good review Matt, the only thing I do not like is the awful "manual shift switch" who ever came up with that idea should be fired ASAP, when ever I drive a Ranger / Everest with the 10speed auto it's the one thing that upsets the entire package, at least provide what the 3.2L with 6-speed auto has which is a proper sequential shift gate (pull to up-shift / push to down-sift) or at the very least steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, oh while they are at it a proper "Sports" mode for the transmission would be nice, yes I know some will say but hey it's a ute and does not need these things but the reality is that if you do long distance driving then you need to be able to control the gears since ford can't be bothered to offer a real "manual" with this particular engine and as such being able to quickly lock out 10, 9 and 8 and just use the 1 through 6 and 7th as the over-driver gear will greatly improve your driving experience.
Ranger Raptor or Ranger Tremor oops I mean FX4 MAX? I used to used to do long distance towing with a Ford Everest and the issue with the "live axle watts link coil spring rear suspension" is being able to adjust the load level correctly to avoid rear end suspension sag which affects stability at high speeds since you really can't use load level bars on coil suspensions (due to the trailing arms) which is why the Ranger Raptor is not really suitable for HD towing (backstory: Ford have known this since 1982 which is why the Falcon wagon and Falcon UTE continued with leaf springs) + combined with the trick Fox Shocks set up so the Tremor oops I mean FX4 Max with leaf springs makes sense however Ford have provided Fox Shocks (not the same size or spec though) all round to give off road ability (both low and high speeds) so it's a compromise vehicle which suites me fine if I were still doing long distance towing and off road work, that said I would of really preferred the 2.0L sequential turbo to be offered with 6-speed manual but Ford clearly know better.
Wildtrak is an xlt with a few extra features. Both Wildtrak and Xlt utes are made for a market that want to take the kids to soccer and maybe tow a van and a bit of light off-roading and never put a tool in it. Let’s be honest a lot of office jockeys use these utes and never get off the bitumen. Raptor was made for off-road, springs all round, fox suspension. They’re filling this gap with with the FX4 Max with it having higher vehicle clearance, more aggressive tires and better suspension. Plus the towing in the Raptor is 2500kg which has made it less desirable to a lot of the market. This has 3500kg
Just buy a cheap 3.2L and purchase the new high flow upgrade they got for them now. Probably save u about 15K maybe even more🤷♂️ And i see ultamate tune have uploaded a new vid of a wildtrak 3.2L with the upgrade pushing 500+kw at the wheels at low stress aswell. Just saying cheers👍
Capacity has a limited amount to do with the “strength” of an engine. A team of many engineers developed this engine with the specific idea of a commercial application in mind (think Transit) and it will be fine both short and long term. Thermal efficiency and block compound & design technology has come along way from the old days of “no replacement for displacement”. Sure I’d prefer the sound of a diesel V8 in a ranger but there would be compromises wouldn’t there? Hold out for the T7 ranger and you’ll get some options (as long as you have deep pockets).

Why would you compare this to the Raptor? Completely different vehicles for a completely different user. This is built for towing/tradies, while the Raptor is built for fast offroad fun. It seems cruel to burden such a small engine with such a load.
