As a casual player who throws 5 bucks at the daily login subscription thingy like....2-3 times a year, have adopted a hard rule regarding Constellations/Mindscapes for the 5/S characters. I don't even look at em. EVER. Not ONCE. I have NO IDEA what the max potential of any S-rank is, or will be. Because I will NEVER pull for a character enough to actually get more than 1, so its best that I just don't know, and pull for who I just like playing. Ignorance is Bliss.
I actually have a c3 nicole and yes i use her as support for my main team (nekomata anby nicole) and without any discs she still is #2 DPS in most cases (ofc nekomata deals more)
@@kyokosakura3192 I never even really looked into that game. I'd like, just quit Genshin and seen trailers for Zenless so I was cool just waiting for the cooler looking game. Kinda ignored honkai. Don't think I'd be into the turn based stuff, though it goes crazy hard on the music...hope Zenless does the same in the future.

For 90% of gacha game existence "pity" didn't exist. In fact, Genshin was the first game I played where I heard about pity even being a thing. I was surprised to even find that FGO has added a pity in (at 300 summons, which is insanely high still) after all this time.

Also a lot of gacha have pity even before genshin(genshin isn't even the first mhy game that have pity), it just have many different name before. People ‘build pitty’ on a particular banner they wouldn’t mind getting an early S copy or a couple extra A copies. When I see a good banner and get the character, I don’t mind ‘building pitty’ to 30 so long as the S rank has a good 1st mindscape or i want to try get a particular A rank copy. Same applies to hsr, genshin and so on. In some cases, it isn’t worth it if the 4 stars are bad or you have all at 6/6… the S rank character is perhaps niche or just has a lackluster 1st copy. Then there’s people who just have no clue what they’re doing and they ‘build pitty’ and brick their acc
what advice? Pull for whatever you like? in a DPS gacha combat game? There are better games that dont require money to "like" "it" This is a game you pull to get meta units and to push forward, otherwise any other game other than gacha will give you a more rewarding experience for 1% of the effort you will put in this game.
Glad to see more people talking about the constellation/mindscape systems in these games. Just a system they put in so that players want to feel that their character is more "complete." YOU DON'T NEED IT (talking to myself here as well). Save your money, if you've gotten one copy of the S-rank you wanted, good. You don't NEED to try and get more copies, even if the game or other people tell you to.
I look at the mindscape system like a consolation pize. "Oh, you already got this character? Sorry, for your bad luck, here's your character getting stronger just so you don't get too upset at it"
Never played any modern gacha games until ZZZ. Failed my 50/50 on Ellen, but I really like Soukaku, and got her C6 already, so I decided to pivot to Zhu Yuan since she works great with a lot of the characters I was already building.
Congrats on c6 soukaku. When you build attack % and get C6 on her she is so busted and you honestly don't need an attacker at that point. She also versatile enough to work on any team. I have my soukaku at c5 and I really want that last one.
Can I just say how much I LOVE that ZZZ has added counters on each banner to show how many pulls are left till you get your guaranteed S and A rank pulls, TOO many times I have had to go on my history log on Genshin and count it myself to work out how many I have left 😭😭😭
Also remember that A ranks will appear in the fading signal shop, so even if you don't get an A rank during a banner (looking at you, Anton!) or pulling on the banner is risky, then there is always this way to guarantee your copy.
It is important to remember that that is 7 pulls worth. Though if its a character your really like and see yourself using it’s definitely worth cause you may not want to pull on a banner especially if its paired with a 5 S rank you dont like
Also you pull an A-rank every 10, so even with slanted odds of the 50/50 going towards whatever is being pushed this month, 50% of the time it won't. Eventually, with enough pulls, you'll be either getting refunds on characters you already pulled (allowing you to keep pulling for S-rank you *really* want) or making progress on one of the many A-rank Agents. Marathon, not a race.
while buying in the shop is technically cheaper (7 pulls instead of 10) you lose out on 7 pulls of pity towards your next S-rank, which is actually pretty big deal. It's better to just be patient, because you will eventually max out your A-ranks through normal pulls.
Getting a character from the signal shop is a cardinal sin. I did it because I wanted to get a Lucy and would still need 2 more copies for the chain attack to apply buffs, with no sign of her in banners, but in most cases it's pretty wasteful.

to be completely fair, at first I was saving my polys for Jane Doe... UNTIL I SAW THAT SETH USE A CHARGEBLADE. Now Jane is a bonus, m6 Seth is a must have for a chargeblade main in monster hunter like me
Will he be a good stunner? Does his kit have any daze increase? Honestly i prefer Seth over Qinyi, but my Teamcomp right now is center around Ellen and Zhu Yuan.
I think one thing we also tend to overlook in ZZZ compared to any other hoyoverse games, is the prevalent synergies based on factions/types. It makes team building a lot clearer to you, and less of a hassle of trying to scroll thru guides and find the "meta" synergy. It also makes it so you are way less pressured to build specific characters and allows you to have more flexibility when it comes to pulling for who you want (not that I disagree with your third point but I think it's a lot more flexible in this game compared to all other Hoyoverse games). Either way as a F2P I'mma still try my luck to pull for almost everyone when I can cause I genuinely enjoy most of the designs so far!
I wanted Nekomata so FREAKING bad that I just grinded the game to lvl 35, maxed the battle pass and even did some small spending to get that 300 standard pull free character. And on the way to that 300 mark, I got not one, not two, but THREE COPIES of her signature W-Engine. Proud Nekomata main now ^w^
Omg congrats!! I’m also a future Nekomata main, but I’m taking the slow route by only spending the standard pulls I already got for free. It will take a while and is pretty painful, but eventually I’ll get her :D
rough, but yeah, getting guaranteed in hsr (200 pulls) took me half a year And at this point I no longer play those characters, because have 3 better limited banner ones... That guaranteed character is such a scam grind advertisement
Thx for the advice, I started playing gacha 3 years ago, and I am still finding a way to utilise the game currency to enjoy the game at the same time not feeling broke. My take is never go for weapon because mathematically it’s the lowest chance that u can get what u want, so only get characters is my usual practice when I play this kinda gacha

Never build pity if you are on your guaranteed but building 30 pity to avoid a bit of Corin+Billy is understandable. Zhu Yuan being a top 2 carry is never a dead pull if you bink one in your first 10 pull.
its a gacha game. building pity on the off chance on getting the S rank charcter you donmt care for just to avoid acouble of A ranks is sillly. but to each their own.

What would be even crazier is for F2P players to start pulling for the next banner after Zhu Yang because chances are, unless a F2P got lucky on the first 2 ten pulls, they likely will not have the 180 to pull the garuntee. The next character is a replacement for anby but anby is still going to be a close second, best to save the polychromes.

I never pull for pity. I usually wait for the banner of the character that I want. I save up everything for that character so I can get them. I also usually have great gacha luck so I’m good. Great video! I did learn something about pity building.
Thank you for making this video. You're absolutely right to advise people to think about the use case of a character before pulling. As much as I liked Zhu Yuan's design, I knew I didn't have a decent team to build around her since I already built my Ice and Physical teams. So instead I opted to save for Jane Doe since she could replace Piper in my Nekomata, Piper, Nicole team. I'm also fortunate that Seth will be on the banner as well and could potentially replace Nicole.
I’m okay with dropping money whenever a character I like comes out. This game is really fun and the character designs are top notch. Not much more I could ask for
Good stuff !!, as a almost vet hoyo player by now here is another tip, if you are mostly focused on getting a strong team. Build around your fav character, there will be S rank characters that will work well with them in time. Ohh and also if you are not sure about them power wise, wait till content creators tested them out. Some will look great at the start and then turned mid in the end.

this reminds me of when I was trying to pull for Ellen back during the first limited banner. Instead of getting a single Ellen I somehow got 6 Soukaku's, getting a full mindscape for her. Now am I happy with that? Most definitely, Soukaku is ridiculously good.
Since playing hoyo games from genshin 2 weeks after it launched to honkai star rail and now to ZZZ I can say that I've built enough experience when it comes to pulling. My criteria when pulling characters is largely dependent on their playstyle. I demo the character as much as possible and how to play them such that it is comfortable and fun for me. A sample for this is Anby and her third hit variation in stun/electro application or Billy in his dodge atk repositioning. As such I can say I spent my limited resource well and enjoy the game. In the end you will be the one to play the game and the characters you have. Depending on your intention most people just want to enjoy the game in their own pace. I main klee in genshin from way before to now soley because of her playstyle btw even if I have raiden, yae miko, xiao, ayato, nahida etc😂
True, having fun with their playstyle is the most important thing! That’s why I actually use Koleda in my Zhu Yuan teamcomp even tho it’s not optimal, I just like her playstyle too much :3
I built so much pity for Zhu Yuan (I have 18 pulls until S guarantee) I would have like to have her if I got her early to pair with Nicole but now I’m worried about missing Jane’s banner, I think a physical disruption team would be really good and I already have Corin built somewhat decent and then maybe use Rina since I have her too but the main goal is get Nekomata with the guarantee at 300 and then probably Nicole as support

as someone new to gacha games i can't explain why but this game seems to hate me, like i lost the 50|50 and got grace instead of ellen (got her on like 78th pull, getting like 13 soukakus in the process), got zhu yuan on the 79th pull, 250 pulls on the std banner gave me pretty much nothing of value, and at this rate i'm not even sure i won't lose the 50|50 on qingyi and get, like, a third grace instead meanwhile all of my friends are rocking both ellen and her w-engine, the bastards

I have 70 pulls, got some missions I still need to complete, which I anticipate will take me up to 90. Pulling for Qingyi, I think people are undervaluing her. Huge value for a burst team like Zhu Yuan. Also, I don't have a good team for Jane Doe even if I got her.
building pity is in any way shape and form a stupid idea to begin with, it's really simple: you want a character that's coming after the current one, so why the fuck would you actively lower your odds of getting them by pulling on LITERALLY the WRONG banner? statistics people, statistics: let's say you have 120 pulls total (this applies to ANY AMOUNT OF PULLS BTW) and you want a char that's coming next, let's say you pull 40 times to "build pity" as yall say, well congratulations, you have now lowered your chances of getting the character you want by actively reducing the amount of samples (pulls) that you SHOULD'VE saved for THE NEXT BANNER instead of pulling for LITERALLY NO REASON on the WRONG BANNER. "But hey, what if i want both units?!" if you are not in a position to GUARANTEE both characters, then you HAVE to make a choice and evaluate WHO you need the MOST and save for them, case closed.
It's not a stupid idea. If you know the next 2 characters you have 3 banners you're aware of. Character banners aren't just about their S ranks. For ex, Qing Yi has terrible A ranks. If you pulled for Zhu Yuan and you got her early, enjoy her and wouldn't mind getting a mindscape, and DEFINITELY want Nicole C6. You should pull on Zhu Yuan's banner until you C6 Nicole or get close to your S rank guarantee. Then if you want Qing Yi but not her A ranks, you pull on her banner and hopefully win your 50/50. This leads to 3 scenarios: A - You got another Zhu Yuan. Not bad. B - You got C6 Nicole, you're closer to Qing Yi. Very good. C - Worst case scenario. You got a random off-banner S rank. This is only bad on Qing Yi's banner. On Zhu Yuan's banner, you reset your pity and can enjoy getting more Nicoles.
@@SirKrisX the argument isn't about A ranks, it's about people being hyperfocused on S ranks, and even if you were pulling for the A ranks in the banner, why? Just straight up why? You will get enough copies of them through the standard eventually, majority of A ranks don't even need most of their cinemas, leading to you spending polychromes, the most important currency in the game for some A ranks that you will eventually even max out from the standard banner, only situation in which what you say would be effective is if the A rank on the banner is a new character that is NOT already in the standard banner, in that case it would make sense.
@@SirKrisX My reasoning is because early on, getting a single copy of an S ranker, or even a few dupes of a couple A ranks that can skyrocket their power will help to allow a player to build up their base to grow from. In general I always throw my entire wad of honeymoon phase resources into the limited banners even if I really have no intention of getting the banner limited units, just so I'm not stuck trying to make a team out of ill fitting pieces. After that I just recover a stash of resources, because even then later on due to power creep I'll find something to begin aiming towards.
Great advice! I "unfortunately" fell for the 1st myth of building pity on the Zhu Yuan banner for to make pulling for Qingyi or Jane easier. I also was just wanting copies of Nichole and Ben, which I got, but also was not sad to see a second Zhu Yuan. Which you also discussed, about not pulling on banner you're unsure of. Nice, I have 149 saved up in tapes, 38 in polychromes and 10 in residual signal (that's kind of a last resort). Question: should I keep my polychromes or is it OK to buy the tapes? Are encrypted mastertapes ever discounted or something?
@@Caduceus444 honestly, if u have self control and not like me who has gambling tendencies then you can just keep it on the polychromes! 👌 Personally for me I have a tendency to pull on standard (just for the sake of it when I have some extra tapes there) like me testing my luck and being like: "am I gonna get an S rank with this next 10 pull?" LOL So, with this in mind I decided to just convert mine to encrypted tapes so that I can be more disciplined to actually pull for the limited banner I like. (also I like seeing it accumulate into 180 for Miyabi guarantee LMAO) Your situation may vary. 😂
you're exactly right! i go by similar principles where pulling. i mostly ignore the A-ranks being boosted on the event banner because there is no guarantee, and i pull the S-ranks i want. I used to be very stingy, but then i realised that you get more currency by wishing more so you shouldn't be TOO stingy either. I just pull on every banner that 1) i like the character, 2) i like the playstyle, 3) i can see myself building a team with them. if i miss another character because of it, then so be it, they will have a rerun. and copies on S-ranks dont exist for me. even if i like them, i would have more fun trying out a brand new character.
input a 360 degree circular movement while charging EX special. Let go of the charge before the sitting animation ends and she'll fall down and lob the orb into the sky. Let the animation end and continue charging to sit and extend the charge even further, resulting in a forward orb shot that flies much faster than normal.
The trick with this one is to start an ex attack, wait for a bit as it is charging, and at the last possible moment spin the joystick 360 or WASD for keyboard and mouse. If you do this right you can damage the energy during the charge up before and after the spin and finally the black hole stays up for a ridiculously long time afterwards. TBH it’s probably not an optimal way to play but it sure as hell is fun to try and pull off in game
I whaled for Ellen Joe because she was my favorite character in the launch window, and then I got lucky getting Lycaon in the standard banner. I also got Nekomata from the standard banner thus far, so I'll probably throw some pulls at Jane Doe, but if I don't get her on the 50/50, I'll hold until another character I wanna build a squad around comes out.
I built pity during Zhu when I wanted to get more copies of Nicole/Ben to shore up my weaker team builds. Accidentally pulled her around 40 pulls, went broke in regards to Dennies and Upgrading mats, along with having to start picking up Ether Discs readjusting everything to fit her in. Either way, I got enough incoming poly+pull items to get Jane even off of pity. issue is that means I know if I have to hard pull her, I won't be able to pull Miyabi, or the S ranks from Calydon, and I want/need to pull on them since I know Lucy/Piper will show up on the banners between the two S ranks that'll be revealed. And considering the value of Lucy's M6 for cheapass play when combined with Corin and PIper, along with the value of Lucy's Wengine in all fields of play. Frigging ay.

The carry over of pity is a really GOOD mechanic, but it makes people's brains shut down for some reason. Imagine pulling for Ellen and not getting her after 170 pulls, it sucks that you missed out on her (and one of the key reasons people quit gacha games) but it is nice that if you want Zhu Yuan, you have built up that pity for her. But just remember... your pulls are not burning a hole in your pocket, if you're sitting with 180 pulls in your pocket and you don't really want Zhu Yuan but really want Qingyi... you can literally just wait. It's good that you don't lose out on the pity you built if you fail to get a character, if you're like me, a collector, then pulling every 10 pull on the event banner the moment you get it is what you want to do, that's fine. But if you're really looking to make sure you get specific characters, then just save up your pulls and use them on the banner you want. Ideally they'd move away from the fomo mechanic, but making people feel bad for not getting the characters they want is a big part of their business strategy... even if it is misguided.
Zenless combat style i think makes the idea of a character being usless without mindscape just a unlikely the counter dodge and fast paced combat system makes it feel more like it relies alot on player skill and element type more than indevidual character If have right element and are good at clicking your swap counter and dodges you likely do fine with any characted
IMO building pity is not good. Yes you may get a 4 star mind scape but in the long run anyways you are going to replace that 4 star character with their 5 star version. Simply just save polychromes only for the S ranks you want.

Pity builders are losers who can’t hold off on their gacha pulling addiction . Just SAVE your currency for the characters banner you want . It’s fukn annoying being in groups seeing people moan about this when they should have just saved their currency
@@EpicTacoSenpai so I get your logic but when my newsfeed is being filled with annoying posts of people whining cos they failed while building pity (or the other equally annoying one of “1 ticket f2p btw) then way I see it, that affects me. A video telling people to pity build is also pretty stupid imo as most times people who try to pity build end up failing and getting the 5 star they don’t want so that effectively means you spending more currency on the banner to get the character you do want as you already lost 50/50 to character you didn’t want

As someone who has played (or actively plays) all of Hoyo's games F2P: Casual players: You really shouldn't summon on banners you don't want the limited character of. Wait until you want the character on the banner and THEN pull. The flow of summoning resources you have is finite, and you can only get so much before it runs dry. Also, most characters can at the very least function with F2P units, so if another 5 star/S rank comes out the following patch and you DON'T want that character, don't worry about it. (For ZZZ specifically, I've heard the 4 stars/A Ranks are actually really good) Meta players: Take into consideration whether or not the current limited character compliments the characters you already have. If they do, great, if not, really think about how much value you are going to get from the character. If it's not a game breaking character or won't benefit your account much, then skip and save for a character that will be more useful. Additionally, DPS characters are historically less valuable in comparison to supports due to power creep. Supports are always useful and make your team as a whole do more damage. DPS units tend to get power crept extremely quickly, and therefore are usually less valuable by default. (Not to say you don't need DPS characters, just that you're priority shouldn't be on having the best DPS, since supports are more important.)
As an almost day one player on all recent Hoyo games: FOMO is in your head: the game works without dupes, without premium characters and certainly without that little missable currency you get if you got perfect scores/stars on whatever endgame mode there is. Just enjoy the characters you happen to get, maybe save up for waifus (don't forget reruns exist and they're earlier/more often than you think!) and just have fun. I sometimes get the BP for that extra help building characters or if I know I have quests that will make me login daily the 5 bucks for daily currency is good too. You can often save up a lot for when that one hot/cool/sexy/badass character drops and you'll be good.
I'm happy god blessed me with very specific taste and the characters that made me download the game, Corin and Ben were literally handed to me on a silver platter and I had no idea lol???? The only characters I really am looking forward to pulling now is Jane and the robot idol girl
I ended up pleasantly surprised in a similar situation as you. I sort of wanted Zhu Yuan, but knew I didn't have 100% on her, so I wasn't expecting anything. But I did want to build up Nicole and Ben. Happened to get Zhu on an early S and max out both Ben and Nicole exactly on the mark.

Thanks for that tip with Mindscape because I got C6 Ben Bigger but a C4 Nicole with getting Soldier 11 and Zhu Yaun with having only 12 Master tapes left and I've been tempted to us them because I want a C6 Nicole so badley. But I also want Jane Doe so at least get ready to work on my second squad so I'll hold off getting C6 Nicole and focus on what I have for the time being.
Definitely agree to your point of building pity is a denial to players who can't control themselves. Another point to be take note of is about meta characters/lineups, characters will inevitably get power crept. So being wise on who to pull is a must.
I appreciate the nuanced take on building pity. Gacha games can be a slog going several months without a new favorite S-rank, and most of my mains end up being A-ranks (Noelle and Heizou in Genshin, Qingque in HSR, Ben so far here and possibly Seth soon,) so it really varies by person. I've also yet to be spooked with an early S-rank in years of building pity, so honestly the warnings people give always sound like a pipedream.
I'm a simple man, I see a character, I pull. Collecting them all is fun and gives variation to gameplay. I'm lucky though, got 11 and Koleda in the standard (aside from Grace's W-Motor) and Ellen and Zhu Yuan on both 50/50.
I made the silly mistake of pulling on zhu yuans weapon banner and committed all they way to 72 pulls where I luckily won the 75/25. Haven’t played a hoyo game since genshin 1.2 and forgot to factor in that all the pulls for her weapon were pulls I could have used for a hero. Glad I managed to get the wengine, zhu yuan, c6 Nicole and Ben. But really hoping I don’t lose the 50/50 on qingyi (although if I do, soldier 11 would be nice). def build pity if you want the a rank characters or w engines that are on the banner. that's the only time i would consider it. zhu yuan or qingyi are going to add some future value to your account. nicole is a great ether character. i would try to get some of her mindscapes and then make a decision.
This is the exact mindset I went into the qingyi banner with, I wanted to pull to my 50/50 and then just full stop if I lost it. Thankfully I won it, and then I did an extra 10 just because it was super early in the cycle and got extremely lucky with her C1. haven't touched the banner in like 2.5 weeks and I am very ready to pull for Jane after finishing the special episode
As a newish player to Gacha, this really was the kick in the pants I needed to stop having FOMO. I missed Ellen, but got Zhu Yuan + W-Engine, so I should be happy with that.

As a casual player who throws 5 bucks at the daily login subscription thingy like....2-3 times a year, have adopted a hard rule regarding Constellations/Mindscapes for the 5/S characters.
I don't even look at em. EVER. Not ONCE. I have NO IDEA what the max potential of any S-rank is, or will be. Because I will NEVER pull for a character enough to actually get more than 1, so its best that I just don't know, and pull for who I just like playing. Ignorance is Bliss.

I actually have a c3 nicole and yes i use her as support for my main team (nekomata anby nicole) and without any discs she still is #2 DPS in most cases (ofc nekomata deals more)

For 90% of gacha game existence "pity" didn't exist. In fact, Genshin was the first game I played where I heard about pity even being a thing. I was surprised to even find that FGO has added a pity in (at 300 summons, which is insanely high still) after all this time.

People ‘build pitty’ on a particular banner they wouldn’t mind getting an early S copy or a couple extra A copies. When I see a good banner and get the character, I don’t mind ‘building pitty’ to 30 so long as the S rank has a good 1st mindscape or i want to try get a particular A rank copy. Same applies to hsr, genshin and so on. In some cases, it isn’t worth it if the 4 stars are bad or you have all at 6/6… the S rank character is perhaps niche or just has a lackluster 1st copy. Then there’s people who just have no clue what they’re doing and they ‘build pitty’ and brick their acc

There are better games that dont require money to "like" "it" This is a game you pull to get meta units and to push forward, otherwise any other game other than gacha will give you a more rewarding experience for 1% of the effort you will put in this game.

Glad to see more people talking about the constellation/mindscape systems in these games. Just a system they put in so that players want to feel that their character is more "complete."
YOU DON'T NEED IT (talking to myself here as well). Save your money, if you've gotten one copy of the S-rank you wanted, good. You don't NEED to try and get more copies, even if the game or other people tell you to.
I look at the mindscape system like a consolation pize. "Oh, you already got this character? Sorry, for your bad luck, here's your character getting stronger just so you don't get too upset at it"
Never played any modern gacha games until ZZZ. Failed my 50/50 on Ellen, but I really like Soukaku, and got her C6 already, so I decided to pivot to Zhu Yuan since she works great with a lot of the characters I was already building.
Congrats on c6 soukaku. When you build attack % and get C6 on her she is so busted and you honestly don't need an attacker at that point. She also versatile enough to work on any team. I have my soukaku at c5 and I really want that last one.

Also remember that A ranks will appear in the fading signal shop, so even if you don't get an A rank during a banner (looking at you, Anton!) or pulling on the banner is risky, then there is always this way to guarantee your copy.

It is important to remember that that is 7 pulls worth.
Though if its a character your really like and see yourself using it’s definitely worth cause you may not want to pull on a banner especially if its paired with a 5 S rank you dont like
Also you pull an A-rank every 10, so even with slanted odds of the 50/50 going towards whatever is being pushed this month, 50% of the time it won't. Eventually, with enough pulls, you'll be either getting refunds on characters you already pulled (allowing you to keep pulling for S-rank you *really* want) or making progress on one of the many A-rank Agents. Marathon, not a race.
while buying in the shop is technically cheaper (7 pulls instead of 10) you lose out on 7 pulls of pity towards your next S-rank, which is actually pretty big deal. It's better to just be patient, because you will eventually max out your A-ranks through normal pulls.
Getting a character from the signal shop is a cardinal sin. I did it because I wanted to get a Lucy and would still need 2 more copies for the chain attack to apply buffs, with no sign of her in banners, but in most cases it's pretty wasteful.

I think one thing we also tend to overlook in ZZZ compared to any other hoyoverse games, is the prevalent synergies based on factions/types. It makes team building a lot clearer to you, and less of a hassle of trying to scroll thru guides and find the "meta" synergy. It also makes it so you are way less pressured to build specific characters and allows you to have more flexibility when it comes to pulling for who you want (not that I disagree with your third point but I think it's a lot more flexible in this game compared to all other Hoyoverse games). Either way as a F2P I'mma still try my luck to pull for almost everyone when I can cause I genuinely enjoy most of the designs so far!
I wanted Nekomata so FREAKING bad that I just grinded the game to lvl 35, maxed the battle pass and even did some small spending to get that 300 standard pull free character. And on the way to that 300 mark, I got not one, not two, but THREE COPIES of her signature W-Engine. Proud Nekomata main now ^w^

Thx for the advice, I started playing gacha 3 years ago, and I am still finding a way to utilise the game currency to enjoy the game at the same time not feeling broke. My take is never go for weapon because mathematically it’s the lowest chance that u can get what u want, so only get characters is my usual practice when I play this kinda gacha

Never build pity if you are on your guaranteed but building 30 pity to avoid a bit of Corin+Billy is understandable. Zhu Yuan being a top 2 carry is never a dead pull if you bink one in your first 10 pull.

What would be even crazier is for F2P players to start pulling for the next banner after Zhu Yang because chances are, unless a F2P got lucky on the first 2 ten pulls, they likely will not have the 180 to pull the garuntee. The next character is a replacement for anby but anby is still going to be a close second, best to save the polychromes.

I never pull for pity. I usually wait for the banner of the character that I want. I save up everything for that character so I can get them. I also usually have great gacha luck so I’m good. Great video! I did learn something about pity building.
Thank you for making this video. You're absolutely right to advise people to think about the use case of a character before pulling. As much as I liked Zhu Yuan's design, I knew I didn't have a decent team to build around her since I already built my Ice and Physical teams. So instead I opted to save for Jane Doe since she could replace Piper in my Nekomata, Piper, Nicole team. I'm also fortunate that Seth will be on the banner as well and could potentially replace Nicole.
I’m okay with dropping money whenever a character I like comes out. This game is really fun and the character designs are top notch. Not much more I could ask for
Good stuff !!, as a almost vet hoyo player by now here is another tip, if you are mostly focused on getting a strong team. Build around your fav character, there will be S rank characters that will work well with them in time. Ohh and also if you are not sure about them power wise, wait till content creators tested them out. Some will look great at the start and then turned mid in the end.

this reminds me of when I was trying to pull for Ellen back during the first limited banner. Instead of getting a single Ellen I somehow got 6 Soukaku's, getting a full mindscape for her. Now am I happy with that? Most definitely, Soukaku is ridiculously good.

Since playing hoyo games from genshin 2 weeks after it launched to honkai star rail and now to ZZZ I can say that I've built enough experience when it comes to pulling. My criteria when pulling characters is largely dependent on their playstyle. I demo the character as much as possible and how to play them such that it is comfortable and fun for me. A sample for this is Anby and her third hit variation in stun/electro application or Billy in his dodge atk repositioning. As such I can say I spent my limited resource well and enjoy the game. In the end you will be the one to play the game and the characters you have. Depending on your intention most people just want to enjoy the game in their own pace. I main klee in genshin from way before to now soley because of her playstyle btw even if I have raiden, yae miko, xiao, ayato, nahida etc😂
True, having fun with their playstyle is the most important thing! That’s why I actually use Koleda in my Zhu Yuan teamcomp even tho it’s not optimal, I just like her playstyle too much :3

as someone new to gacha games i can't explain why but this game seems to hate me, like i lost the 50|50 and got grace instead of ellen (got her on like 78th pull, getting like 13 soukakus in the process), got zhu yuan on the 79th pull, 250 pulls on the std banner gave me pretty much nothing of value, and at this rate i'm not even sure i won't lose the 50|50 on qingyi and get, like, a third grace instead

building pity is in any way shape and form a stupid idea to begin with, it's really simple:
you want a character that's coming after the current one, so why the fuck would you actively lower your odds of getting them by pulling on LITERALLY the WRONG banner? statistics people, statistics:
let's say you have 120 pulls total (this applies to ANY AMOUNT OF PULLS BTW) and you want a char that's coming next, let's say you pull 40 times to "build pity" as yall say, well congratulations, you have now lowered your chances of getting the character you want by actively reducing the amount of samples (pulls) that you SHOULD'VE saved for THE NEXT BANNER instead of pulling for LITERALLY NO REASON on the WRONG BANNER.
"But hey, what if i want both units?!" if you are not in a position to GUARANTEE both characters, then you HAVE to make a choice and evaluate WHO you need the MOST and save for them, case closed.

It's not a stupid idea. If you know the next 2 characters you have 3 banners you're aware of. Character banners aren't just about their S ranks. For ex, Qing Yi has terrible A ranks. If you pulled for Zhu Yuan and you got her early, enjoy her and wouldn't mind getting a mindscape, and DEFINITELY want Nicole C6. You should pull on Zhu Yuan's banner until you C6 Nicole or get close to your S rank guarantee. Then if you want Qing Yi but not her A ranks, you pull on her banner and hopefully win your 50/50.
This leads to 3 scenarios:
A - You got another Zhu Yuan. Not bad.
B - You got C6 Nicole, you're closer to Qing Yi. Very good.
C - Worst case scenario. You got a random off-banner S rank. This is only bad on Qing Yi's banner. On Zhu Yuan's banner, you reset your pity and can enjoy getting more Nicoles.
@@SirKrisX the argument isn't about A ranks, it's about people being hyperfocused on S ranks, and even if you were pulling for the A ranks in the banner, why? Just straight up why? You will get enough copies of them through the standard eventually, majority of A ranks don't even need most of their cinemas, leading to you spending polychromes, the most important currency in the game for some A ranks that you will eventually even max out from the standard banner, only situation in which what you say would be effective is if the A rank on the banner is a new character that is NOT already in the standard banner, in that case it would make sense.
@@SirKrisX My reasoning is because early on, getting a single copy of an S ranker, or even a few dupes of a couple A ranks that can skyrocket their power will help to allow a player to build up their base to grow from.
In general I always throw my entire wad of honeymoon phase resources into the limited banners even if I really have no intention of getting the banner limited units, just so I'm not stuck trying to make a team out of ill fitting pieces. After that I just recover a stash of resources, because even then later on due to power creep I'll find something to begin aiming towards.

Great advice! I "unfortunately" fell for the 1st myth of building pity on the Zhu Yuan banner for to make pulling for Qingyi or Jane easier. I also was just wanting copies of Nichole and Ben, which I got, but also was not sad to see a second Zhu Yuan. Which you also discussed, about not pulling on banner you're unsure of. Again, a great video.

So, with this in mind I decided to just convert mine to encrypted tapes so that I can be more disciplined to actually pull for the limited banner I like. (also I like seeing it accumulate into 180 for Miyabi guarantee LMAO)

you're exactly right! i go by similar principles where pulling. i mostly ignore the A-ranks being boosted on the event banner because there is no guarantee, and i pull the S-ranks i want. I used to be very stingy, but then i realised that you get more currency by wishing more so you shouldn't be TOO stingy either. I just pull on every banner that 1) i like the character, 2) i like the playstyle, 3) i can see myself building a team with them. if i miss another character because of it, then so be it, they will have a rerun. and copies on S-ranks dont exist for me. even if i like them, i would have more fun trying out a brand new character.

Hold E + press WASD
She has 2 special attacks, one she sits on the briefcase and the other she sits on the floor
input a 360 degree circular movement while charging EX special. Let go of the charge before the sitting animation ends and she'll fall down and lob the orb into the sky. Let the animation end and continue charging to sit and extend the charge even further, resulting in a forward orb shot that flies much faster than normal.
Also gives invincibility frames.
The trick with this one is to start an ex attack, wait for a bit as it is charging, and at the last possible moment spin the joystick 360 or WASD for keyboard and mouse. If you do this right you can damage the energy during the charge up before and after the spin and finally the black hole stays up for a ridiculously long time afterwards. TBH it’s probably not an optimal way to play but it sure as hell is fun to try and pull off in game

I whaled for Ellen Joe because she was my favorite character in the launch window, and then I got lucky getting Lycaon in the standard banner.
I also got Nekomata from the standard banner thus far, so I'll probably throw some pulls at Jane Doe, but if I don't get her on the 50/50, I'll hold until another character I wanna build a squad around comes out.

I built pity during Zhu when I wanted to get more copies of Nicole/Ben to shore up my weaker team builds. Accidentally pulled her around 40 pulls, went broke in regards to Dennies and Upgrading mats, along with having to start picking up Ether Discs readjusting everything to fit her in.
Either way, I got enough incoming poly+pull items to get Jane even off of pity.
issue is that means I know if I have to hard pull her, I won't be able to pull Miyabi, or the S ranks from Calydon, and I want/need to pull on them since I know Lucy/Piper will show up on the banners between the two S ranks that'll be revealed. And considering the value of Lucy's M6 for cheapass play when combined with Corin and PIper, along with the value of Lucy's Wengine in all fields of play. Frigging ay.

The carry over of pity is a really GOOD mechanic, but it makes people's brains shut down for some reason.
Imagine pulling for Ellen and not getting her after 170 pulls, it sucks that you missed out on her (and one of the key reasons people quit gacha games) but it is nice that if you want Zhu Yuan, you have built up that pity for her. But just remember... your pulls are not burning a hole in your pocket, if you're sitting with 180 pulls in your pocket and you don't really want Zhu Yuan but really want Qingyi... you can literally just wait.
It's good that you don't lose out on the pity you built if you fail to get a character, if you're like me, a collector, then pulling every 10 pull on the event banner the moment you get it is what you want to do, that's fine. But if you're really looking to make sure you get specific characters, then just save up your pulls and use them on the banner you want. Ideally they'd move away from the fomo mechanic, but making people feel bad for not getting the characters they want is a big part of their business strategy... even if it is misguided.

Zenless combat style i think makes the idea of a character being usless without mindscape just a unlikely the counter dodge and fast paced combat system makes it feel more like it relies alot on player skill and element type more than indevidual character
If have right element and are good at clicking your swap counter and dodges you likely do fine with any characted
IMO building pity is not good.
Yes you may get a 4 star mind scape but in the long run anyways you are going to replace that 4 star character with their 5 star version.
Simply just save polychromes only for the S ranks you want.

Pity builders are losers who can’t hold off on their gacha pulling addiction . Just SAVE your currency for the characters banner you want . It’s fukn annoying being in groups seeing people moan about this when they should have just saved their currency

A video telling people to pity build is also pretty stupid imo as most times people who try to pity build end up failing and getting the 5 star they don’t want so that effectively means you spending more currency on the banner to get the character you do want as you already lost 50/50 to character you didn’t want

As someone who has played (or actively plays) all of Hoyo's games F2P:
Casual players: You really shouldn't summon on banners you don't want the limited character of. Wait until you want the character on the banner and THEN pull. The flow of summoning resources you have is finite, and you can only get so much before it runs dry. Also, most characters can at the very least function with F2P units, so if another 5 star/S rank comes out the following patch and you DON'T want that character, don't worry about it. (For ZZZ specifically, I've heard the 4 stars/A Ranks are actually really good)
Meta players: Take into consideration whether or not the current limited character compliments the characters you already have. If they do, great, if not, really think about how much value you are going to get from the character. If it's not a game breaking character or won't benefit your account much, then skip and save for a character that will be more useful. Additionally, DPS characters are historically less valuable in comparison to supports due to power creep. Supports are always useful and make your team as a whole do more damage. DPS units tend to get power crept extremely quickly, and therefore are usually less valuable by default. (Not to say you don't need DPS characters, just that you're priority shouldn't be on having the best DPS, since supports are more important.)
Want to add that obviously if you want a character, then go ahead and summon for them. Meta rarely matters in Hoyo's games anyways
As an almost day one player on all recent Hoyo games: FOMO is in your head: the game works without dupes, without premium characters and certainly without that little missable currency you get if you got perfect scores/stars on whatever endgame mode there is.
Just enjoy the characters you happen to get, maybe save up for waifus (don't forget reruns exist and they're earlier/more often than you think!) and just have fun.
I sometimes get the BP for that extra help building characters or if I know I have quests that will make me login daily the 5 bucks for daily currency is good too. You can often save up a lot for when that one hot/cool/sexy/badass character drops and you'll be good.
I'm happy god blessed me with very specific taste and the characters that made me download the game, Corin and Ben were literally handed to me on a silver platter and I had no idea lol????

I ended up pleasantly surprised in a similar situation as you. I sort of wanted Zhu Yuan, but knew I didn't have 100% on her, so I wasn't expecting anything. But I did want to build up Nicole and Ben. Happened to get Zhu on an early S and max out both Ben and Nicole exactly on the mark.

Thanks for that tip with Mindscape because I got C6 Ben Bigger but a C4 Nicole with getting Soldier 11 and Zhu Yaun with having only 12 Master tapes left and I've been tempted to us them because I want a C6 Nicole so badley. But I also want Jane Doe so at least get ready to work on my second squad so I'll hold off getting C6 Nicole and focus on what I have for the time being.
Definitely agree to your point of building pity is a denial to players who can't control themselves. Another point to be take note of is about meta characters/lineups, characters will inevitably get power crept. So being wise on who to pull is a must.
I appreciate the nuanced take on building pity. Gacha games can be a slog going several months without a new favorite S-rank, and most of my mains end up being A-ranks (Noelle and Heizou in Genshin, Qingque in HSR, Ben so far here and possibly Seth soon,) so it really varies by person. I've also yet to be spooked with an early S-rank in years of building pity, so honestly the warnings people give always sound like a pipedream.
Me in hope pulling Nicoles but getting a lot of bears be like:

I made the silly mistake of pulling on zhu yuans weapon banner and committed all they way to 72 pulls where I luckily won the 75/25. Haven’t played a hoyo game since genshin 1.2 and forgot to factor in that all the pulls for her weapon were pulls I could have used for a hero. Glad I managed to get the wengine, zhu yuan, c6 Nicole and Ben. But really hoping I don’t lose the 50/50 on qingyi (although if I do, soldier 11 would be nice). Then I’ll see if I can get lucky and get an early pity before the banner ends. Worst case scenario I can focus down a unit in the future. Maybe 1.2 will have a character I’ll really want. Gonna head over to your over video now, this one was great so I’m sure the next one will be too 🫡
def build pity if you want the a rank characters or w engines that are on the banner. that's the only time i would consider it.
zhu yuan or qingyi are going to add some future value to your account. nicole is a great ether character. i would try to get some of her mindscapes and then make a decision.
it's not building pity, it's pulling 4* characters

This is the exact mindset I went into the qingyi banner with, I wanted to pull to my 50/50 and then just full stop if I lost it. Thankfully I won it, and then I did an extra 10 just because it was super early in the cycle and got extremely lucky with her C1. haven't touched the banner in like 2.5 weeks and I am very ready to pull for Jane after finishing the special episode

As a newish player to Gacha, this really was the kick in the pants I needed to stop having FOMO. I missed Ellen, but got Zhu Yuan + W-Engine, so I should be happy with that.
