What's interesting is that Jimi became disenchanted with the Isley Bros. because they -- like many R&B groups that Jimi played with then -- took issue with his feedback guitar playing (known today of course as distortion guitar), which they deemed as just noise. The irony of it all was that during the 70s, after Jimi died, Ernie adapted this style of guitar playing, and it became the group's signature sound, with hits like "Who's That Lady?" and "Summer Breeze."
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the paradox between the Isleys and Soul/R&B fans rejecting Jimi's playing in the 1960s, yet embracing Ernie's near-identical playing in the 1970s. In hindsight, the Isley Brothers changing their musical direction from R&B to harder-edged Funk in the 1970s is what really benefited Ernie. Funk is an excellent vehicle for the loud & raucous Rock guitar solos Ernie would become known for(Who's That Lady, Summer Breeze, The Heat Is On, Voyage To Atlantis, etc.). If only Jimi had lived a little while longer; it is unfortunate. Respect and RIP.
@@catboyzee Jimi was not really rejected as a player. Ike Turner fired him for taking too long to setup and Little Richard fired him for stealing the show. The problem is that he wanted to play a different type of music that R & B fans did not want to hear. P Funk and Sly Stone admitted to emulating him. Had he played funk he would never have gotten so big
@@robertm3951 Any story coming from Ike Turner I would take with a quarter grain of salt, as the guy was an obvious moron. But yes, he was fired by Little Richard for trying to upstage him. However, many of the R&B acts on the 60's Chitlin' Circuit of which Jimi played as a backup guitar player had a problem with his use of feedback. It was just simply before its time, and it wouldn't until the 70s, after he made it big in England, that his innovative guitar sounds would be incorporated by R&B groups, like the Temptations, Sly as well as the Isley bros.
Beatles cover your Hit song You Turn down Elton John in Audition and You sitting on the Couch with HENDRIX and You are ISLEY'S...Thats more than i accomplished in 32 years 😂😂
Love the Isleys but I also love the Beatles version of their song ... the Beatles had deep songwriting skills and would have made it out if Liverpool whatever covers they did which included little Richard and others
I know they are tired of telling this story. Isley Brothers is a true American Band. Huge influence on me since I started listening to them in about 1970. Jasper, Ron and Earnie reunion tour?
this is what I never understood.. don't Bands have to ask for PERMISSION before doing someone else's songs? Everytime I hear this story told about the Beetles, I'm thinking well didn't the Beetles ask one of the older Brothers, Ronald , Rudolph or O'Kelly to do the song?

Ernie has told some parts of this story word for word in another interview. Must be proud of this story.

“Such an honor to be here”
peep the compliment from the interviewer at the very start
I also ‘peeped’ the end where the interviewer says it’s “been a pleasure” and they are “legendary”
What parts makes him condescending?
