I love the Painted Lady. I never understood the hype of it, until I saw her in person in a plant store: two stems twisted around each other, light shining through her gorgeous leaves and the colours... I instantly fell in love with her. I think the photos don´t do her justice. When I stand behind her and the light goes throught her leaves, that´s my favourite view - even after having her for quite a long time, I find it as beautiful as at the beginning. And the top of that, she is so easy-going, simply an amazing plant 🙂
I've been obsessed with Painted Lady for years now, have only ever seen it online. Hearing that photos and videos never do it justice is insane to me! I can't wait to get my own some day. 🥰
Hey Arthur, yeah definitely one that even if you were slightly on the fence and you see it in a shop, i think you will want to pick one up. Such beautiful folliage.
Same here upon seeing the Painted Lady in person at a plant shop. I was like “what is THAT”?! Then I couldn’t leave the shop without it. This has been such beautiful, uncommon, and low maintenance plant in my collection. It is a statement plant too, and really raises the bar on the overall aesthetics of my space.
I've recently been gifted a painted lady. I've wanted her for a couple years now. Even more beautiful than the started plant I'd seen the 2 years ago. Thank you for the experience you have had w her. Looking forward to watching her grow larger than the 6 in pot w 6 leaves. ❤️🌱❤️🌱❤️🌱
I love the nervous laugh before you say your opinions. My dark lord died, but I have a reverted pink princess, sold as burgundy princess that gives the vibe of dark lord. When I bought it, there was a disclaimer, the place was super honest.
I successfully propagated 2 large Philodendron Pink Lady cuttings in water during the first Covid lockdown. They rooted really quickly and then started pushing out leaves, at which point I potted them up. I now have a pretty big plant and have found this one of the easiest to grow and one of my favourites in terms of its leaf markings
I just found a beautiful healthy HUGE one of these very rootbound in a tiny pot at a local plant boutique. I think it is the most beautiful plant I’ve ever bought. I barely have room for the philodendrons I already have, but it was just so gorgeous I could not pass it up. I think I’m going to pot up in a Rosebud orchid pot with a moss pole.
What a coincidence, i dont have this plant but I have seen in on several occasions recently. Large plants are sold in garden centers in France for cheaper than a Monstera deliciosa of the same size. I also saw one recently in a kinder garden. It was a several years old plant that outgrew it's coco pole and started running around. I wasn't well cared and probably mistreated by the kids, yet it was beautiful. It's definitely not less beautiful as more "rare" erubescens hybrids but seems very easy to care.
Ohhhh I did not know that very cool that you can get big Big plants for cheap in France that is amazing 👏 🌿💚 Definately needs to get similar Spotlight as other erubescence hybrids 🌿
M - new follower and love your content! With that, I have to say IMO that the painted lady is much like her name. Cute when small, and attractive as a mature plant. I’ve had mine for a year and she’s just as captivating as when she first came into the collection. Watching the leaves emerge is my favorite on her as it’s like a slow tease as the palette gets paint all over in varying shades of green. While the video and pics are great, see this plant in person. I love the pinkish petioles as well.
I bought 2 one leaf rooted cuttings from ebay for £8 including postage. I kept one and gave the other to my step-daughter. Mine is potted in pon and growing like a weed. It's giving me a new leaf every week or so and their sizing up beautifully. I love this plant, the colours are so beautiful and I'm normally a green leaf kinda person 😊.
Orange Marmalade has the same type of stable variegation as the Painted Lady! They are often confused for one another, but as far as I'm aware, their biggest visual difference is that Orange Marmalade has more of a rosette pattern like a Philodendron Prince Of Orange or Rojo Congo.
It is absolutely one of my favourite plants. It is so stunning. I got an unrooted cutting with a foot long leave for around 15$ in spring. It rooted easily and it has put out so many leaves it is crazy. For me it is an extremly quickly growing philo
I love my painted lady and had the same reaction when I first saw her with the impressionist almost like a monet type leaves and red stems . I was lucky enough to get a second baby cutting free with a plant purchase , which was nice . I like interesting variagations and coloured stems and don't really have room for crawlers or have a desire to get any , so she really suits my tastes nicely and love having her. Yours is very beautiful. :)
TOTALLY AGREE! I saw it on insta and was like I mean she's cute but is she as amazing as some other philos and she was discounted alone at a local plant store and seeing the leaves in person also changed my mind and I snagged a 4" for $12! She's def a sleeper for sure.
Yes, it still does excite me a lot. It is not just about the colours of the leafs but the colour of the stonk. I just hope the plant didn't hear you when you said you probably wouldn't get it again. I hope you did not hurt her feelings.
I've only just brought mine a few days ago and can't stop looking at her she's so beautiful 😍 I'm a new plant parent and not entirely sure I know what I'm doing I'm not sure weather to repot her yet or wait a little bit or not worry about it til she really needs it
I absolutely love your content! I have a baby Painted Lady and I echo your experience of not being into the plant till you saw it in person. 😊 she is one of my favorites and so easy.
awww, so glad that you are enjoying the content and also really good to see that others agree too, it is such a striking plant when you see it in person.
I am waiting for a snipping and I’ve only seen photos and videos of the plant. I’m very excited especially because you’ve mentioned that it looks even better in real life😊 When you’ve said that you wouldn’t get it again because it is kind of a one trick pony, I was sure that it is for me and anyone with high anxiety: not fussy and does the trick. 😅
Pests. In germany we have a spray called Careo from Substral Celaflor. Its also available as a concentrate, that you pour with the watering. It goes in the plant and everything that bites it, dies. Maybe you have something like it in the UK. I struggle with my verrucosum... its a pain 😭 spidermites . . . ❤
Hey Stephi, that is an awesome tip, I have seen I can get it on Amazon here in the UK so I will be ordering some to try!! I am so sorry to hear about the verrucosum, I know the heart ache with spidermites and the verrucosum, I have experienced it many many times, for mine i found that the only thing that really worked was predatory mite sachels and replacing them every 2 months in the growing season and that pretty much dealt with all the spidermites for me.
I’ve had pretty good luck with neem oil for mealies, a really good spray down followed by a good shower a few hours later repeated for a week or two has saved a few of my plants. But I also tossed the worst infested ones straightaway (they weren’t anything super special) so that probably helped too 😂 I just got a painted lady top cutting online last week! I saw a huge beautiful one in a plant shop that was WAY out of my budget, but I was determined to find one at a good price after that!
I use SB Invigorator on Mealies and it has always wiped them out for me after one treatment. However as it is also a foliar feed I do spray my plants monthly during the summer months. I'll usually do a soil drench with diluted hydrogen peroxide with the initial pest treatment just in case of any soil dwellers.
For $21 Canadian I can't be upset with it , It was a 9 leaves fully rooted plant when I got it and seems relativly unfussy and I have to agree it looks much better in person than in video or photos , I would buy it again if I lost mine for what ever reason.
I'm glad I saw your video now. right now there's very cheap(9$) two leaf cuttings of it of it available where I live and they're cuttings with huge leaves so I'm definitely going to order it😍😍 for mealy bug infestation, if I were you I would use chemical pesticide. quick and easy. and there are a wide variety of pesticides that are effective for mealy bugs like chlorpyrifos, malathion, confidor and other ones (at least in my country they're easily available in almost any nursery)
Looking to get my 1st kinda uncommon philodendron which is relatively affordable....and thanks to your videos Ive narrowed down to the either painted lady or a variegated burle marx. Would you recommend one over the other? Any other philodendrons I should look at?
Id definitely suggest the painted lady over the VBM, both are similar care wise but VBM are notorious for reverting all green and take a lot of chopping and maintenance to keep them looking good
I have a highly variegated golden pothos and one of the leaves has the same type of speckled/ painted variegation as a painted lady. (when comparing photos) I guess one could say I get the best of both worlds 😂
I've been successful with a mix of 70%water, 30% rubbing alcohol and a few drops of dish soap. Sometimes it takes me a few treatments, but it usually works. Worth a try atleast...best wishes!

Did you get one??

Awwww that is amazing thanks for sharing Deborah!!! I will give water propagation a go with this one for sure 🌿💚👍
I love this plant, it brings color variation to my collection and has never been fussy. Mine grows as fast as my Erubescens.
Right, so much brightness and color 😍💚🌿
I believe these guys actually are a mutant of erubescens!
I totally agree. Most underrated plant and so easy to care for!❤

i just got one and i started crying over it and my dad was with me... never been so embarrassed in my entire life but, it was so worth that!

Hard to find in my area so I was thrilled to get a cutting last weekend. I find it beautiful.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder 🙂BTW - I love your videos including the way you explain how to grow and care for them.

No this is one that is still in my aroid mix 😊
@@Houseplantygoodness Thanks for the info 💚 Yes, I hope she’s back soon 😀
I'd say a lot of aglaonemas have that same or similar kind of artificial - sometimes almost digital looking - colouration/variegation.
Love your videos 🥰
Awww glad you are enjoying 😊 🌿💚🙏
is painted lady the same as orange marmalade?
Starkle G works like a charm for mealy bugs
ohhhh that sounds epic, sadly just did a search and we cannot get it in the UK 😫. thanks for the tip though 👍😁
PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON DEALING WITH MEALIES!!!!!! I need serious help
I will try, I can show what I have been doing, I am still dealing with mine, but maybe it might help others deals with their mealies

Beneficials! Mealy bug killers 😁
Hatch a bunch of praying mantis eggs and let them do their work!
