In my farm, I killed off all the dark fog bases except for 4 that were close enough to the farm to be constantly triggered to come in and attack it. That means that I never get those launching an assault messages, because it's just a constant trickle of foggers coming in, instead of big waves. It also means I have the rest of the planet available to build on, so the farm itself has a lot more PLS which can export more different types of material, and then on the other side of the planet I have ILS to export the materials off world.

Unchecking the ILS stack setting "set to tech limit" and setting it to a limit of 1 on your inner ILS means you have less resources wasted on the belts (like your battlefield analysis bases, power poles, warpers, etc.).
24:00 If you'd use ctrl-click, you can send your fleet ahead of you and then the fog won't shoot you because you won't be near the action. This works in space too; you can ctrl-click to deploy your space fleet many meters/km/AUs ahead of you.
The most bulky structures ought to be on the outside so they are the first thing the enemy drone encounters. If you have laser turrets on the outside, no wonder they get destroyed periodically. It's not going to be a large change overall but it's necessary for a close-to-infinite farm. You also need the grating crystals on a separate loop since they take up a lot of space and the storage you set up will be filled in in a few hours no matter how high you try to stack them up.
From all the testing I've observed for fog design using lasers, BABs and signal towers it seems 2 rows of lasers in front of the BABs and set to prioritize low air can keep even the largest swarms from destroying things. Assuming the signal tower ranges are ahead of the laser range( to draw aggro) and the middle rows of lasers are set to ground. This works because of the density of buildings per BAB being about equal to the number of repair drones per BAB, 12, thus each BAB repair drone's closest buildings to repair are the lasers encircling them or another BAB. With the repair drones distance to site minimized and the signal tower pulling focus from the incoming swarms, they'll not get through before being destroyed due to laser turrets per unit area. With this in mind we've seen sustainable farms that only use lasers to farm, all planet missiles are set to high air or space. Your design may only need 1 row in front of the BABs due to being a polar build, equatorial builds do work best with 2 rows of lasers, a row of BABs and lasers, another row of lasers then a row or two of lasers mixed with signal towers. A cellular build would focus around compacting a signal tower( rear middle), 2 BABs, and 21 lasers in a figure 8 around the BABs weighted to the front if possible.
1:47 youtube is going to be a nightmare when we have to start distinguishing between pile sorters, stack inserters that are now called bulk inserters, and the new bulk inserters that are now called stack inserters
@nilaus tiny tip at around 11:20 when you connect the rings to the ILS, you can go a straight line from the left or right ILS output, you dont need to make the L. (the gridline imdicates it)
Excellent, very clean build Nilaus! You mentioned lasers weakness against large groups; so on my farm, instead of one back row of missile turrets and two forward rows of laser turrets, i replaced the middle row of lasers with implosion cannons on mine, adjusted front row of lasers spacing a bit, and used crystal explosive shells. Implosion cannons are so insanely overpowered on large groups that it's crazy!
in my game i used the implosion cannons instead. and set up 4 BABs to collect and fabricate the ammo from the looted items, for now, the ILS never has requested more ammunition. it takes a lot more footprint though, a little inside the 2nd 3 squares "tectonic plate"
I'd like to see you try to set up a ground-to-space Hive attack. I have a planet in my game where the hive theoretically gets close enough for my plasma turrets to be able to attack it, but I haven't attempted to attack it lest my planet get overwhelmed. So it'd be great to see you design a build that works on planets close enough to hives to be able to take out the hive without me having engage them directly/alone.
You are outputing the BAB and everything in the middle with a stack x4, put it on x1 so you don't waste so much on the belt. Also, i made the same thing with the warnig telling me when i don't need more of some drops and if you don't use them, the warning stays there forever and it is a bit annoying so i set it up to warn only when i don't have enough, it will warn at the start but once you fill it up i think it is much nicer to not have the warning permanently.
The warning in this case is because if any one item fills up the ILS it will back up and eventually completely fill the sushi belt as well, and then all the other items will jam up too. That's also why the huge buffer stacks were requesting all the items, but the grating crystals are likely to fill those fairly fast if they're not consumed fast enough.
@@Mirality Yes i know why he does that, i did it as well. Also building the warning right after the sorting belt without any buffer storage will clog up the belt in like probably 30s.

Leaving that nearby base intact might even be preferable, if your farm can handle it. Having a hive nearby will massively increase hostility and you will be under constant attack. In turn you will ofcourse get a lot more loot. My farm has been running for hours and i couldnt detect a hint of them slowing down at all. Even had to ramp up my missile production to keep up. Also the Signal towers have massive health pools, more than any other builiding and dark fog will focus on them. So the towers would be the ideal outer defense layer. The pickup range of the BAB is still wide enough to reach all the loot.
The signal towers are placed inside so the missile towers won't start to shoot too early so the lasers can do the killing without wasting too much ammo.
foir dark for farming I prefer surrounding dark for bases, and fgarm everything, and put it out to big everything sorter. I keep bases permanently engaged (so signal towers in range that ae pulling troops when they spawn). you can farm ton of resources that way. you also can provide more buldings to the planet, so you have higher power consumption, which should make them more active
You could throw the crystal explosive units down from orbit and bombard the base. It is pretty effective with how much damage they do when thrown. I do think you have also dismissed the usefulness of the upgraded jammers on your front line.
I'm curious why you didn't want to have a nearby hive bases. From what I've seen if you are close to a hive it'll stream attacks at you which would be great for building up threat and speeding up the farm.
Wouldn't the main bus be more effective if you added one more layer below for the belts to go on the other side where you have no assemblers as to be able to have twice as many assemblers per unit of length?
20:00 That design doesn’t allow for overflow of a particular item. Once one thing is full, the whole thing will stop. I use Depots/Hats/Drones to transfer items from Analyzers to ILSs that way if something overflows it doesn’t stop everything else. Then I just filter each Analyzer for a particular item(s). For multiple items, I’ll attach Depots to the Analyzer with filtered Loaders. You can program up to 10 different items into a single Analyzer with Belts and Loaders going to different Depots. Then you wouldn’t need every Analyzer collecting just one every 90 degrees. Other Analyzers can be programmed to construct/replace Turrets/Depots/Belts/Loaders.
The BP can be improved. Rather than the missile belt coming out of the front of the ILS it can run out from the sides and at the other 2 ILSs can run behind it instead. This will allow for the Splitter/Sorter to run their respective belts into the fronts of ALL the ILSs to sort their respective DF Loot.

If you mean the microcrystalline components, there is probably one in Nilaus older videos. They are a pain, it takes 4x assemblers per to make the same number as a single assembler making circuit boards.
If I wanted to put a dark fog farm in a system I'm using, what defences would I need on other planets, just shield and missile turrets set to space? I don't really understand how the Hive attacks yet
Yes it will clog. He'll get too much of something on the belt after it's ILS fills and it will bring everything to a screeching halt. You need one line or box PER item. If one item fills its belt or box, so what. The other belts or boxes continue to work. This is the one giant flaw with this build. This is the same issue with his early game sorting system that relied on a single belt with boxes. One box would fill up and stop the whole system.
@@eriksolce7000 And how do you suppose you output 8 items onto all different belts from all those BABs? No. What you could do is single item BABs and bot delivery back to the ILS. It's a pain to set up and then there's a question if you're actually picking up everything or not

Interesting implementation, but... 1. The largest production is 150 pcs/min. Accordingly, this is 9000 pieces/hour. It will take 5.5 hours to fill 50,000 main storages (20,000 in the tower on this planet, 20,000 on the receiver planet, 10,000 in the small tower on the receiver planet). And the conveyor will stop. The sensor will work. It is clear that the frequency of the sensor is sufficient, but the blueprint not optimal. IMHO. 2. The maximum level for bases on the planet is 30 and the amount from the base is 180 units. Now the base is losing a few buildings, which, of course, are being replenished. But it’s better to make it more powerful. 3. As always, thanks for the video!
I am curious with the way they changed the mechanics of loot drops could you not get more unipolar magnates with a single constantly agro'd base in a neutron star or black hole system? I say single base so you could still mine the planet as you normally would. May be worth a test.

The only thing that I'm not sure that if 60 fidget spinners per resource would be enough throughput...
Yeah on top of the throughput it also means BABs can only pick up 1 item - then there's the question if you're actually picking up all the loot or not, maybe the one that would pick it up is on the other side
I think I'm at level 24+ and I dont' have any of those advanced assemblers or smelters, how do I get them? I'm playing in normal difficulty and vanilla DSP, is that a mod?

100 hours in and still has the fog attack warnings unmuted, shooting high tiered missiles wastes resources, and losing buildings. I wouldn't call this perfect endgame. And i'm not sure how the fog bases in this video are level 26 when my bases are level 29 at 45 hours mark. Did he ignore dark fog farming for the first 105 hours? At 105 hours your vein utilization should be carrying your resources, while dark fog income should be dwarfed in comparison. This is probably not a max difficulty 3000% & not the order you want to do things in.
Yes he ignored farming the dark fog and you would have known had you watched his live streams as well as the rest of this YT series. He only started it because of the stream he had yesterday. All of that also explains why his bases are so low compared to yours. He is also not playing on 0.5x resources and not scarce.

Hey Nilaus please consider uploading in a higher resolution UA-cam compression mangles 1080p60 video. Thanks! ❤
Nilaus - make sure you credit the audio track artist - I only know you need to as it's one I've used myself and know you need to mention it in the video description.
"thats too close." why?
Oh, it will eventually jam, good that you put that alert, but you probably should have put it everywhere just in case. I think the proper solution is to use BABs with boxes and fidget spinners instead of a SUSHI BELT! This way if something jams it only jams for one thing that is not requested enough anyway.
You need the first 5 DF Loot specific drops to unlock the tech in the tech tree. The last DF Loot specific drop unlocks the new Fuel Rod in the tech tree.
So basically I get all of this by looting the fog? @@dracconis69
You must also do the research manually.
ok, I was confused because I don't know where does it say thats how you do it, and also my tech tree doesn't even has the cards with that tech, so I didn't even knew it existed @@Yardiff
@@maxmax003 IIRC to get the secret research to show in your tech tree it isn't enough for your BABs to be collecting each special DF loot, you need to actually place some in your own inventory to trigger the unlock and resulting advisor monolog.
could you make a red science system that dosen't break when it overflows
Thanks a Lot ... What is the name of this Blueprint ?
BAB is nu-school. THAC0 is old school. :P
What do i do i am stuck in the starting system and can not get titanium coz i cannot defeat bases on the titanium planet without yellow upgrades
This, just with low tech - missile turret+signa towersl+babs works just fine. They drop titanium.
Thanks gonna try
i have noticed that when requesting power for artificial suns, it always delivers 1200-1700 even with 1% on the ship ILS option. WHY?
It'll take as much as it can in the ship (so up to 2k depending on tech level). Trick is to not to have it. So set the limit to say 100 or 200 in the sending ILS, have a big box storage outside.
any idea why all enemy relay station being destroyed after some time?
You've built something that shoots it. If it "just disappears" when you constantly clearing the base under it, it just goes back to the hive, doesn't get destroyed. Will get deployed to another planet or another spot.

OMG niaus please help me, I have a problem getting my interstellar logistics working, I have a huge problem setting this stuff up to work right. I run back and forth setting these things up hoping they will work, I got a few things to work over time but now I have started making purple cubes and cant get them to ship back to my home world. I cant figure out why for the life of me. I spent the last 2 days running back and forth changing settings on these stations trying to get them to work. please help me
Leave all other settings on default, set the second dropdown in the one that has them to provide (blue) set the receiving end to request (orange). Add big ships to both towers. That's it. If they're in different systems add warpers too.
Does the dark fog eventually destroy the world it is mining?
Wtf i dont have those?
what is the name of this blueprint?
The blueprint is missing @Nilaus
Lol seeing the giant mass of units on the planet, if only they gave you some sort of aoe weapon to destroy them all at once. No? Can't think of anything? Oh, ok...
why bother with magnets? there's more than enough at the black hole and neutron star
yééééééééé
how about a new factorio train world lets play? It was long ago
