I have the exact same engine and model since the beginning (I took off plastic oil change yellow thing and attached tube with metal twist off so it’s easy now) and it’s been ok for price point - make sure u grease the front wheels and chassis yearly!
I'm glad I found your channel! My local mower repair shop said I needed 2.5 quarts! I just put in two full courts and check the oil in them a little bit above already.
Why do you think putting a simple 3/8" tube on the plug before turning valve on is "silly"??? That I do believe is the exact reason it was designed as it is.... I don't see how adding a dollar worth of tubing for a clean oil change would be considered "silly"??? 🤔🤔
Thanks for the comment. The whole set up is silly because it leaks oil; at least mine does. The valve is not tight and you cannot get at the threaded flange end to tighten it up enough to keep it from leaking at the engine block. I understand Cub's thinking to make oil changes more "user friendly" for people without mechanical abilities, but it was too cheap of a "fix." The solid pipe with an elbow and a plug will eliminate all oil leaks here.
It’s much harder to pull the spring on when the deck is attached to the mower versus by itself. The wheel gets in the way and it’s impossible to generate enough leverage on the spring to reattach it. At least it was for me. I wish you had videoed that part as well because the one you referenced was with the deck by itself.
While I appreciate these videos, it just grinds me how not one person ever says how much oil goes in during an oil change. Even the manual doesn't say. Do I put two quarts in or one quart. Someone told me just 32 ounces goes in but no one can tell me for sure
Tractor Data is a helpful website to reviews specs on most lawn/garden tractors. Here's the link for my LTX1050 with 24 hp Kohler engine. As you can see, it lists the oil capacity at 1.9 quarts: www.tractordata.com/lawn-tractors/001/1/7/1172-cub-cadet-ltx-1050-engine.html

Thanks for the info. With old equipment, the grease gun seldom rests!

Have you got a video on how to reattach that spring?
In this video at 22:24, I show an easy way to re-attach the spring:
