I'm sold. I now need to find $999 to get it. I just got a '61 American Vintage II and it sounds like butter. I can't get enough of it... This Ensenada piece will round everything up. I was never sold on the Acoustasonic. I was never convinced by the acoustic sound of it, or the looks of the Strat version. These one though.. Does sound like a real guitar. These Fender guys keep pushing!
I've found my acoustasoinc jazzmaster to be super useful for touring & can get a really spot on acoustic tone with my kemper, but I can tell people in the audience are always like... "what is that thing the guitarist is playing and why does it look electric but sound acoustic" haha. This one feels more acoustic-y, looks more acoustic-y, and actually is more acoustic-y if that makes sense lol
Awesome playing, first of all. Secondly, as I just wrote in another comment elsewhere, I just came from my local Guitar Center, and right outside the "acoustic room" was a display with a couple of these on it. They caught my eye because they're so gorgeous! If you don't know, a lot of ukuleles are made with this sort of figured binding that looks like a basketweave or rope pattern around the edge. These guitars have that kind of edge treatment (though it's hard to even call it an edge, because it's so rolled), that's most likely painted on rather than inlaid, but did I say it's gorgeous? The overall design, the build quality, the fit and finish, from what I could see. The sound as an acoustic was really "present," just lacking in overall depth and volume. I didn't actually plug it in, I wasn't shopping for anything like this, and that's why I came to check out these videos. So I loved your playing, I think you said the right stuff about the instrument, and I'll check out that Jung Kook video. Thanks!
That's a beautiful little guitar, love a slightly smaller with that Fender headstock amazing imo....mate that sound is insane, and the looks, want one too!...great advert for this little Fender. Mate you're great.
Been watching videos on these all day and this is the one that sold me on picking one up. Excellent video and playing! Subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Researched these guitars a lot and for sure your video convinced me to pick one up and at least give it a try. Got the Mahogany Parlor as a first choice!
sounds great as always, diggin the little homage to lage in there. love this design WAY more over the acoustisonic. I know you said you loved it, but I felt like the acoustisonic was the worst of both worlds as far as electric/acoustic goes. Great demo, would love to see/hear more original music!! even if youre just noodling around, i learned so much from watching you play back in the day.
Hello from Baltimore If you were newly starting. Would this guitar be easier ( lower action) and thinner- more comfortable than typical acoustic guitar like Martin 000 jr? 😎❤️
Great guitar and I’ve just got one. One thing that reviewers never do. That is to tell us what the action is like and what gauge strings are on straight out the box. These to many of us are really important factors. Hope you’ll cover in future reviews. Thx. 🙋♂️👏👏🇬🇧
Hey there! As far as action, ive never had the same guitar have consistent action out of the box. Shipping, season, and location can all mess it up in transit! As far as strings, I always recommend re-stringing and setting up your new guitar the second it arrives so it feels more like YOUR guitar!!
Nice overview. I've watched a number of YT videos regarding the Fender Highway guitars. I do want one, but now my problem is do I get the Parlor or the Dreadnought. I'm leaning towards the Parlor. What guage strings do you use and what kind of amp do you play it through?
I spent a good amount of time playing both, and I favor the Parlor, but thats just me. I'm used to playing smaller sized guitars in general, so im more partial to the Parlor size! Stock strings on this guitar, i believe .11? I say send it!!
perfect timing, was just thinking about buying this guitar, thanks for your video! Still not sure If I'll buy it. had a few duds so far in the fender acoustic guitar line. If the quality is more along the line of their electrics tho...
I just picked up the dreadnought. Still trying to dial in on my sound. With that said, it’s so comfortable to play. It’s a joy to play. Just need to find that sweet spot sonically.
Great job man. I saw another review of this guitar that made me think nothing of it but you've shown there's definitely some nice sounds you can pull out of it.
Is the only difference between parlor & dreadnought the physical size? Do you just run straight into a PA with it or are you using something like a Fishman Acoustic amp?
They feel like two completely different beasts! Other differences too like the wood ect. I just go straight into my Kemper but you'd be cool to go right into the board with a little EQ!
Hi Donut Doctor, have you done any set up of the guitar since you got it? like the neck relief, nut and the saddle height? And what string gauge is on that guitar?
Do you like the Parlour better than the Dreadnought? I'm not all that great... pretty much just cowboy chords atm. Started lessons again, and I'm looking for something that will let me play bar chords without my hand dying.
I 100% agree. It actually sounds like a real acoustic guitar not an electronic high tech artificial sounding wannabe. You can not fake the organic detail in the sound you get from the real deal no matter if it is indeed small and humble like this guitar. THANX for the demo.
If the reason for the pickup being the shape it is is because it's the perfect spot for an acoustic pickup, then why is this the only pickup Fishman makes that looks like that? Wouldn't all of them look like that?
Yeah I definitely call BS on the slight curve of the pickup having any significant sonic effect, just a design decision - nothing wrong with that but silly to claim anything else
I have an acoustasonic tele. Not totally crazy about the acoustic sound when plugging in direct to record. Not totally crazy about the sound of my Taylor direct when recording. How does this do? I’m look for smooth, true, clean sound. I’ll add a little reverb and away we go. By the way, it sounded really good in the recorded video you attached. I could hear the difference when you changed guitars.
There's a lot of stuff you can do in post with DI acoustics/acoustisoincs to make them sound more yummy - compressors, EQ's, pre-amps, ect. I love this guitar! So much you can do with the sound
This is such a great video! Thank you. This has convinced me to buy this exact same guitar. Is this the all-mahogany or the mahogany with spruce top? Also, what are your personal recommended action settings for this guitar....more like you'd set an acoustic or more like you'd set an electric? Thanks!
I'd recommend setting it up to whatever feels best in your hands! Personally, I had it set up like an acoustic, but again its such a unique piece it kind of just feels like a perfect mixture of acoustic and electric haha I can't explain it 😂
@@TheDonutDoctor thank you! I have a T5z but it's just never felt quite right, so I'm gonna get a Fender Highway Parlor (Mahagony)....thanks again for the great video! Great playing by the way!!!
Still not too sure about this Guitar I do want to get that bottom end out of it but I love the fact that it’s thin that’s what I’m looking for but your guitar playing is fire 🔥🔥🔥
I'm just going direct into my apollo twin here, but live I usually rock a DI straight to the board. I've used it through an acoustic amp as well - sounds great. Check out the demo I did with Guitar Center to hear the amp!
" I'm not advertising for Fender...but I thank them for giving me this guitar. " Dear Fender guys, if you offer me this highway parlor guitar, I promise to make a video and say a lot of good things about it.
@@markclark7885 Leave it up to me, i sh!t you not, my cat just knocked over my glass slide and it shattered into a million pieces 🤣 I'll pick up a new one this week and post to my instagram stories!
The usual bullshit Fender price. Though I must say that unlike everything else that fender has been doing for the past few decades these guitars are quite neat and innovative
My 2 cents are as follows, I have never liked the sound of an electric guitar and even though most of my friends collect and play them, they never interested me. I admit that they look and sound cool, but I find them to be less musical in their voice and much more unpleasant like the noise of someone yelling. I have always enjoyed the sound of an acoustic guitar and classical guitar and think they sound amazing. So not surprisingly, I don't like the sound of the Fender Highway at all when plugged in. To me it doesn't sound like an acoustic guitar at all, and I feel it loses all it's rich sound and character. It sounds like any other electric guitar. However, when you played it unplugged, without the pickup and just in front of the microphone it sounded fantastic and I really enjoyed hearing it's voice.
F8ck a guitar that you need to take to the authorized dealer whenever you end up with a sound issue. It's a freakin' musical instrument, not a washing machine.
Check out my performance with Jung Kook from BTS using this Fender Highway guitar!

If you were newly starting. Would this guitar be easier ( lower action) and thinner- more comfortable than typical acoustic guitar like Martin 000 jr? 😎❤️

Its ultimately up to personal preference, but I prefer the smaller parlor myself!
Great review and nice playing! What do you think about installing an aditionall pickup like the l.r.baggs M80? Wouldnt that be something?
that could be a fun idea to add even more tonal options!

If made in America!, I’m on my way to the store 😏!.
I think these are made in the Ensenada factory - just as solid as any american made I've played from Fender
Mexico. Even better.
The Mexican ones are priced at 1000. If they're successful I'm sure they'll make an American made one that cost closer to 3000
1k seems high.
1k is reasonable for this. For 1k in most quality manufacturing you will get a piezo equipped guitar with layered or laminated back and sides.

mahogany or spruce?
This parlor is mahogany, and i believe the dreadnought version of the Highway series is Spruce!
They have both mahogany and spruce versions of the dread and the parlor.
Nice. Thank you.
Noticed it is made in Mexico... Does it play like the Mexican Acustasonic? Those are just horrible, in my opinion.
