- From arcade game to simulation in 6 laps:
Grand Prix Circuit, Accolade (1988)
Grand Prix 1, Microprose (1992)
Grand Prix 2, Microprose (1995)
PowerF1, Eidos (1996)
F1 2000, EAsports (2000)
F1 Challenge 99-02, EAsports (2003)
This video is 10 years old wtf. I expected F1 2018 to be in it.
UA-cam decided to recommend the video now lol
@@AhmedMRagb lol ikr
Yt is retarded
Wait what!?
bruhhh me too
Grand Prix 2 is superb for its age
Grand Prix 2 was epic. This guy sucked at racing but untill F1 1997 there was no better game on the market.
Still my favorite, the sound of the car, hitting the curbs, shifting, it all sounded more 'real' somehow.
I couldnt run it on my 486 100mhz :/
reds005 Who used GPeditor to update cars and drivers? You could make cars super fast also haha.
you were probably a noob, it was OK with a 486 100mhz
Those Microprose games are really impressive for their time.
ElBloeTigre Yeah!
They also made all of the Falcon simulators, an iteration of which is still popular today, known as Falcon BMS. All of their games were waaayyy ahead of their time.
Microprose was THE company when it came to simulators.
I remember playing Gunship back on the Commodore 64. Looks like balls today, but back then something like that was unheard of. Loaded off a cassette and took like 45 minutes to load. Good times :D
I think they also did Silent Service, which was also just in a different league compared to games of the era.
My dad had the f1 sim and also a flying sim in these giant boxes with like 8 diskettes in 'em. I was a tiny kid back then but Those inspired my simracing things,
Like Sniper: Ghost warrior 3
the guys at micropose were fucking genius.
gp2 is easily better than the next game displayed in every aspect and it puzzles me how the hell did that game run on the weak hardware we had at the time. seriously, genius. as old as that game is, it still holds up.
+GraveUypo still never found a driving game that gave a better feeling
true
I still got the original
I must put 300 hours into GP1 when I was 3 to 8 years old. That game was insane. Used to forget to blink and have to use eyedrops to keep racing.
When GP2 came out, I believe it was the first ever game that used GPS to make the tracks as accurate as possible. Compared to any other F1 game, it was in another league.
GP2, probably the best F1 game ever created. Geoff Crammond is simply a genius!
Grand prix legends is better
@@ivoire2000 lol, no just no 🤣🤣
@@spinmaestrogaming I'm still playing with GPL. GP2 is dead^^
@@ivoire2000 GP2 isn't dead. There's still an active community updating the game
@@FloosWorld_AoE Really?? Can you give me some sites?
Microprose F1GP really stands the test of time. Geoff Crammond is a genuine genius!
The original Grand Prix and GP2 still looks the boss. Happy memories.
Thank you Geoff Crammond!!!
Eau Rouge ;
ABSOLUTELY !!!!!
Yes microprose f1 was excellent as well.
Sir Geoff :)
the first game sound made me have an epileptic attack.
+David Auster ;_; ... i think it brake my ears...
+David Auster Still better than gran turismo tho
+james lapointe hahaha so true!!!
It's better than the engine sounds in 2015-2016.
David Auster Same. My head almost blowed up
Grand Prix Circuit, Accolade (1988)
was brilliant for its time. It had manual gearbox, collisions, wear on tires, pit stops and drifting. Had a blast playing it as kid.
The first engine makes a better noise than modern F1!
ya it sounds intense
TikTakTak never been to a race then..
Hahaha.
I thought your comment was funny until I went back to the video and listened to it again.
Then I nearly pissed myself laughing!
Man, did I hear the engine blow up often, even before the red lights were off. 4 year old me had no clue of the meaning of a clutch.
Oh just fuck off.
Geoff Crammonds F1GP2 - by far the best formula one game ever and i still play it to this day!
Revs on the BBC Micro is rather good.
The 1988 game sounds like 2015 V6 engines
That could be because they were V6 turbos as well ;)
911gp Well, Twin Turbo GT-Rs, and we all know that R35s are computers.
If GT-Rs are computers, then what are Teslas?
Erik M. AI
Macs
I loved playing Grand Prix 2. Was a fantastic game in the mid 90s.
Grand Prix 2, Microprose (1995) kicked ass!!
And also gave me my myopia at 19.6 fps.
Welp.
1996
From these 6, i personally think GP2 was the best one :)
+Sponge1310 Ever played F1 Challenge 99-02?
+Luiz Ronaldo Merelles Severino that was my first f1 game
yeah! gp2 is nice but f1 ch 9902 is better even than gp4 when talking about phisics; tracks are the best in gp4, made by gps, only actual lasser scanned tracks could be better than that
I actually thought this video was gonna be 15 years long.
Petter Andersson same
Petter Andersson I know right? This is a click bait!
Interesting. Well, you never know.
Lmaooo😂😂😂
Me too I'm decepcioned
Microprose still own the best F1 and Golf games ever made.
GP2 was and still is the most awesome formula 1 game . its 2019 now and i m still playing it when i got time.
3rd vid looks way better than the 4th
Hless421 Definitely
Grand Prix 2 was an awesome game
Grand Prix 2 was amazing!
Grand Prix Circuit, Accolade (1988) --> there was cpu driver called "joe sacramento" i still can remember this guy lol
microprose's gran prix 1 wal unbelivable at that time, incredible graphics and gameplay
Grand Prix 2, Microprose - the best one!
I have all the Geoff Crammond stuff, original, piece of computer history, and played them all, remembers...
Unbelievable that this video was made 11years ago. 11 🤯🤯
my childhood!!!! I remember this was the first game it was installed on my 286... good old childhood memories... thousands of hours passed playing this amazing game! Thanks for posting it!
MICROPROSE GRANDPRIX THE REAL SIMULATION!!!!
God I loved GP2. Was such a good game back in the day. I remember playing it for hours, and hours.
F1-GP2 Forever!
The physics in Grand Prix 1 looked very impressive for its age.
GP2 was and still is awesome
I had both F1 2000 and F1 Challenge 99-02 and they were awesome games and had excellent sounds and visuals for the time. I could still go back and play these.
Geoff Crammond what a legend. Those games are 22 years old & still playable now. Doesn't matter how good the graphics are, it has to have the right 'feel' & Grand Prix 2 definitely had that. From what I can remember you could turn the graphics down (background stuff) to make the game even smoother. Lost many hours playing that. Great times. Wonder if it would run on my Windows 10 PC as I'd still like to play it.
still have and play GP4...started with GP2 for my bro and I.
How do you get GP 4 to work with windows 10?
Oh man, grand prix 2. I've played that game for so many hours in my youth. Was at the time one of the best racing games.
I played the first one as a kid. Bruno Gordo would always ram you off the road, and Nigel Livings would always come last. True fact
Yeah! Bruno Gourdo and Travis Daye are the best pilot. I like Tsukami Sakamoto but was the worst driver with Nigel Levings
Microprose GP3 had dynamic weather, with changing track conditions, and different weather in different parts of the track. It was developed 20 years ago. Let that sink in.
And still it has the best weather system along with GP4
I've spent countless hours on GPC, GP1, GP2, I had Power F1, but it sucked, it had nice graphics for the time, although it looked more painted then rendered. Never liked EA sports F1 series, but played it a lot also, specially because of the mods for 99-02. Played GP3 alot... GP4 also. every one had its good and bad things... GPC, I could play on my C-64 with keyboard, GP1 was whole new world of f1 racing sims, GP2 was fantastic, needed great pc to be run on full details and full frame rate, i played it in VGA mode mostly because of the better frame rate. GP3 had dynamic weather and wheel was moving! :) GP4 was nice because of the updated drivers and graphics but physical model was not good, cars were looking as they were floating over the track...
Around the time this video was released I was 8 years old watching Massa winning the Brazilian GP and celebrating after the race was ended, but then Hamilton passed Glock at the last seconds becoming the world champion. I was sad because Massa was from my country but that was an awesome season.
Time flies.
Looks like GP2 ismthe best, followed by GP1.
LOVE this video! Great insight into the history of F1 games! :D
this is like if it was made now the title would be 6 laps at Monza in 21 years...
It'd be 26 years.
should be 26 laps for 26 years
Now 30 years
Grand Prix Circuit (1988) was the first game I've ever played with my dad and Grand Prix 2 was the first game I've played on my own first PC... Such great memories of great racing games!
6:06 Formula EAR-RAPE!
Grand Prix Circuit Accolade was well ahead of it's time. I can remember being enthralled by it at the time.
Pity you left out the best of that era (GP3/4).
thanks for the videos it brings back memories :)
1:10 I didn't remember a chicane in the parabolica.
yeah, I remember that chicane when I played the game as a kid, but I can't find any evidence it was ever there in real Monza
So, I'm Italian and I've seen the Monza circuit many times and there aren't any chicane on the parabolica and there has never been
Who cares it's the best game in the world...
Luca Malvicini chicanes*
Likely the game code could only handle one gradient of corner, so they had to go back the other way a bit to make it a longer corner :)
Grand Prix Circuit by Accolade is my personal favorite for entirely sentimental reasons. Never warmed to the Microprose series in the same way...
the downshifts in that second game sound more realistic than gran turismo 6
Say that again.
You do know that that comment is 5 yo right?
At least gt sport was better
great compilation, thanks for making it!
i´m drunk and im lovin it
Used to play Grand Prix 2 all day long in my childhood. The game was insanely good for it's time, and the damage was insanely well made. The game really felt like you were driving in Formula 1.
Ok, i looked at this and i'm a very old man... sigh...
that was one of the most intresting videos ive ever seen, great work=)
Too bad Grand Prix 3 and Grand Prix 4 aren't in this!
yeah gp4 was one of the best
Gp4 was great but GP3 was dreadful. GP2 was literally better.
Off the ones shown in this video, GP2 also seems the best
Gotta love the sounds of F1 2000!
I played them all, and still have some of them...
And still keep on rollin in PS4!!
I'm very old!!
LoL
you're not the only one I've still got a few of the old ones as well.
Great video, this!
Was good fun, seeing GP1 gameplay again.
Gp2 rocks!!!
Well done!
A great compilation and representative of the technical progression over the years.
I have, incidentally, ALL of those sims in my collection (plus several others, including the classic Grand Prix Legends) and have just recently reinstalled GP2 onto an old W98 laptop.
Nothing like a trip back in time. :)
and now it's 25 years... Omagad
The best F1 game I ever had was Grand Prix 2 by Geoff Crammond. Hands down the best F1 game of all time.
0:02 ahh v6 turbos just dont sound like they used to
flick between the first and last clips, amazing how things have changed
nice vid
GP2
the best !!
absolutely, it has the best atmosphere which easily surpass every other F1 game. I played it a lot when I was a kid
try watching the last one and suddenly swith to the 1st one.. i laugh so hard, maybe its the sound effects. try
That's the first ever F1 game i played, and trust me; it's BETTER than 1 or 2 in that list (certainly not the worst!).
I was born in 1996 but we only had an old computer so my first gaming experiences were with very simple games such as the 1988 F1 here :) Quite happy about that. It was not until I was 9 we got ps2 to the house and I got to feel the modern era.
where's the best, though? Grand Prix 3!
I thought this was a new video. It just got recommended to me. I was waiting for the newer games to show up :D
This difference between 1 and 2😅😅😅
By far the best simulation from this era, concerning the opponents etc., was GP4 (2002, uses the 2001 season). I play it EVERY DAY (without external addons etc., I just set the resolution in the setup file to 2560x1600 for my 30" LCD and its WONDERFUL). Coincidentally, Monza is my track of choice (done all the other tracks as well, but I have over 300,000 laps at Monza in GP2-GP3-GP3 2000-GP4 since 1996, when GP2 was published in our country - more than a FULL RACE DISTANCE A DAY FOR 14 YEARS).
first one is made by microsoft paint xD
+Christian Salami F1 Grand Prix Circuit by Accolade was my childhood racing game though. Fucking destroy Bruno Gourdo
the grand prix 2 is thr best f1 game EVER
this game is a very important part of my childhood.
the SOUNDS and the music are A M A Z I N G!!!!!
Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 1 to 4 series is still the best F1 game ever, just a work of art.
I've not come a 'sim' racer game since where toiling at setup was worth the trouble.
Good job with the pixeled sound of the first game, very creative 👌 congratulations for them👏
loved this so much lol ... with the exception of the first game it's crazy to see how accurate they all are for the time
thank you geoff crammond for hours of pure genuine fun
Absolutely love this video, I remember playing every one of these titles. Very fast from what is considered sim nowadays.
GP2 is by far my favorite F1 game.Played that game so much.
Played countless hours of Grand Prix 2 in the mid to late 90s, still a better game than most of its early 2000’s rivals.
Grand Prix 1, was an amazing game, i remember visiting a friend from time to time, just to test that game. I found it a bit difficult on the keyboard cause i was used to my console pad handling, in other racing games. Nice vid.
great video. good to see the evolution in the development of video games over the years.
YT, thank you very much for recommending this to me in 2019
omg GP2 ... Played that game way too much :) I think this is still the best F1 sim I've ever played!
8bit sound is absolutely rad!
16 bit
GP2 was my first real computergame.. loved it !! it was so awesome :D
I kind of expected Grand Prix Legends from 99' to be in there...that was an amazing F1 Sim, a shame it only focused on the 67' season
Childhood memories...thanks for this video!
NOOO, GPC, what a nostalgy! I played with it over 15 years ago, with black&white laptop and than with one of the first pc coloured... I miss that times, I had yet to begin the school....
grand prix 2 still the best racing game
I've followed the Geoff crammond grand prix games from grand prix 2 right up to grand prix 4 and it hey are simply epic games. Even as far back as 2 it had atmosphere in buckets. The new games owe everything to these creations.
The original F1GP, the second game you feature here, is the definitive F1 game. I spent hours on it back in the early 1990s.
GP1 was a billion years ahead of its competitors for ages! GP2 was the first sim to replace GP1 at the ABSOLUTE TOP, but that was like a century later! In GP1, you could actually have fun racing! Of course the opponents were not at GP4 level, but if you were seriously into lap times, GP1 already provided nearly all the fun you can have!
Grand Prix 2 by Microprose did a pretty good job back in the day! It's more realistic than PowerF1 which came out after.
Nice video showing how gaming tech has evolved over the years.
Grand Prix 2 was an epic game in the middle 90s.
