Hi, a great game i also had in the 80's, i too discovered that when i was younger, just purchased one from ebay and had another go at this, the score actually goes back to 1 when it goes over FF, a nice easter egg from the 80's, thanks for the video :)
Yes a little nostalgia and I had uncovered the same loop all those years ago. There was a similar loop situation in the Atari 2600 Pinball game. You could keep the ball in play for hours using a bit of nudge. Great unproductive fun. But that is that is the best kind of fun.
I had one of these as a kid, loved it. Found the cheat too. It's not really hex. It's more like the tens place becomes replaced by letters A, B, C following on from 9, but the place value remains decimal in nature. In analogy to Binary Coded Decimal, I'd call this Hex Coded Decimal. You shoot the UFO for 5 points, so you go 99 to A4 (104) to A9 (109) to B4 (114) and so forth till your max score of C9 (129). I can't remember if I tried breaking out of the loop to shoot the interceptor in the middle to increment the score by 1. Can't remember if scores starting with D are possible that way, but doubt it. If you have a working unit (I don't), please try.
@@ChromeFreeDisco I had this one as a kid, and I would play it on long bus rides home from school. I did manage to get FA a few times once I learned the trick.

Yes, I remember discovering that as a kid. I still have the game minus the battery door. Thanks for the video. Now I'm inspired to dig up a 9 volt.
I bet all your 9-volt batteries are used for better items....the smoke detectors.

i remember doing that in the 80's lol
Wow I had one such happy memories
What type of battery’s does it take please
A 9v PP3
Got this when it came out, my first console. Figured out you could stay left and keep firing to get the maximum score. Loved it up until then.
Shouldn’t the score be able to go up to FA?
Theoretically yes if you can hit the UFO with every shot. I think the highest I ever managed was C8.

Memories!
A1 It's how this game is done. I miss this game as it was stolen from me.
