Not relevant but i want to thank you for posting at the same time my girlfriend gets off work. Every time I see a notification from you I immediately go text her.
The thing is, if you pay attention to the Indie scene, you 100% knew about Crow Country and Yellow Taxi. Theyre big in the indie scene but have a very short reach
Nine Sols so far is one of my favorite games this year. The music and art is fantastic, the story is decently enjoyable...but the gameplay is where it's all at. A beautiful mix of Sekiros parry based combat system, and hollow knights exploration and upgrade system. Can't recommend it enough. I hope Coney plays it since he loved Sekiro so much
Animal Well is weird. Its exploration and puzzle solving are great to sink your teeth into if you enjoy that kind of thing, but there really is such an insidious transition between its core gameplay and meta, ARG adjacent tricks. That there’s no delineation between difficult platforming challenges and having to hold your phone up to the TV and scan a barcode hidden in the world’s decoration, each for the same tier of secret, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t think that opaque style of design is fun in a metroidvania, where the gradual unveiling of secrets is the core appeal.
Despite not agreeing with a lot of your opinions, and the shame of you sort of hating on my favorite series (Zelda lol), I can’t be mad. You’re mad funny and entertaining, so I like you and your content anyway. You’re also a great commentator. Don’t know how you do it, but you do. Just wanted to give you those props.
i got roboquest when it came back as my friend and i love games like risk of rain and gunfire reborn and it matches the quality of games like that in all aspects. a lot of fun and a lot of charm
For once i agree with a coney take. I liked animal well a lot until i realized i was i too stupid to fully uncover all the secrets by myself. Great game but not one i will 100% complete
Personally I like the presentation of Bastion more than i like playing it. I think it was good for its time but I felt it was just an ok action game that had some uneven pacing in terms of gameplay and story reveals. I think transistor is much better imo.
Elden Ring DLC go yooooooooooooop Coney was so unsure on how to make this image lol He wanted to be based on his own feelings, but then got convinced multiple times by chat to go with like steamchart stats and what not to determine where it gets placed.
Balatro sold over 1 million units across all platforms, this man is using steam charts and thinking it's an accurate reading of a player base.... (I'm not mad tho)
Man Coney was actually based af in this one. I felt like I was in the minority with Hades 2 and Animal Well. I definitely fully agree with the AW take, I hate that you can't get an ending without either being in the ARG or looking up at least one solution about the mural.
Shipwrecked 64 is an absolute indie darling that I would go out of my way to say is one of the best horror experiences of all time I'd also put In Stars And Time in there, but it came out November of last year and I that I never found out about it sooner
For some reason I thought Crow country was a huge game. I guess not, but that, children of the sun and balatro real good I love them. Kinda get why you wouldn't go back to some but I really liked them. That's kinda like the summer games combo. Palworld fucking sheep food personally but okay I understand why you placed it there. Oh yeah dragon dogma 2 also came out but I forgot about it. I just thought it should be mentioned but I didn't play it. Oh shit almost forgot about Cryptmaster that's also a niche good game.
MY(!) 2024 video game list, so far. For any that care and want a grab-bag of recommends. 1. 1000xRESIST 2. ANIMAL WELL 3. Another Crab's Treasure 4. INDIKA 5. Yellow Taxi Goes Wroom 6. Plushie from the Sky 7. Children of the Sun 8. Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain 9. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth 10. 20 Small Mazes 11. Minishoot' Adventures 12. Penny's Big Breakaway 13. Turnip Boy Robs a Bank 14. Underminer 15. Fractured Horizon 16. Boomeroad 17. Sputnika Game 18. Portal: Rvolution 19. MiceGard 20. Froggo's Adventure: Verdant Venture 21. Coyote: An Old West Vignette 22. Nightmare Kart
It's kind of funny, because the Elden Ring DLC isn't THAT good. The problem is that the balance and stuff is like Elden Ring 1.0, but everyone is going into it expecting something better then the original game. Unfortunately, that isn't true. While the boss design is wicked cool, and there's cool weapons and the map looks good, that's just what to expect from Fromsoft. I think it's a fantastic dlc, and it branches off of the main story in a really good way, but it's too hard or too easy; there isn't a great balance. Give it a month of feedback and a patch or two, and the gameplay will already be SO much better. Besides that, it's just new but slightly worse (?) Elden Ring. It isn't glitchy, it's just not balanced yet - and that's okay! (I will that they improved the ability to find all the remembrance bosses, as well as adding more and better field bosses.
Palworld is like Avatar for gamers. Who the fuck is playing this, it's TECHNICALLY a better version of something dogshit, and how did it make so much money
I don't know if it's because I've never played CoD and my only experience with arcade shooters is Krunker, but I felt like XDefiant was very boring. I just couldn't get into it. I wished there was some sort of movement shooter-y angle or I could use the classes in a different way or... something?
The all-time Steam peak on Pyre being 3995 is legitimately a tragedy. It's the worst Supergiant game, but it's still an absolute banger, and the most interesting game they did.
Dark Souls is a top 5 game of all time for me but hearing Coney try to justify why Animal Well isn't as good for requiring community help while Dark Souls is fine for it was very funny. Dark Souls is borderline unplayable if you don't have at least SOME info going in, and the experience is vastly improved on top of that if you actively seek out even just basic help/guidance.
I didn’t even get past the youtube ad and I know there’s guaranteed to be some hideously foul take. maybe if in lucky one of the takes people call contrarian will be one I can see the light of Edit: guys I was wrong the mostly reasonable takes or at least an argument that makes sense this time around. The only things for me are that I thought Hades II, Balatro, and Animal Well slightly further right and slightly more towards internet darlings, although I do understand Coney’s points these games are pretty popular and are talked about, but I think having a large influencer backing a game’s publication or a lot of passionately vocal people on the internet talking about them don’t inherently make them more mainstream (it can and did push it towards that, but I feel like these types of games are more niche). and I’ve seen no one in real life talk about them in real life outside of my personal circles, or they’re designed in ways which might be less enjoyable to a few amount of people, but more towards being a well made niche game. For Hades II specifically, this is a pretty decently popular game, and Supergiant isn’t really an indie developer anymore and fits more into being a half-indie or AA dev, but it still feels like they’re appeal is with their audience with may be large, but feels like a smaller and more devoted version of what devolver has (which is a publisher and not a dev I know) roguelikes and metroidvainias are much bigger now than they were before and are considered to be, and these games are pretty widely popular, but mostly in their niche, and they don’t feel like the type of mainstream game that’s made for everyone and play more towards the groups that’ll gravitate towards them Also you could make an argument for Final Fantasy being less mainstream. Although it’s iconic, and it has one of the greatest legacies in gaming, being an older game and’s not having ‘today’s visuals’ brings it further away from mainstream in the modern environment
It's a hell of a time when something leaves just NO impact after you stop playing even if you did enjoy your time. A lot of childhood games are like that, a comfortable 7/10 that simply does not take root in your mind whatsoever.
I disagree with everything Coney said in this entire video
They're so real for this
True
Just a normal Coney video then!
i haven't even watched the video yet but same!!! 🙏

More people need to play Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom, genuinely a phenomenal game that deserves more recognition
he was not kidding, that yellow taxi game is insanely fun
It looks fun! Thanks Coney!
Really was, best game I've played in the past year for me if not longer
It feels like a 3D Celeste in spirit, the momentum is delicious
This is Pre-monkeball and it shows

Multiversus was so popular i heard my non gamer sports friends that play fortnite and EA SPORTS games only talk about it. honestly Insane to me
It hits that same junk food spot that valorant does.
Yo its me one of the other 200 people who played yellow taxi goes vroom, that games is awesome.
Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom being game of the year is the correct opinion. THERE ARE DOZENS OF US, CONEY!
Tried the taxi game today, its SO GOOD
The thing is, if you pay attention to the Indie scene, you 100% knew about Crow Country and Yellow Taxi. Theyre big in the indie scene but have a very short reach

Thank you very much for showing that taxi game, had 0 clue of its existence. Looks dope!

Idk if they still do this but MultiVersus should not have been marketed as a Doubles game. Completely ignored it for that reason

Bastion is so good. Maybe my 2nd favorite SuperGiant game behind Hades. The narrator is so good for it.
Personally I like the presentation of Bastion more than i like playing it. I think it was good for its time but I felt it was just an ok action game that had some uneven pacing in terms of gameplay and story reveals. I think transistor is much better imo.

Wasn't he using his own feelings for the quality axis and steamcharts for the niche/mainstream axis?

Interesting Coney doesn't like the two super giant games where you play as women. Not beating any allegations I see
