    Yonex adds another chapter to the EZONE 98! As with previous generations, this control-oriented stick combines spin-friendly targeting with raw speed. Like the 2015 DR version (a staff favorite), this 2022 update packs above average feel, comfort and stability for a light player's racquet. It also plays deceptively soft and forgiving considering that it has an RA stiffness north of 64. Granted, it lacks the mass-based power and plow-through of its heavier counterparts, but you'll appreciate the quick handling when scrambling on defense, hitting shots on the run or charging the net. For this update, Yonex adds 2G NAMD SPEED to the shaft, resulting in a more powerful response with better ball feedback. Yonex has also retooled the beam construction, adding a thicker, more convex cross section in the shaft (for stability) along with a thinner frame face (for a softer response). Other technologies include Yonex’s time-tested ISOMETRIC head shape, a unique design feature that makes Yonex racquets feel more generous and forgiving than conventionally shaped equivalents. Ultimately, this racquet’s raw speed and scalpel like targeting make it one of the most accessible player’s racquets on the market. The fact that it feels great at contact makes it hard to beat.

    Haha! I did the unthinkable today. I used a TW Ezone 98 demo in a tournament match. It's an absolute beast. You get the control of a 95 with the power of a 100. I'm just amazed at the feel and agree with the ball staying on the strings longer. I know from a physics standpoint that can't be true, but it really helped direct the ball where I wanted it to go.

    Great insights. Chris’s analysis sold it for me. He hit the mark on the pros and cons. Manoeuvrable and controlled making good to play angles from baseline. Perhaps a little light for stability for some more advanced players looking for softer touch and plough through, but can easily season to taste with a little lead tape in the hoop if needed.

    Update: demoed with multis. No shoulder pain. Definitely some more power on the new ezone. Played similar to the old one. Slightly stiffer but more stable. Backhand better on this edition. Great racquet but will stick to my 2019 ezone because of the similarities and has less power. My new racquet set up with the 2019 version has been a god send with control and feel. But give this new version a demo. It’s a great racquet!
    Only did one day of hard hitting with the new ezone 98. I’ve always had shoulder problems but last version of the ezone my shoulder was fine. After a hour I started to feel it in my shoulder with the new ezone. My current set up is a synthetic/poly with lead at the 3 and 9. I know the demo has fully poly and can be a factor. I was wondering if anyone over there felt this as well? There isn’t much difference in the flex rating

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +1

      Hi!
      We haven't experienced any discomfort, but the full bed of polyester compared to your hybrid setup could cause discomfort. Also, your customized racquet is likely 7-10 points higher in swingweight than the 2022 stock specs, which can cause timing issues and mis-hits. All factors combined may attribute to less comfort during play. - Andrew, TW.

    Hey TW! I’m in need of some help. I’m a college player looking to switch to either the ezone 98 2022 or the vcore pro 97 (310) 2021, but I can’t decide which one. I wanna stick with yonex due to their great feel and quality control. Right now I use a vcore 95 2018 with weight at 3 and 9 o’clock, but i’m looking for more forgiveness and spin out of my racquet. With the smaller head and tighter string pattern, the vc95 does wonders for hammering flat shots, and i love the precision and control the racquet provides, but outside of that, it struggles in intense match play; it’s too demanding and unforgiving. Before the vc95, I used a blade v6 16x19. The wilson feel was solid, but the blade just wasn’t head-light enough for me, even with adding weight to the handle. I wanted more control, maneuverability, and whippiness, which explains the switch to the vc95. From here, the logical choice would be to simply move up to the vcore 98 (bigger head = more forgiveness and spin), but for my game, that racquet was too powerful. I like swinging out, generating my own power, and playing aggressive, which is why I needed control. I play both singles and doubles, so I also value maneuverability and stability at net. I didn’t really consider the 2020 ezone 98 because of reviews saying it tended to be a bit of a trampoline, but since this new 2022 version is more control-oriented, it has caught my eye. Both the vcp97 and ezone 98 are 16x19 for spin and have bigger sweetspots than the vc95. Any thoughts/recommendations? I need help deciding

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +2

      Both of those options will allow for a bit more forgiveness, but beyond that the differences between the two racquets will come down to feel and slight differences in power. The VCORE Pro 97 offers a bit more control, and feel for the ball, I think due to the flex and the straight beam (no taper) of the frame. The 16x19 pattern does make for easy spin, and helps with hitting a heavy ball with topspin, while also feeling very precise on slice and touch/feel shots. So it will probably be the easier transition of the two, from the VCORE 95. The EZONE 98 2022, does feel slighlty more controlled than the previous 2020 version, although it will still feel a bit more powerful overall compared to the VCORE Pro 97 (310). It packs a good amount of punch, and pretty easy spin (similar to VCORE Pro 97 for spin), but with the dampening of the frame for comfort, and thicker beam in the hoop, it does feel a bit more muted, so not quite the feel for the ball on those days when things get a little tight. So the reward with the EZONE 98 2022 is a bit easier power, but maybe a little less feel overall. If you have the chance to demo the racquets that would be ideal, but if not, hopefully some of that feedback helps. Troy, TW

      @@tenniswarehouse Thanks for replying! This feedback was very helpful. I appreciate the detail you went in to, always a pleasure hearing from the racquet wiz Troy. One last question: Which of the two racquets do you think hits most similarly to something like a Head Radical MP or Blade V8 16x19? I have shortly hit with those racquets and enjoyed them (although would probably prefer a whippier version of them), so if Yonex has something similar to offer, that would probably be the racquet I go with.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +1

      Glad to try and help. I think compared to the Blade 98, and Radical MP having offering some decent control, and feel, and slightly thinner, or closer to a straight beam, I think the VCORE Pro 97 falls more in line with those, and it has a pretty manageable swingweight for maneuverability. The EZONE 98 also is fast and maneuverable, but not quite the level of control and feel for the ball. The control is a bit better with the EZONE 98 than the VCORE 98, but not quite like the VCORE Pro 97. Troy, TW

    This racket in stock is great but it really needs about 1.5g of led tape added to 12 O' clock position to bump up the swing weight for the serve and plough through.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, I agree some added swingweight really helps with the plow and depth of shot. Although some might want a really whippy maneuverable feel, but I'm looking forward to the release of a Tour version, and a 98+. Troy, TW

      Hi!
      If the VCore 98 seems a bit much, I recommend trying the EZONE 100 (more power), or an EZONE 98L/100L (easier to swing and more power).
      I definitely would recommend giving those options a demo to see which works best for you! -Andrew, TW

      This racquet does swing or maneuver fairly easily for a 305 gram frame (300 grams with the EZONE 100), and the sweet-spot feels a bit bigger for me compared to the VCORE 98. So I would think it could definitely be worth a try. However it is more control oriented compared the EZONE 100, so maybe not as easy to generate the power compared to the 100. What exactly did you feel, that made the VCORE 98 a bit too much? Was it the weight/maneuverability, or lacking of power? And do which generation of the VCORE 98 it was? The current version is mostly red with the little pop of blue color on it. Troy, TW

    Hi TW, I wonder how does this 7th gen compare to the ezone Xi 98 that I had before? In comparison my current 6th gen ezone 98 which definitely is a lot more plush yet the string bed always brings about this kind of "springy" feel on contact, which is never the kind of solid contact as how the Xi 98 feels like. Obviously the Xi 98 has its drawbacks for some as being too harsh and "metal pole" like especially on off centre hits, however the solid feel on contact is really second to none and makes one feel more connected to how the ball contact the string bed. The 6th gen is a good racquet but it never really offers the kind of solid feel in comparing to the Xi and makes me wonder if this latest iteration will offer a more solid contact experience. While the Xi is quite a few generations ago hopefully some of you that played the Xi gen can chip in on this, many thanks.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +1

      The new model has a slightly different head shape and beam thickness. The differences are subtle. The 2022 is 0.5mm thicker on the beam which makes it have a slightly more crisp feel, while the 2020 EZONE plays similar with a slightly softer feel. Unless you've hit both extensively and prefer the new EZONE, I'm sure either model will work great for your game. If you're specific on slight variances in feel, we offer both racquets for demo. Yes, pretty close specs overall. I think it will mostly come down to feel for the difference of the two, as the TFight 300 RS has a closer to a straight beam, and the EZONE 98 has a taper where it thins out quite a lot in the throat. Even though we found this version of the EZONE 98 to feel a bit more controlled than the last, I still find that it packs a little more punch than the TFight 300 RS, and a little more control or precise feel from the TFight 300 RS, or at least that is the feeling off of the racquet. In which dimension is the beam thicker? The Yonex site mentions the thicker beam but then ha a graphic saying "thinner." Is this more of a widebody than before?

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +3

      So when we measure the beam width, we use calipers, and measure the cross-section. So basically, if you were to look at the face of the racquet, seeing the string-bed, then turn the racquet sideways, so you essentially cannot see the string any more. We measure that width of the frame from that view, at the very tip, side of hoop (3 or 9 o'clock), and at the throat of the racquet. So it did widen slightly in that direction (by 0.5mm), but a bit thinner in the face direction, when looking at the string-bed head on. So almost as if the beam was compressed just a bit. Hope that helps, Troy TW

Im potentially switching because i feel like the tfight is still a bit too stiff for me (causing shoulder issues) Which do you think has better power and control, but still relatively shoulder or arm friendly? or do you recommend i wait for the clash v2?

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +2

      I think of the two Yonex 98's you will find a bit more comfort, or plush feel from the EZONE 98 2022, and a bit better blend of control/power. I know that the EZONE is advertised for its power, but I find that when going for a big groundstroke, and flattening out the ball, I get a little more connection to the ball and control. The VCORE 98 has a nice feel, and very easy topspin and launch angle, but I think because the string spacing is pretty open it is a little harder to control on flatter strokes. Troy, TW

    How is ezone 98 compared to boom pro? I was looking for a large sweet spot 98 racket. Boom pro with the tear drop shape is intriguing. Now the ezone 98 also joins the market and it looks so good. I’m not sure which to choose.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +1

      I think it likely comes down to weight, and feel, when deciding between the two. We found this EZONE 98 to swing very fast and maneuverable, but maybe lacks some plow through, and feel that the Boom Pro offers. The Boom Pro feels a bit more solid, slightly more weight and swingweight, and a bit more feel from the thinner beam in the hoop. The sweet-spot is pretty forgiving on both racquets. So maybe it will come down to maneuverability, and whether you prefer a bit heavier racquet or not. Troy, TW

      A bit more precision from the 98 headsize on this EZONE 98 2022, and slightly faster feel, although weight/swingweight are pretty close between the two. The Textreme Tour 100 (310) is a bit more forgiving with the headsize, and maybe just a bit easier access to power, although power levels are pretty close. Pretty good comfort with both, but a bit more dampened feel with the EZONE 98 (2022), and a bit crisper feel with the Tour 100 (310). Troy, TW

      For the control, and stability we would likely go with the EZONE 98. Not sure if you have the ability to try the racquets, or demo, but maybe also consider the VCORE 98 as well. Another fun one to play with is the Babolat Pure Aero VS, although the feel on that one is a bit firmer, not quite as comfortable as the Yonex's. Troy, TW

      That really comes down to personal preference. Not significant difference in comfort, although I will say that the 100 seems to be getting a lot of good feedback with this update, even from those who don't always play 100 headsizes. Question for Troy. When I bought my DR 98 years ago the yonex grips were running large and my 1/4 felt like a 3/8. I demoed the 2022 Ezone 98 in a 1/4 and it felt really small. Are the grips now back to true size?

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, pretty much all of our testers agree that it feels a bit more plush compared to the previous version, closer to the DR98, but maybe not quite as soft. It's hard to say for certain as the DR98 that we have to hit with is pretty worn down, so likely feeling even more flexible and dead compared to when it was fresh out of the factory. Yes, the stiffness did change by a point compared to the 2020 model, but sometimes one point is hard to tell the difference, or maybe negligible. Sometimes when we spec racquets, you can flip the racquet over, from one side to the other, and get a slightly different reading for the number. Troy, TW

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому

      The new 2022 EZONE 98 swings pretty fast for a 305 gram frame, I would say a bit quicker to maneuver than the TF40 305 16x19. The 2022 EZONE 98 also provides a bit easier power, even though it does feel slightly more controlled than its predecessor. The TF40 305 16x19 gives a bit more control, slightly more stable feel, and I can feel the ball a bit more with it compare to the EZONE 98. I would say the Boom Pro feels relatively stable, somewhat like the TF40 315, but also packs a bit more power or feels a bit more lively somewhat like the EZONE 98 2022. The feel for me was a bit more muted or dampened with the Boom Pro compared to the TF40, but maybe a bit more feel or feedback than the EZONE 98. Hope that helps, Troy TW

    • @tenniswarehouse

      @bill fot,
      Significant? No. I wouldn't say there is a huge difference between the 100 and 98. But we do find the 98 to have a bit more control and is just a tad heavier and a little more feel and flexibility. Both performed well against big hitters and are a bit more explosive. Despite that lower swingweight, we found them to still offer good plow and easy depth. And in the mean time can throw some customization on to get it further dialed in if we are lacking plow, or grab the EZONE 98 Tour from the previous generation! :)

      This update feels slightly more controlled, or a bit less lively than the last version, so maybe a bit closer in that sense to the current EZONE 98 Tour. However the weight and plow through feels more significant with the 98 Tour, whereas this EZONE 98 feels rather fast and maneuverable in comparison. Troy, TW

    I switched from a Head Prestige MP 98, 20x18 to a Wilson Ultra Tour 98 20x18 but found less spin so want to recapture that again. Currently looking at this Yonex and a Head Extreme Tour. Any words of wisdom TW? I like to really rip the ball on my FH for spin and have a big serve but I hate losing control with my high swing speed so string tight and don't want an overpowered racquet. Definitely miss the spin especially from my kick and slice serves that my Prestige MP gave me over the Ultra Tour. Which of those 2 racquets would suit me better?

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  3 місяці тому +1

      A little easier to maneuver with this racquet compared to Blade 98 v9, and this EZONE 98 also provides easier access to power. Blade 98 v9 gives a bit more control and feel. Troy, TW

    A bit thicker beam but more control? Interesting!

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +3

      I think what our testers are feeling is more control coming from perhaps better torsional stability from the thicker beams as the RA is only one point off on average so the thicker beam is not making the racquet stiffer for more power. I found better power from the previous version. With this one I had better control and had to swing faster to match the pace/depth I got from the previous version. Hope that helps explain the differences. Cheers, Chris, TW.

      @@tenniswarehouse So have they increased the twist weight if you're saying it has better torsional stability? If that's the case, it must have an even stiffer hoop than the outgoing version which is total deal breaker for me as well as my elbow.

    Ezone98 more powerful or more control than the VCorePro100 ?

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +1

      In general, the EZONE line provides easier power than the VCORE Pro line. So if you were to compare the EZONE 100 to VCORE Pro 100, the EZONE has easier power. The EZONE 98 when compared to the VCORE Pro 100, the power level is pretty close, but maybe a bit more energy return from the EZONE 98, or a bit livelier feel to it. Troy, TW

      The VcorePro100 is more forgiven because 100 inch ?
      Or the Ezone98 more forgivven because bigger beam 25cm higher ?
      I am hesiting between those 2 models for my game

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому

      What I meant by forgiving was sweet-spot size, or overall surface area for striking the ball, so in that case maybe a bit more with the VCORE Pro 100. The main differences come down to the feel when contacting the ball, and is something that you can't really experience until you hit with the racquets or test them out. Troy, TW

    Hi. I play with the blade 98 v7, could you compare this two especially in terms of feel, ball Pocketing, spin and forgiveness ?

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому +1

      Since you asked about comparing spin, I would assume you are using the Blade 98 (16x19) v7? This one feels a bit more powerful, slightly firmer, but still pretty comfortable. Spin is pretty similar between the two, maybe a bit easier with this EZONE 98, and sweet-spot is comparable, but maybe a bit bigger on this one. The Blade 98 16x19 v7 has slightly more comfort, and a bit more feel for the ball with its thinner, and flat beam in the hoop of the racquet. It also has a bit more plow and swingweight, whereas this EZONE 98 maneuvers a bit quicker. Troy, TW

      @mosse185,
      There are some other options in this family of racquets that might be better suited for someone just getting the mechanics down -- check out the EZONE 98L for a lighter version of this racquet that would be a good first place to start and with time, the player can transition into the heavier EZONE 98! Hope that helps!

    Hello TW. Looking to explore a change from 3+ year use of VCore 98 305 to 7th Generation EZone 98 305. How would you describe any significant differences and/or similarities between the two rackets for a 11/12 UTR player? What to look for if considering a change from VCore to EZone? Thank you.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  2 роки тому

      The transition between the two racquets should be somewhat easy, as they aren't hugely different in specs, although not sure if you customize them up anyways. That said, I have quite a bit experience going back and forth between the two racquets, but in the extended versions, so EZONE 98+ and VCORE 98+. I notice a slight difference in spin and launch angle, with the spacing of the strings on the VCORE 98 being a bit more spaced apart giving a bit easier access to spin, and a little easier lift or launch angle from the baseline. The EZONE 98 is also decently spin friendly, but the spacing of the strings seems to be just a bit closer, which for me gave me a little more confidence when needing to flatten out my shots, and a little more connection to the ball when going for the slice. Also, just a slight difference when playing them in stock form, when it came to stability, I find the EZONE 98 to feel a bit more stable on volleys, especially if I contact slightly outside the sweet-spot. The VCORE 98 feels nice and has good pop when volleying and hitting right in the sweet-spot, but the power and feel drops off quite a bit if I miss the sweet-spot slightly. Hope that helps somewhat, Troy TW

      We noticed a slightly more flexible feel, and a bit more control coming from the Blade 98 16x19 v8. This EZONE 98 2022 is a bit stiffer, but still pretty comfortable from the dampening technologies, and although we found it a bit more controlled than the 2020 version, it packs a bit easier power than the Blade 98 16x19 v8. Nope. DR has more "feel", is heavier (310g), is thinner (at least its throat) and has a lower RA.
      DR98 seems to remain an "unicorn", just like that AeroPro Drive from 2004.
