Command theorizes Arlington Court was shipping aircraft munitions so she went up like a firework. Gun crews waited for the Daydawn to fill life boats before opening fire... I'm good with it. We laughed so hard when the only fish that hit the Anavor just bounced off its hull. Irony has an odd effect on men under stress.
Most excellent work, Officer Rae! That Annavore was luckier than we've been. Four torpedos and the one hit is a dud. Then we lost her in that storm before we could re-engage. Perhaps we will meet her again. :)
A good patrol, I can sympathise with the duds. Just keep going, looking forward to the next one. Game here is proving really difficult to find, unless one wants a second mortgage.
Thanks! On the whole, I don't think we can complain on the torpedo luck. We were super luck on the first attack. Second attack was the exact opposite, for sure.~ I'm hopeful they'll be a reprint of some of these at some point. It's hard to find on this side of the pond too. :)
If you roll a 2 ("snake-eyes") and it's not a dud you may add 3 to the damage DR. This was mentioned in the Silent Victory rules mainly because of the higher to sink values of the Japanese capital ships. It also represents hitting a vital part of a freighter. Should be applicable to The Hunters/Hunted.
Just finished a campaign and getting ready for The Hunted. Finished with 17 patrols, 42 ships sunk for a grand total of 282,300 GRT. Ended up with an elite crew, experte doc and a Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. Also Missed sinking the Ark Royal and the Nelson. Zilla, you have to put out after action reports faster! After 3 days I'm missing my fix of your reports!
Wow, that's an awesome campaign, congrats! Did you play with a Type IX or Type VII? I've been thinking that a Type IX might be a better option, even though you're starting a bit later, because of the increased torpedoes and longer patrols. You get a lot more search zones with that Type IX. ~ And yes, the plan was to get out reports every three days, but ... life. I'm hopeful that I can get back to the once every three days in December now. Having said that, there might not be too many patrols left. 1942 seems scary. :)
(M/A) means "Mines/Agent". If you get a mine-laying mission or an agent drop off mission, that's the zone those things happen in. I think we had one or two of those early on, might have been between Patrols 2-4. ~ And yes, that first zone was a score. Not much after that and we were amazingly bad in the last zone, but what can you do. :)
Nice and simple patrol, just how we like it! Infuriating when you get such awful luck with the torps like with that last encounter though! A minor point, you mentioned a couple of times about crew promotion that the successful missions had to be consecutive, but I'm not sure they have to be (the rules in section 11.1 say "for every three successful patrols"). Contrariwise if you have "three unsuccessful patrols in a row" your generic crew will lose an experience level (possibly going down to 'green'!).
Thanks, Film. Yeah, we were Jekyll and Hyde with torpedo luck. So bad in the last encounter, but red hot on the first one. :) ~ And thanks for the pointer on the promotions not needing to be consecutive. I actually know that, but probably am not wording it well when I say it in the videos. I do understand that the three successful patrols don't have to be consecutive. I'll try to word that more clearly going forward, good to know, thanks!
It's been a while since I played the game, but I think the game used that term as a generic term for "a bunch of subs hunting together". I can see both sides of the conversation.
This really is a lucky U-Boot. Another succesful mission and another three ships sunk! Now, is British Isles now automatically a Wolfpack situation? I didn't quite get that
D'oh! You're right. We weren't in a wolfpack! What was I thinking? That was an error. It didn't impact the outcome because we rolled well under our evasion roll anyway, but you're correct! Whoopsie!
Lol hits everything , then can't hit a ship with a full salvo , waves impotent fist at dice gods . I know U58 is a lucky ship but can you get yourself transferred to another class of U boat ?
I know, right! We were so hot in the first round, then 4 shots on one ship and we can't buy a hit. Good times. :) ~ One of the rules is that you can't shift to a different type of U-Boat, so we can't go to a Type IX, which would be an upgrade.
The only thing I saw watching this was that you got the British Isles and there was no w after that pick. Other than that I didn't see where it made a difference.
Yes, I think there is an error note in the description mentioning the mistake with the wolpack, but with the die rolls we had in escaping detection, it didn't impact our mission. :)
I have the hunted and will be starting that soon. Have the hunters 4th orbiting on pretty order. Also have all the Panzer series and storm above the reich and present ordered the battle of britain one.
Hi Zilla ! A quick question - why did you think you were in a wolfpack ? I thought you could only get to be part of them on Atlantic patrols (I'm just trying to check that I've not misunderstood something, my first 1941 patrol followed the same exact track as yours, and I had to abort after the convoy because the escort blew my #2 electric engine out, and then I got jumped by an Allied plane and ended up spending 3 months getting fixed up!)
Whoops, that was a mistake! There shouldn't have been any wolfpack present. Our evasion roll was good enough that it didn't matter, but yeah, my error. I think we've been parts of wolfpacks when attacking convoys so I just blended the two things in my head. I've noted it as an error in the description. Thanks for pointing it out! ~ And that sounds like a rough patrol. We've been lucky so far when we've been damaged, in that none of the systems we've lost are the ones that require aborting the patrol.
@@ZillaBlitz Rough patrol yeah - I ended up with 5 dents in the hull. Just got my KC, so going to go for the roll to change subs...maybe go to a type IX.
Whoa, that doesn't leave much room for more dents. :) ~ Not sure if it applies, but I think the rules mention that commanders can't change U-Boat types during their careers. So if you start with a Type VII you are always in a Type VII. Then again, exceptions can always be made! :)
😂”And it’s a six! Most excellent!” Jeff Spicoli has the con! Just kidding, Mike! Love your enthusiasm - makes these vids awesome, dude!
Thanks, Rob, I'm glad you're enjoying them! :)
Wow, great patrol!
Thanks, jeromy! Getting that convoy and getting those good shots off helped a ton. That was lucky, as we got nothing the rest of the way. :)
Doing well !
Thanks, Officer Clingman! Now comes 1942 and it gets even more real. Fingers crossed for Patrol #13.

Thanks, Michael! I wasn't aware of that addition, and it sounds like there are a good number of modifications that got added to the series over time.
Hope the luck hold through Mission 13 - don't tempt the dice gods!
Honestly, the Number 13 kind of has me freaked out. Must find some inner confidence, and yes, we definitely won't tempt the dice gods on this mission.

That seemed remarkably straightforward. I think I know what that means next time around!
Yeah. That #13 is looming in my head. I just don't see how it's not really bad luck.
What does "(M/A)" mean in the first British Isles zone? Nice first zone! Still a really good result.

@@ZillaBlitz That makes sense. I think Beneath the Med has some similar stuff.
I think I'll play some different games before coming back to another sub simulation, but I'm very curious to see how differently the games play.
last patrol was better as u86 took some damage Like to see the escorts in action. Would like to se the air craft do more great game.
