I absolutely adore Code Geass! It's a series I've already watched 7 times and it's probably safe to call it my all-time favorite anime. It is such an amazing story, with such incredible characters and spectacular world-development. A true Classic that should be watched, re-watched and appreciated by everyone! The aspect I loved the most in this series was the relationship between Lulu and Kallen, since I am a huge fan of the concept of the power-couple formed from one half representing the strategist/scientist and the other half representing the sword/ultimate soldier - this is why I also adored the relationship between Hange and Levi in Attack on Titan. It was so refreshing to see these roles reversed in Code Geass, whereas the male is usually the sword and the female is the brains, Lulu and Kallen breaking that stereotype was spectacular. Out of the many incredibly amazing moments in this series, three that involved Lulu and Kallen stood with me in particular: - when Lulu is so distraught and is about to dose himself with Refrain and Kallen stops him. The scene where he pushes himself onto her telling her that she can comfort him as a woman was so powerful from an emotional standpoint, IMO. At that moment, since Kallen loved him so much, she would have allowed him to have his way with her, but she realizes that this is not how she wanted her love to come true. Indulging in cheap pleasure would have done nothing in the long run for either of them. Once the deed had been done, they wouldn't be able to look each other in the eye and everything they worked for up until that moment would have crumbled. - when Lulu lies to Kallen and tells her she regarded her as a tool/weapon. He's obviously lying and she knows that. She can't say that she knows him best, and she admits that she can't keep up with his shinkansen of thought or begin to comprehend the deeper meaning behind his strategies, so she leaves and trusts him to accomplish another miracle, which does come true when Rolo saves Lulu and they escape. - the kiss at the United Federation of Nations meeting. That was incredible! Kallen was ready to return to Lulu's side with a single word from his behalf. She finally understood what he did for her back on the Ikaruga when they were held at gunpoint. She had an inkling of what his current great scheme could be, and yet, she awaited his response. Little did Kallen know that Zero Requiem required Lulu's death and that by turning her down at that moment, he managed to shield her from what most definitely would have been even more pain and suffering. So Lulu had to step on his heart one more time and turn down yet another woman that truly loved him. Since I am a great Lulu X Kallen fan, I like to believe that among the 3 women that loved him, Lulu would have loved her the most too, but due to the nature of their roles, he already knew how impossible such a pursuit would have been, given that Kallen was the spear of his army and always subjected to danger. While she probably would have gladly gave up her life for him initially, Lulu had already been traumatized by Shirley's death to allow something similar to happen to Kallen too.
