    Lelouch never made excuses for his actions
    for example when he ask to meet Suzaku

      This anime changed my perspective on anime.
      Let me explain.
      I watched Death Note as my gateway anime. Sure I'd seen other things. DragonBall and pokemon, but didn't really sit down and seek out anime till Death Note.
      I don't remember if I went right into Code Geass next or if I watched something else. Regardless, I did sit down and watch it.
      All throughout season 1, I was pretty constantly saying, "it's okay but Death Note was better." Comparing every detail from the art to the characters. I was a lot more passive and wasn't paying full attention.
      And then SAZ happened.
      I get why some people think it was contrived or stupid, but I never agreed. We're allowed to have dumb moments, and Lelouch clearly wasn't thinking. Not to mention, he knew Euphy so well he knew what the worst thing would be for her. It was a really poor taste joke that ruined everything.
      But I do wish to some degree that they left it ambiguous about what exactly went down. I think they didn't want to pull the heel trigger quite that hard on him, but I do wish they did in some ways. I think the best of both worlds would have been to keep it from the audience. Leave that nugget of suspension that he did it.

    Has anyone else noticed that the Zero requiem has been the plan (meaning foreshadowed) since R1?
    in the episode "the princess and the witch" on the parallel dialogue between Suzaku and Euphy, and Lelocuh and C.C., Lelouch states that that fighting will come to and end when someone wins. When C.C. asks him "who?", Lelouch just smiles, never outright stating that he will be the ultimate victor and calling the shots when the fighting's over.
    In a later episode, Lelouch then mentions to C.C. that if things go according to plan, *he wont be able to be with Nunnaly anymore* . one of the major reasons why Zero was stubbornly trying to recruit Suzaku to his side was because Suzaku was the only person Lelouch feels he could entrust his sister to if everything went according to plan (which it did in the end)

    • @PainAmvs_
      @PainAmvs_ 4 роки тому +60

      khaii13 Yes but I doubt Lelouch had only 1 plan. They probably just had all of the same conclusions. Can’t be with Nunnaly for them to work. He’s good at chess and being 1 step ahead but he can’t see the future. When he accidentally killed Euphy the author proved that he’s not overpowered.

    • @khaii13
      @khaii13 4 роки тому +38

      @@PainAmvs_ i used to think the same as you, especially in my first watch years and years ago. but as life happens, rewatches reveal different insights (some of which i mentioned already). and i do feel that was the overall plan, at least the broad strokes of it anyway. obviously his intent was much different in the beginning. originally he intends to only have a safe "space" for his little sister. but it shifted kinda early after he tasted his first defeat against cornelia in which he declared he will make his own army and country; and originally also he just wanted to checkmate his father; the higher ideals only come much later. but i do feel that, based on his character, Lelouch kinda already know that for the fighting to stop, there needs to exist a symbol so evil that the world will unite against it that needs to be vanquished; and Lelouch is not thetype of person who would entrust the role of the ultimate scapegoat to anyone else given that with how much power said scapegoat would have before the end, anyone else could be corrupted by it and cling on to it. but that's just one youtube commenter's opinion.
      and yes, i totally agree that Zero is not the type of person who only has 1 plan; but I sure as heck knows he is the guy who has a masterplan that he always keeps close to his chest.

    • @Elly3981
      @Elly3981 3 роки тому +18

      One thing about Lelouch that people often overlook is that even though he can use his geass to order people to do anything he wanted, he still prefer that others help him of their own free will, especially his friends. That's why he refused to geass Suzaku into joining his cause but simply ordered him to live on, knowing he would be an obstacle.

      You either die a hero or live long to be the villain. Lelouch was both.

    • @alai3350
      @alai3350 2 роки тому +1

      I'm hella late I know, but in my opinion I don't believe Lelouch original plan was a zero requiem, like some said, it was one of the many plans he would have, but not the main one until his realization in C world.
      My reasoning is that he wanted to make a perfect world for her sister AND watch her enjoy that world, Lelouch main objective at the beginning of the series is her sister and revenge against the nobles, at that time Japanese were just allies that shared the same goal, the destruction of Britania.
      This is also my theory why the black Knights didn't had a contengency plan if Lelouch died, cuz Lelouch wasn't a guy that stayed in the back lines giving orders, while he definately wasn't in the front lines he still was in the battlefield were the risk of dying was highier than if her had hided.
      Now a revolutionary organization would have counter measures in case of the death of their leader, heck, a leader as brilliant as Lelouch would have though this possibility, why there wasn't any mention of this plan then?
      Simple, cuz Lelouch wasn't planning to die, or at least, as a sacrifice for the Japan revolution, he was planning to live till the end to watch the world he created with her sister, sacrificing himself would be the last resource he would go for and only if it meant saving her sis, like what happened with Mao, his goal was to be happy with her sis.
      While someone who fought entirely for the revolution would think of ways that the movement didn't die even after his death, Lelouch would only sacrifice himself for the sake of her sister, that's why he never gave his organization that kind of plan, meanwhile, due the view they had of him, a man of miracles, they somehow found impossible the idea of him dyin in the battlefield.

The main difference between these 2 endings for me in my opinion are the endings. That's because at the end of the day while both Lelouch and Light committed great evil to achieve their goals, Lelouch showed himself to be far more human than light. Both characters has massive pride and were willing to use people, but ultimately Lelouch did care that people were being hurt by his actions. Light had no such compunctions, and showed not one iota of real care for anyone around him, only pretending to care when it suited his interests. What I enjoyed the most about this anime is how every episode has a secure place in the overall story. In a normal show the big fights and the political intrigue would be the main focus when things really start to get going. Geass, however, goes out of it's way to include social, high school episodes, even during its second season. These episodes served to evolve relationships between the characters, and STILL manage to keep me on the edge of my seat. I wouldn't go so far as to say they're the most important episodes, but what happened in school, every little interaction, could have a kind of snowball effect.

    9:22 on top of that, Euphie was that one girl he had maybe had a crush on back when they were little and she maybe had the same feelings for him, which makes her death even more tragic than it already is. His last words to her before he shoots her were "Farewell, Euphie. You may have been the first girl I ever loved." I mean.... I just finished my third rewatch of Code Geass and I decided to try is dubbed this time and.....god.....Johnny Yong Bosch hit it out of the park with his portrayal of Lelouch. While I love Jun Fukuyama's voice, Johnny's genuinely gave me chills. My favorite would have to be when Lelouch thought Nunally was dead and began screaming at Rollo over the charm he gave to Nunally just left me speechless. I ended up rewatching that single scene more than any of the other scenes in the entire show. Most dubs have trouble with portraying emotions through voice lines, but Johnny's just managed to captivate me literally every time he wasn't calm and collected.

    This series is the only reason I started taking anime seriously, and seems to be one of those anime that takes itself ver seriously but knows when to try to add mundane, calm, and humor so you don't experience burnout or be overwhelmed. Also, even though Geass is not explained, I find it to be more or less a glorified curse. C.C.'s story with her Geass kinda explains why she initially wants something so drastic from Lelouch.

If you watched Akito the Exiled spin-off, you'd notice that even though the emperor gave Suzaku a promotion for turning Lelouch in, he still put Lelouch in a position of authority over Suzaku, even while brainwashed, when he sent them over to Europia to crush an anti-Britannian uprising.
