table saw blade should NEVER protrude more than 3/8" above the material being cut !!!
