The term “respectable job” is not politically correct. Each job holds its own significance, whether it involves teaching or daily wage labor.

Malcolm Gladwell in his book "Outliers" says as much. Of course, he did not grow up poor. If he did, he would not be where he is. The one thing that is normally left out in these stories is that these people grow up in very able communities and are hardly what you would define as poor or paupers or have nothings! That is a fact.

@@hayonimengi4171 Westerners tend to evaluate everything based on their socio-economic status, often overlooking the economic disparities in developing countries. Consequently, someone earning $1000 a month in India might be considered impoverished from their standpoint. However, this perspective doesn't hold true.

That’s because being successful is about more than just working hard. You also need to be lucky. If he wouldn’t have gotten the scholarship to stanford, he would have never become the CEO of google.
Hard work creates opportunities, but you also need to be in the right place at the right time. Its very hard to win at poker without being dealt good cards, and its very hard to climb into the C suite.

He might have faced tough competition, had he applied for computer science at Stanford. Since not many takers in metallurgy in india, he was able to get admission to stanford.. so yes he was hardworking as he went to IIT and Stanford and ended up at Goolge, but defn a little bit of luck was involved.

His parents were Indian government employees with good middle class values and income that most of us Indians have grown up with and most successful people like us have gone through very similar journeys. Most of us are successful in foreign countries. Some of course are extremely successful like Sundar, Jai Chowdhary, Narayan Krishnamurthy, etc. That’s why indian migrants are highly focussed and successful because of the strong values, intellectual humility and hard work which lifts the economy of the countries they migrate to.
