    I have a setup for schooling bait. Bring those beetle spins out
    Change grub tail and use drop shot size that matches size. Use different size beetle spin to go a.little bigger. Remember that hook is thin metal use heavier jig head. Ways to fish are as simple as matching what bait is doing. I have 40 pounds days. Awsome fish
    We lose some fish just play your hook within its limit

      Schooling bass or bait not only. Single bait may get a frenzy bite on like not in along ago when fishing was better

    Another great video Steve! Thanks for the underwater footage you provided with the baits. I also use a finesse style swimbait in my arsenal this time of year. I usually use an underspin with it. It gets bites for me this time of year. I also need to get the spinnerbaits back out. I have a lot of laydowns in the lakes I fish and would have never thought to throw a spinnerbait in them. I usually pitch a jig in those laydowns.

      It is amazing how the spinnerbait gets forgotten these days. Such a great tool.

    Those are really great bait choices! I know for sure you'd get quality bites using those on my local fisheries! It's hard to beat a weightless soft jerkbait in the fall and I've been on a big kick with them myself lately.

    I've always loved fall fishing, seems like the fish want really small or big baits. But this summer has been excellent for me with big swimbaits & big worms! Broken my PB for 3rd time. Started with a 8.6 in June, then a 9.3 in August. Then last Friday I did it again with a 10.2 pound largmouth! I actually think it was an 11.5 because my digital scale is reading 1.2 light when I check it with 5 & 10lb weights!. It's been off for at least 3 weeks I know of. What quality very accurate digital scale would you recommend? I'm in need badly! All of those fish were released of course. Hopefully next year I can catch one of them again & possibly beat my new goal of a teener...

      That is just an amazing year! I have just used the Rapala digital scale over the years.

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors yeas it has, of I didn't have all the pictures, I'm not sure if I wouldn't just thought it was a couple good dreams. I have the cheaper Rapala scale, up to 50lbs. I know there's a nicer one that only goes up to 15lbs. My scale is consistent. I didn't know it was off till few weeks ago. It reads 1.2 light then & again last Friday evening. It doesn't have a way to calibrate it. Maybe its always been off & was calibrated wrong from factory? It would make sense the more expensive one that only goes up to 15lbs would be more accurate though.

    # 2 Steve. That slapping you talked about. Is this why I sometimes foul hook a bass on a hard jerk bait? Did they just slap it and end up hooking themselves on the outside.

    What are your thoughts on chatterbaits this time of year on grassless herring lakes? And is the spinner bait only for cloudy weather and visible targets? Can’t seem to get anything on it on the herring lake I fish. Thank you and God Bless!

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  Рік тому +2

      Definitely chatterbaits are a good one to use. I like to try and slow roll and bounce the spinnerbait on the first major break if I can find one when there is no grass. And definitely around wood if you have it there. But it is good at dredging that bottom structure too.

    Great stuff Steve first time finding your site! Have you ever fished rivers in the fall? Meaning, navigational, rivers, not larger creeks? Your advice will be important.

      I have quite a bit. I really focus on areas where I can find the most current that has the quickest drop to deeper water. That combination has worked really well for me each fall fishing the upper Mississippi.

    What a good lure/rig for bank fishing? I always see fishing folks always on boats mid lakes etc. What about for us poor folks without boats :P Got anything for us for this time of year, Much thanks.

      The shallow running squarebill is a good one - the ones that run less than 2 ft. I really like a popper for bank fishing in the fall and the weightless jerkbait is a super good one for avoiding snags and can be fished about anywhere.

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors I'm in northern KY and mostly around smaller ponds and medium lakes. I also want to try the Ohio River. Work well for both those types?

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  Рік тому

      @@TheXerosyn definitely. When fishing the river see if you can find places where the current swings into a bank and pushes baitfish into it.

    I had some blow ups around me last week while kayaking and threw a 90 size whopper Plopper and no hits. Guess I had the wrong size or wrong topwater. I also threw a mini max chatterbait no hits. It was like 3 or 4 blow ups around me at the same time, like 3 different times within 10 minutes. Right place, wrong lures.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  11 місяців тому

      It's crazy when that happens and can be so frustrating. I had a tournament years ago on Lake Oneida in New York where smallies were slashing a topwater but wouldn't hook up at all. Took a weightless soft jerkbait sinking slowly to finally get them to really eat. I know you'll get them next time!

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors

      If they are pinning fish tight to the shore or cover I will use a popper but if they are pushing them in more open water or above structure than I will use a walking bait or plopper.
