Sat here, enjoying the vid, knitting on my socks and thinking how fab the restoration will be, when *SplAsH* your dog goes mental in that muddy puddle 🤣 What a wee star 🤭
It's great to see that they have finally started some work, but I can't believe it has got into that state when you look at the before/after shots at the beginning, there must have been absolutely no maintenance on that stretch at all. Can you imagine how brilliant it will be when they get all the way to Norwood Tunnel, sadly I don't think I'll be around to see it. Fantastic to see Gordo enjoying the water, he and Theo would get on like a house on fire, he loves his water too!!!!!
Cheers Seamus. Hopefully the work will crack on now once this next section is completed. It is indeed a shame about that section and the state it has been allowed to get in.
Thank you paul . I cud watch this on big screen because its my birthday then I at to watch it again because my offspring saw the dog was in it LOL. Cheers 🍻 again 👍
Excellent work. Like others I can’t believe how quickly it fell into disrepair. Looks like the canal trust has done a great job on revealing the other part too. I feel a walk coming on to re-explore this and the Brindley loops. Gordo is certainly energetic lol
Another good video. Im hoping that the canal restoration picks up speed soon as once the ends are linked together and it becomes navigable again, it will surely keep it clean and in good order.
I can’t understand how a restored canal that was finished in 2010 has suddenly gone back to disused and a total mess. Are they going to reopen Norwood Tunnel? That would be fantastic!
As far as I know the tunnel is beyond repair. The plan was to take the canal over the top rather than the tunnel via a series of locks. Though that seems a long time away and a lot of miles to recover. It does seem a shame that this "new" section is in ruins again. Hopefully once it's connected to the rest of the canal it will survive better.
I'm never really certain what's going off over the TPT, it's the old station site I think isn't it, or at least goods yard... I reckon they'd previously just heaped a lot of earth up and gradually they are clearing it as the earth used to be nearly as high as the power lines. I believe there's still traces of the original canal path in the lower clinker wood which I've been wanting to check out for a while, probably not when they are working on that site though. I recall a few years ago when there was a railway buffer or something on the site before they mounded all the earth up.
Yeah old goods shed. I remember a few years ago there was still a building by the tpt on that section. And a water pump thing. Just a big digger world😄
When it was previously restored it wasn’t re lined properly letting the water drain away….plus there were no means of replenishing the canal with water….hence that’s what we have now….and smelly too….the brickwork what narrows is called miners crossing….it was restored by CCT a few years ago and re buried ready for a bridge and re watering the canal…..the other bit is clinkers wood overspill takes excessive water away from the canal back into the River Rother….it’s recently been rodded out by CCT
Have you looked on the “Chesterfield Canal Partnership” website…..click on Restoration on the top bar That’s got all the various sections of the Canal Restoration, explaining what’s in the pipeline. Although this site hasn’t been updated for a while it still gives you an idea of what’s happening….Hope this helps……Mick H
Cheers Mick. I don't remember seeing that site before 👍. I'd been using the CCT site as my main source, but I'll take a good look at the partnership site.
My parents lived in one of the new houses that backed onto the canal and my farther always said he would be dead and buried before it was ever finished and he was correct. Such a shame but it seems to be a theme with projects like this. All the best intentions but always seem to fail to deliver. Also I’ve heard a rumour that where it connects at Stavley is under review as they are looking at a new road which would not make it possible.
Hi Tony. Yeah very slow progross. I suppose money must be harder to come by at the moment too. Hopefully they'll get some bit done soon. It's a shame to see the bit around Renishaw in the state it's in today. I believe the new road near Staveley will cause the canal to diverted, but I undertstand that is factored in to the cost of the road.

😄 Good old Gordo stealing the show as usual
Worth a watch just for the happy muddy dog!!! Sad to see the canal section overgrown but fingers crossed for progress!
Thanks Ninja. He does love the mud.

Take some muddy boots😄.
Brindley Loops was a right mess last week 👍
Isn't it exciting! Can't wait for the work to progress... dog is clearly aiming for star status... :)
Upstaged by the dog 😄.
I can't wait to see the work progress.

Thanks Neil. I hope so too.
Good work getting done will be good when it's finished. Will they keep it navigable then.Your dog has a real liking for water doesn't he?
😄 he sure does. And mud. And anything that makes him dirty.
I'm looking forward to seeing the progress on the "new" section.

Thanks Michael. Great info.
I'd heard of Miners Crossing. I didn't realise that was what it is was. 👍

@@WobblyRunner the Trust are currently having the Partnership site updated and hopefully will be sorted and up dated by Autumn
Sorry not the Trust the partnership are updating the site

It sure is. Hopefully it's best days are yet to come.
You will have to keep updating…..let the people see what’s happening more than the trust does
Will do Michael. 👍🙂
