Eliza, as Alexander called her, became quite a business woman in that she helped women and children get back on their feet after their husbands died. She was an amazing woman!
@Allison Sheehan True. One in Saratoga, another in Albany, one called Schuyler Flats. His mother was a Van Cortlandt and her family had a number of houses in the lower Hudson Valley along with 83,000 acres of land.
I went there several years ago and what a place it is. Ive been on many tours related to the Revolution and the tour here has really stood out. I’d say behind the tour of Major General Nathanael Greene Homestead, this was a close second.
Julia Klaassen Philip the father in law, not Philip the son. I literally said that Eliza lost her husband and her father in the same year. She lost her son, Philip, three years earlier
Eliza lost her Sister (Peggy/Margarita), Phillip (Son), Her Husband and Father within 4 years (Her son died 6 months after Peggy died, that is why she is already wearing black before Phillip's death).
Lovely, thank you for sharing, Just an idea, maybe have the background music not so loud. Unfortunately for me personally it took away the historical emotions as the music wasn't relevant and loud.
demigodasset , yeah but I’d never even heard of them until I researched my family tree and saw I was directly related to the Schuyler and Van Cortlandt families from New York. I’m British
My family mostly comes from France and French Canadian and I always wonder if one of my family members met (forgot to spell his name) But it would of be very cool
Sometimes I wonder if an actual group or raid has gone to Trinity church or this mansion to like sing the skuyler sister or who lives who dies who tells your story. I would do it. But i dont know if its even allowed to make that kind of noise in those areas giving that its historic.
For calling itself a magazine--implying professional production--this camera-work is very disappointing; camera moves too fast to see any details and the lighting seems not to be considered.
It's fine to me it's an old house the lighting won't be consistent and in my opinion it's not to fast but even if it was what can you expect they probably didn't want to make it too long. Cant you just appreciate getting to see this beautiful home and being told all about the history
@@kathycullenstern9652 Actually, the house was sold after Philip Schuyler's death, and then sold again. When that third owner died, his widow married Fillmore. The Schuylers and the Fillmores may not have known each other at all. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuyler_Mansion

Its amazing how a musical brought most of us here
Really? I have never seen the musical.
Can you tell I am being sarcastic?
Not all of us, some of us have actually studied and know history, like Alexander Hamilton wasn’t a PR
So true

So, wait. Philip died in 1804? That means Eliza lost her husband and her father in the same year. That’s heartbreaking.
No, Philip died in 1801, Alexander three years later

Would have liked to have seen an exterior view of the front of the house
why aren't we addressing his hat?
I’m a direct descendent or the Schuyler family and would love to find out more information about them

Omg I wanna see this place now where is it at
Albany, New York
Albany ny the pastures Catherine street
I love historical locations.
Question: was the parlour only for formal use, as is sometimes the case? If so, where did the family gather when they were just en famille?
Usually yes parlors are only for reception. In a lot of historical homes, family members shared beds, so there wasn’t always “family time”. Hah
very distracting music
One question.
*Why is there no bathroom*
I know I knew Hamilton the musical from the songs and I was tried of hearing it but then I started getting into the songs I liked it more 😁
Where is the chip in the staircase where peggy got a tomahawk thrown at her
I read it was Kitty was the target of the tomahawk as she was running up the stairs with her grandchild.
And Peggy!!!
Only people from Buffalo, New York remembers Millard Fillmore.

I actually made a video at this house, it's on my UA-cam page, called "Colonial Christmas". Great video, I subscribed
Is everything untouched from the 18th century?
No. He said while in the first room that there we families who lived there after them

this isn't related to the schuylers, but i'm a descendent of aaron burr's daughter, theodosia
Why would Fillmore be married here
My question too. His wife is from a town a little north of there. Maybe she knew the owners or maybe her family owned the home then.
